Fall Into You by Roni Loren
Contemporary Romance –Dec 31st, 2012
4 stars
Fall Into You is the latest in the author’s Loving on the Edge novels. It features strong BDSM and a ménage scene.
Grant Waters is ex-military and has finally ‘settled down.’ He owns a local vineyard selling wine but has an ultra secret and profitable side business catering to those who enjoy BDSM. As a sexual dominant he tastes are ‘refined’ and he has his pick of beautiful woman would love to be his submissive. However, Grant finds himself strangely bored. That is until he meets the provocative and mouthy Charli Beaumonde.
Charli is driven and she wants the newest position on the station she works at. And she knows her latest story will catapult her there. But the people she is investigating are high rollers and not used to someone getting in their way. Driving back home at night she finds herself followed and pushed off the road. She is injured and finds herself rescued by a sexy stranger named Grant. Both feel an instant and electric attraction. The trouble is that Grant knows Charli is ‘vanilla’ and discovers she happens to the sister of a very protective brother who is a good friend. So hands off! But when Grant offers to let her stay at his place for protection their mutual attraction gets in the way. When Charli stumbles into an area of the vineyard that teaches women to be submissives she is intrigued. And Grant finds he doesn’t want anyone else showing her the ‘ropes.’ Soon these two are pushing each others limits and finding that what they feel goes beyond just sex.
Edgy and dark. Those who aren’t into vanilla sex will find this book a thrill. Grant is a ‘professional’ and indoctrinates Charli into some kinky and hot sex which includes bondage, spanking and voyeurism. But he finds himself strangely possessive of Charli. Grant’s sensual side is out in the open but he never lets himself feel real emotion with any on his sub until Charli. Since his wife and unborn child died Grant has merely been living. Charli’s brash and exuberant vitality kick him in the pants and make him look outside of his shell. On the other hand, Grant introduces a tomboy who is unsure about her femininity how to let go. I enjoyed reading Charli surrender to her sensual side and understand how sexy she really is! As both are conflicted by these new and intense feeling they form an uneasy relationship, one that both know is short term. Both want more but are afraid to reach for it more until Charli’s investigation hits a sore spot and puts her in danger.
Fast-paced and super hot, this book is not for the vanilla reader.

Weekend Required by Sydney Landon
Contemporary Romance –Dec. 31st, 2012

Weekend Required is a surprisingly fresh and warm hearted romance that I couldn’t stop reading!
Claire Walters is the personal assistant to the powerful, rich and handsome Jason Danvers. But one job is not enough to when her mother’s Alzheimer’s makes paying bills a struggle. So Claire finds herself taking a second job as a party entertainer/worker. While she does wear more sexy clothes Claire does not do any hankie panky with the customers! But a problem arises when her boss asks her to work a weekend. A weekend that conflicts with her ‘side’ job! Claire must do some fast thinking. When she discovers she won’t be far from the location of her second job and her boss doesn’t need her for the evening she is relieved. Only to find that her boss is part of the party and looking at her in an entirely new way! Soon Jason wants her to work all her weekends. But Claire needs her second job. What will she do?
This was an emotional story as Claire’s poor mother is slowly loosing her memory and often can’t even remember Claire’s name. Claire is struggling to make ends meet but she is proud of doing it on her own. She doesn’t want her boss giving her ‘hand outs’ now that he has discovered out about her bills, nor does she want to feel obligated to him for helping her. Claire’s father was abusive and controlling and Claire likes her independence and is afraid of someone else trying to ‘take over’ her life. The problem is Jason is finding he loves the new, sexy Claire and he wants to help her. I loved Claire’s character. Sweet, kind and hard-working, you really, really want her to find happiness. The sections about her mother are difficult to read and I found myself getting a bit teary-eyed. I also liked how Claire and Jason came to a mutual understanding and made an effort to change their views and behaviors to compromise with each other. I really felt theirs could be a relationship that would last.
A deserving heroine finds a knight in shinning armor, if only she would let him rescue her!

Sealed with a Curse by Cecy Robson
Paranormal Romance – Dec. 31st, 2012
4 stars
Four sisters cursed with magic struggle to find love in Lake Tahoe while staying away from the dangerous supernatural world. Sealed with a Curse is the first in the Wird Girls series and what a sassy way to start!
This book begins with the four Wird sisters being exposed -their unusual powers revealed after hiding them for protection. They have been brought to the vampire court after being accused of killing a vampire. When it is discovered that the vampire they killed was suffering from blood ust the vampire that accused (Misha) them wants Celia to help find him out who is infecting his vampire family. Celia and her sister are reluctant to aid him but when Celia finds the damage on innocents from more infected vampire she decides to aid him. Celia is a powerful tiger shifter and as such is afraid of very little. But when she stumbles on a killing and is found with the dead humans, the local werewolf pack thinks she might be responsible. (For werewolves are the supposed protectors of the paranormal world.) Soon Celia finds herself confronted and mightily attracted to the local alpha, Aric. But Aric is a pureblood and his pack is prejudiced against outsiders.
This book is originally, feisty and full of life. All the sisters are fun to read whether they are squabbling or supporting each other. You know they will get through things in the end. Celia is the self-proclaimed leader, she feels she must take care of her other sisters. As a strong and dominant tiger shifter she has never felt particularly helpless. While her other sisters seem to find love and boyfriends Celia has never had anyone and felt a bit like the ugly duckling. But the truth is that Celia is so strong she needs a man who can match her strength and she thinks she has found in the surprisingly protective were Aric. Unfortunately, his pack does not agree. I really found myself getting into this story because all of the characters are so fascinating. Each of the sisters have very unique skills that have some ‘interesting’ applications especially in a fight. Plus I felt that they were a real family and genuinely cared for each other. Other books which often makes family members have hate each other and there is all this over saturated angst. It was refreshing to read about a loving if dysfunctional family. The two male leads Misha and Aric add to the story but the author cleverly only adds enough to get the reader’s curiosity. Which is good since the next book is a continuation of Celia’s story. That being said, I only wish the author had had more content with Aric it almost felt this one was a bit of a teaser for the next.
If you love the fun-loving, magic wielding, kick- a## sisters who care for each other and a dash of romance then this paranormal book will definitely grab your attention!

Shades of Gray continues the wildly popular KGI suspense series. KGI is a group of specially trained individuals. The have money, resources and team loyalty that gives the enviable ability to get the job done when the government can’t.
In this book, one of the KGI teams, lead by the stoic and enigmatic Steele are set on a new mission. They are to find the men responsible for a ring of child prostitution. Their only female member, P.J. is sent to smooze with the suspects and try to find answers. Unfortunately, the mission goes wrong when she is drugged and abducted, then brutally raped. Her team finally find her but P.J. has been ‘damaged.’ Instead of trying to heal, the first thing when P.J. does is plan her revenge. But the KGI group has ethics and P.J. wants and eye for an eye. So she resigns and sets to take her vengeance solo. When the group realizes that P.J. has put herself in terrible danger they set to find her and barely rescue her again. And the offer to help her in her vendetta against the men who abused her. But one of the members on the team, Cole is already in love with P.J. and he will support her in anyway he can.
I loved this book! P.J. is super strong and independent. But this also insulates her from finding an emotional and satisfying love. She and Cole have had some steamy sex before her kidnapping. But it is only after, when Cole is there to support her and she must come to face with her insecurities that they find a true and lasting love. I liked that Cole was tough but he did not push P.J.. He let her be her own person and she finally was able to let down her guard and trust him and her team. P.J. seemed rather a lonely character and while she was respected and cared for by her teammates she never let herself care for them for fear they would see her as too girly. I could sympathize with P.J. She felt she had to work harder and prove herself since she was the only female on the team. When she finally lets herself open up, then she realizes what a wealth of friends and new friends she actually had. Very satisfying read my new favorite in the KGI series!
This book also has an added novella including the continuing romance between Ethan and his wife Rachel. Their marriage was on the rocks and then Rachel disappeared. Ethan blamed himself but now they have a second chance. It was interesting to read how Rachel becomes more independent and is living her own life. In this novella, I could really feel the love between them and the hope as Rachel discovers she is pregnant with twins. This was a touching return to the KGI series that added great depth that I truly enjoyed reading it. Thank you Maya Banks!

Annabelle Elder’s life as an antiques dealer has finally proved successful. Hiding from the notoriety of her past, she is content. But she wants to have a little excitement. So she has a mini make-over and goes out to a swanky party with her best friend Kate. There she meets the ultra attractive and wealthy hotel owner Jared Golden. Jared loves a good party, cold champagne and a hot woman. But he is bored of the same old until a sexy Annabelle stroll in. He doesn’t know why she totally turns him on. And she is wearing a citrine pendant that looks nearly like the one his grand mother lost. Soon they are all over each other and Jared wants more but he knows he is not a relationship type of guy. Also the familiar brooch bothers him, could it be the one his grandmother lost? The legend says that the lost jewelry brings soul mates together – not that he believes it. When Annabelle discovers Jared he may only want the pin and not her, she feels used and gives it to him. But Jared still is haunted by Annabelle and returns to visit her at her antiques store. But something about her antiques piques his curiosity and he has her investigated. Jared soon discovers Annabelle is more important to him than he is comfortable admitting but he may have ruin any chances they might have for love with his mistrust.
This was a steamy romance. Annabelle and Jared waste no time getting hot and heavy and soon there is a ménage scene! Jared is bitter from his parents destructive marriage and feels his is like his philandering father except he won’t lie about his sexual appetites, marry a woman and then cheat on her. But Annabelle brings feeling he comes unprepared for. She isn’t his girlfriend but he wants her more and more. Determined to investigate her he discover that Annabelle is honest and sweet as she appears. But can Jared let go of his bitterness? Annabelle is a wonderful heroine. She had a difficult life when her parents were killed. She just wants to run her business and finally let loose. Finding Jared really awakened her to her wilder side but she doesn’t like how intrusive he is. I felt bad for her because she really enjoys his company but is not sure if he wants her for the brooch that he considers his grandmother’s or the antiques he likes at her store. Annabelle understandably wants to be wanted for herself. The both care for each other but struggle to see if what they have is more than good sex. While the sexual scenes were steamy the author also dives into each character. This gave the book surprising depth. I also liked the aspect of the lost jewels and how they are supposed to bring lovers together. This is especially interesting since Annabelle’s best friend Kate found a ring that fits the description of the of in the lost jewels at the end and I hope that means she and Jared Tyler will be the next book! (Since Tyler fiancée died of cancer he is heartbroken and I would love to read that sorry.)
Scorching scenes and characters you can really care for make this a fabulously sexy read!

4 stars
A bit unrealistic but scorching hot this book explores how two opposites fire a blaze between them. This book is part of the author’s HOT COPS novels. It can be easily read by itself but does feature prior characters.
April Pediston is beautiful lawyer who thinks of everyone else except herself. After the death of her parents in an accident she has felt she has had to shoulder the care and upbringing of her nice but demanding two sisters. Exhausted at work and personally she doesn’t have ‘me’ time. But all that changes in a chance encounter at a sleazy Café where she meets an old client. For when the client’s abusive husband doesn’t like April a sexy undercover cop comes to her rescue and take a smoldering kiss as his reward. And uptight April finds she can’t get enough! Soon Rogan is able persuade April to meet him again and introduces her to the kinkier side of sex. Where he is the dominant and the normally responsible attorney finds she loves surrendering to his passion!
Although not my favorite in the series this book still rocks. April is a heroine everyone can relate to. She has no time for herself and unfortunately puts herself after her family and work. But when she meets Rogan his undeniable sexual appeal has her wanting more. And this normally conservative girl doesn’t mind exploring the steamier side of sex. Soon Rogan is becoming an obsession and April finds that she is saying, “No” to her relatives and taking out time for herself! Rogan soon finds that sweet April is very addictive and he finds himself even more dominate in bed than he thought. Although they appear opposites they both need each other. There are many sexy scenes between the two main characters that are sizzling hot. My only issue is that I felt their relationship was very fast and didn’t seem as developed as the prior books in the series.

The Garden Intrigue by Lauren Willig
Historical Romance –Dec 31st, 2012
4 stars
This light romance is lively and has uncommon character development as two main characters who at first dislike each other find a deep, abiding love.
Agent Augustus Whittlesby pretends to be a poet. He disguises secret messages in his terrible prose which are sent to England. While working uncover in Napoleon’s court he engages the friendship of a flighty widow named Emma Delagardie in order to discover critical information about a powerful device. Emma is the perfect cover for she is great friend with Napoleon’s adopted daughter. The problem is that Augustus finds Emma a social butterfly that is entirely too fluffy. And Emma finds Augustus’s poet persona less than masculine. But when Emma needs help writing a play Augustus worms his way to helping her for free. Together these two characters soon find that they each have a deeper depth than either realized. And their notions about themselves and each other are tested when Napoleon is crowned Emperor. Soon both are in an atmosphere that can quickly turn deadly especially when Napoleon is urged to put aside his current wife and find a younger one that will strengthen his political might.
While the political backdrop makes the plot interesting it is really the deep characterization of the hero and heroine that makes this book glow. Augustus is still a bit immature and holds onto an ideal that he slowly realizes is untrue. Emma is a socialite who hides her heartbreak with artificial lightness. Neither realizes their full potential and both are somewhat misfits that find comfort, understanding and love in each others arms. The author slowly introduces us to Emma and Augustus and reveals slowly each of their true characters. I liked reading how each of the characters grew to not only understand each other but themselves. I felt myself compelled to turn the pages to find out what made each of them tick. The romance between them is very sweet and realistic. As they start out (for quite a while) disliking each other, then seeing each as good friends, and then finally lovers.
Intrigue a glitter backdrop and two complex characters that grow to love each other make for a fascinating romance.

A Soul So Wicked by Sharie Kohler
Paranormal Romance -Dec. 28th, 2012
4 ½ stars
A shifter tortured by his animal nature and a witch who only wanted revenge for the murder of her family make for gripping reading in the latest installment of Sharie Kohler’s Moon Chasers series.
The past
Beautiful and cursed with powers, Tresa was coveted by the powerful Lord Marshan. When she rejected Lord Marshan’s advances he killed her husband and grandmother. Near death herself, she rashly makes a pact with a demon when she curses Marshan for his evil. But her curse rebounds resulting in her own immortality as she finds herself possessed by a terrible demon named Balthazar.
The present
Tresa has constantly been on the run, but has decided to live in Alaska where the cold prevents the demon from taking a stronger hold on her body and mind. Slowly, she is making friends and learning to live. But she is plagued by dreams of terrible murders and soon realizes that the demon Balthazar has possessed another witch and is committing heinous murders in another state. Determined to stop the murders and help the other possessed witch Tresa decides to leave but finds herself imprisoned instead!
Darius is a shifter who hates his lycan side. He and his entire line were cursed by an evil witch named Tresa. His life has been devoted to finding her and reversing the curse. Finally, he has found her in the cold climates of Alaska. Here he plans to capture her and force her to aid him. However, when he finds her he discover that Tresa is very attractive and even seems human. Not the ‘devil’ he had imagined. Still, he knows she must know some way to rid him of his curse and holds her captive. Unfortunately, he is surprised when humans who kill his kind track him down. They torture him and free Tresa.
Inexplicably, Tresa feels for Darius, and to help free him from his captors. She flees after providing a distraction but soon finds Darius is hot on her trail. When Darius discovers that she plans to leave Alaska to prevent a serial killer connected with her demon he agrees to help. But this demon is clever….
This was a fantastic book that pulled me in from the first page. Tresa’s strength and silent suffering made her a wonderfully sympathetic character. Tresa deeply regrets her pact. She knows the curse was wrong. She only wanted Lord Marshan hurt, not his entire line cursed as shifters! The problem is that although the demon does inhabit her body occasionally, if she is killed the demon is let loose on the world. A far worse scenario. Therefore, she suffers alone and tries to find some peace as the demon tries to tempt her and use her powers. When Darius arrives she understands his pain and is shocked at her intense reaction to him. Tresa wishes she could help him but at the same time she knows she must try to protect herself from his anger and find a way to prevent the demon from killing more innocents. Darius is all heat and brooding intensity. His wild, animal magnetism draws women throughout the book and Tresa is no exception! Only this time he finds that he returns the attraction. But Darius is torn because he should not want the woman who has caused so much suffering. Darius has a lot of resentment but when he sees how truly good Tresa is he finds it within himself to care for her. In fact, I found this book refreshing in that while he was understandably angry and bitter, he stops blaming her and instead aids her. Usually the male hero blames the heroine throughout the story and then I wonder why the heroine even would want the guy. But Darius shows early on that he can rise above the past and not treat Tresa like dirt. I also liked that the possessed witch/murderer is not who you would expect.
Two tortured and heroic characters and one evil demon make this a passionate and edgy read.

The Lady Most Willing by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway
Historical Romance –Dec. 27th, 2012

Mayhem, love, and laughs make this book the perfect pick me up as three unlikely couples pair up.
Laughs and chaos ensue when a well-intentioned if slightly crazy uncle kidnaps three heiresses for his two poor nephews to marry. But plans go awry when the uncle mistakenly steals another lady of poor means and a duke, too! And when the kidnapped ‘guests’ try to leave they find themselves snowed in. In this outrageous and funny book each of the authors seamlessly writes three sequential romances that tug at the heart strings and make the reader laugh with sheer glee.
In the first story, by Julia Quinn, Lady Catriona Burns is pretty but without prospects. She knows she was the one who was taken by mistake but is surprised when she finds herself attracted to a duke and he is actually attracted to her! But their stations in life are so apart….
In the story by Eloisa James, Miss Fiona Chisholm is perfectly fine being a spinster. She doesn’t want or need a man! For Fiona is embittered by a horrible ex-fiancé and a terrible scandal in her past keeps other suitors away despite her wealth. However, she is surprised when a handsome earl finds her appealing. As both hide from her scheming sister, their chemistry only intensifies.
In the last romance by Connie Brockway, Lady Cecily is an English beauty that hides her strong will behind a demure façade. Although pursued by many there hasn’t been a man who has attracted her until she meets the devil may care Comte de Rocheforte.
This fun, if short trilogy is a light and cheery romp that fans will enjoy. I liked how each of the stories flows easily with the next and builds on each other. Each of the romances were solid but I have to admit I enjoyed Julia Quinn’s story the most. (I am a sucker for the poor relation who finds love with a fabulous wealthy and handsome lord!) The devious and aggressive Lady Marilla who trying to find a lord to marry but actually pushes men away and into the arms of other women brings many laughs. I also enjoyed the outrageous uncle who sees no wrong in kidnapping to ‘help’ his poor nephews. My only quibble is that I only wish the romances between each of the couple could have been a little longer, I would liked to have known each of the characters more.
This is a quick and charming read that is filled with laughs and heartwarming romance.

These men are the Imnada men who can shift at will but when they murder a family to prevent their existence from being known they are cursed to a night in their shifted form. The man which feels responsible for their curse is named Adam. Adam was on a quest to find a cure but is suddenly murdered. The other three men try to find his murderer and discover that Adam found a cure! But they have few clues. Captain Mac Flannery thinks Adam’s friend a well known actress named Bianca Parrino may be the key to the answer only she is proving frustratingly stubborn and attractive! As Mac pulls her into his world she soon becomes caught up in his world and his secrets. But the nearly extinct Imnada have survived because no one is aware of their existence. Mac must make s decision between the family that exiled him since his curse and a new and unexpected love.
This was a complex, dark, and spellbinding read. The Imnada and their enemies have a long history filled with hatred and betrayal. I can’t wait to read more in the series which I hope will reveal more of their past and why they have been hunted so fiercely. I liked that Bianca is very independent and does not bow down to Mac. She makes Mac rethink his first impression of her and see her as the strong and capable woman she has become. Bianca was married and her marriage turned her off from domineering men. Mac also has hidden depths, at first I though he was very self-absorbed and his feeling that humans are not worthy of his attentions turned me off. It was nice to see him change his attitudes. Mac’s other friends are also cursed and I am very curious to find out more about them!
This new twist on shifters and age old hatreds mixed with a passionate romance make for a satisfying read.

Blood Vow by Karin Tabke
Paranormal Romance – Dec. 4th, 2012
4 ½ stars
Blood Vow is the final book in Karin Tabke’s darkly sensual shifter series.
In Blood Vow two dominant brothers (Rafael and Lucien) are leaders of their own pack. They both are fighting for the love of the beautiful half breed Falon. In the last book, Falon was pregnant with Lucien’s baby and she was abducted by a crazed and powerful shifter named Fenrir. Fenrir betrayed his own kind and is a hideous creature that will do anything to keep Falon. For he believes that only she can save him. But Falon longs for Lucien and Rafael and wants no part of the evil Fenrir.
Meanwhile, both brothers love Falon. But she is only mated to Lucien. However, she has a past with Rahael. Rafael was forced to mate with another shifter to keep Falon safe. As both brothers fight their jealously over Falon they must try to work together to rescue her and fulfill a prophecy that will save their race. But more heartache an trouble occur when it is revealed that Falon’s father is the leader of the men hunting shifters! Will love prevail? And what happens when the heroine makes it known she will not choose one of the brothers but wants both of them for her mate? Will these wildly dominant men be able to share her or will they risk loosing her altogether?
As the third book in the series I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. In the first book Falon is rescued by Rafael and falls in love with him but due to politics is given to his brother Lucien. In the second book Falon comes to love Lucien but still longs for Rafael. This last book is exciting as a once timid Falon lets these two alpha men know her terms. I enjoyed the transformation of Falon into a woman to be reckoned with. While both men are so hot they literally singe the pages I found myself having bit of weak spot for Rafael who was forced to give Falon to his brother. If he did not Falon would have been sentenced to die and then Rafael had to make the difficult decision to mate with another woman he did not care for. As both Lucien and Rafael must reconcile their bitter past and work together to save Falon the testosterone goes into overload. I loved that Falon was the one to ‘tame’ them and because they loved her they did not blame her for a father who almost destroyed their race.
This darkly erotic book is enthralling as one audacious woman is caught between two gorgeous men. But lets them know she will only have them both or not at all.

The Mage’s Daughter by Lynn Kurland
Paranormal Romance –Dec. 4th, 2012 Reprint
5 stars
The Mage’s Daughter is the second in a magical fantasy series that will sweep you into a world you won’t want to leave. This book is a re-print of a six book series about the Nine Kingdoms. The first three book center around the princess Morgan and the second three are about her brother.
Morgan is sword swinging mercenary trying to recover from a nearly fatal injury while dealing with deadly magic. On her journey her companion was the irritatingly cheerful Miach. A man she fell in love with but deceived her about his true identity and his ability to use the same magic that she despises. Feeling betrayed she journeys to the one place she feels comfortable, the forbidding Weger’s Tower.
Miach loves Morgan but must leave to serve his kingdom, but when he returns he finds the wounded Morgan gone! Vowing to bring her back, he travels to the Tower, a mythical sword school. The problem is that once one enters the Tower, he or she does not leave again unless they pass the rigorous trials within. In addition, the Tower is a magic sink hole and Miach’s powers will be of no help to him. Although he is not known as swordsman Miach braves its dangers and secrets in the hopes of finding Morgan and winning her heart again.
The Mage’s Daughter is my favorite in the series of the Nine Kingdoms. It is by far the most romantic as Miach fights to win back the love of a stubborn and hurt Morgan. This fantasy series has everything a reader could want. Action, adventure and evil magic, plus a heroic heroine and a smart, witty hero. I have a soft spot for Miach. He is a rascally guy -devious, fun-loving and utterly charming. But while he seems carefree and lighthearted to the casual eye, this front hides his serious powers and deep well of responsibility as the mage and protector of the realm. I loved that while he has many duties he immediately puts them aside to find Morgan and win her back. It was romantic to read how vulnerable Morgan feels betrayed by his deception but is slowly won over by his dogged devotion. As stated earlier, when he comes the tower of no return Miach knows he is no swordsman, yet he will brave death to prove himself. I was fascinated the series of trials he had to pass to be accepted by Morgan and the teacher of the school that mentored her. Because Morgan has been burned by magic in the past she is wary of Miach. I liked how she grows and comes to accept magic, if not like it and finds it herself to open her heart again. Morgan lives by her sword, serious and even dour but beautiful. She and Miach complement each other wonderfully.
Magical, poignant and utterly romantic, this fantasy sweep me into its world and I didn’t want to leave!

Sweet and romantic this touching novel is a historical romance to remember.
Ian MacGregor is an earl without any money or means. He must find an heiress and quickly before the castle he has inherited completely falls in disrepair. So he plots to win the hand of English heiresses. But unfortunately, he finds himself very much attracted to their poor companion, Augusta Merrick. However, Ian must look over the well being of other people, not what he wants. It seems an impossible for Ian and Augusta to be together. And when one of the heiresses is threatened by her abusive father, Ian feels he must marry her to save her. He knows he is doing the honorable thing to keep the other lass safe, but his heart longs for Augusta instead.
Unexpected hearts become entangled and an abusive father who tries to bully his daughter into marriage makes for heartrending romance. This book takes a tense turn as hope for marriage between Ian and Augusta seems very unlikely. Ian is a hero with good intentions and a noble heart. He wants to marry Augusta for love but neither of them have any money. But thankfully the clever Augusta saves the day and brings this book to a very satisfying and moving end. I enjoyed this emotional and engaging romance. I especially liked the ending as it shows how Augusta is very intelligent and resourceful. This book was refreshing different because it doesn’t have the usual ‘pat’ conclusion but is more realistic and demonstrates how much Ian’s family cares for each other.
Quiet longing and two very charming and likeable characters find well-deserved love in this sweet romance.

When You’re Desired is a well-written and deep romance about passion and secrets from the past.
Celia St Lys has remade herself into the stunningly successful actress she is. Courted by drove of men she secretly shuns them all. For she has learned the hard way to rely only on herself. But her hardened shell is but a mask for a beautiful young foundling who was abandoned. When she sees the chance to take her revenge she discovers that the past is not as she believed and a man she loved will do anything he can to try to ruin her with his bitterness.
This was an intriguing book. Strangely, it was the women in the story (particularly the heroine) who have depth and hidden secrets that pulled me. Bu curiously I found myself emotionally detached from the characters except for the for the hero’s brother the Duke (Hope the author writes his book soon!) What makes this book exceptional is the plot. its twists and turns were immersing. Just when I thought knew the heroine and a few other characters they revealed surprises from their past. There is a lot of backstabbing and hidden agendas. It was interesting to try to figure out what Celia’s true motives were. Many times she seemed like a puppet master and I could tell if she was really the cold calculating actress she ’played’ or the softhearted hearted one who would do a random act of kindness. In fact, I still find her a bit of a mystery! As the author takes the reader on a journey of Celia’s past and the people who have shaped it I was in awe of Celia ability to make something for herself despite the odds. However, her love interest, Lord Simon also has a hidden agenda and I often felt his bitterness toward her made him unworthy. I am still not sure if I like him. This is a book that I enjoyed more for the plot than the likeability of the characters, but what a superb plot!
This Regency romance grabs you and won’t let you go. Compelling and multifaceted characters make for a surprisingly deep and complex novel.

Heart of Atlantis is the long awaited romance of the powerful high priest Alaric (A man who became celibate to serve his Atlantis) and a stubborn, feisty rebel leader.
Quinn is the brave but human rebel leader fighting to save her race from powerful paranormal beings with the help of a tiger shifter named Jack. But on the last mission her friend Jack became stuck in his tiger form and is in danger of loosing his humanity if she can’t find a way to bring him back. Quinn hopes that magic –namely Alaric’s will help her. And Alaric will do anything he can for the courageous woman he has come to love. But aiding Jack may be beyond his powers. To add to matter an evil demon claiming to be Atlantean steals a omnipotent jewel of tremendous magic and wants to rule Atlantis. Alaric has more than he can handle. But when it comes to saving his woman or duty Alaric will have to make difficult choices. For while Quinn tempts him like no other ‘having’ her may mean he could loose all his powers. Just when Atlantis needs him the most!
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Alaric’s story! Celibate for hundreds of years. I knew all the smoldering and suppressed passion would burn the pages, and boy, did it! Quinn is a stubborn and fierce warrior, more comfortable with a weapon in her hand than wearing a dress. She gives Alaric a run for his money and makes him work for her affections. She also is not completely confident in her femininity and I liked how she is willing to finally open up with Alaric. When the villain targets Quinn for own little does he know what he has unleashed in an avenging Alaric. I loved Alaric’s sense of honor and his ability to try to be gentle with a surprisingly fragile Quinn. All I can say is how glad I am the author finally wrote his story!
A smoking hot priest is tempted out of his celibacy for the woman he loves but may loose his powers if he succumbs -just when his race desperately needs him.

Black Moon by J D Tyler
Paranormal Romance –Dec. 4th, 2012
4 stars
Black Moon is the third in the author’s paranormal Alpha Pack series about ex military men who are shifters.
In this book the sorcerer and shifter Kalen Black must combat his demons from his past and discover dark secrets in order to fulfill his true potential. But to do this Kalen must battle his most dangerous foe, a devious and manipulative villain whose seductive words and promises hope to convince Kalen to join him. But this will mean leaving the love of his life, Mackenzie Grant and betraying the men of the Alpha pack who have finally given him a ‘home.’ When the Alpha pack adopted Kalen he felt a new purpose but the allure of power and the temptation of revenge against those who abused him slowly pull Kalen into a dark world that he may never find his way out of! Will the devotion and love of one courageous woman bring him back from the brink of humanity or will Kalen’s slow slide into darkness be irrevocable?
This was an interesting read, not so much action as it is a psychological thriller. Will Kalen join the ‘dark’ side or can he overcome the temptation and redeem himself? The drama and emotional agony Kalen experiences bring a lot of drama and conflict to this story. Sometimes I wasn’t sure if I liked Kalen. Kalen is a very tortured hero and unlike many is very unsure of himself. A troubled childhood and extreme adversity plague him as he struggles to become an honorable man. His inner conflict between what he knows is right and his deepest and ugliest desires are fascinating and even a bit disturbing to read. The evil villain Malik makes his requests and desires for Kalen to join him often very reasonable which makes it all the more sinister. I was shocked and tense throughout the story as the seductive Malik seems to easily convert Kalen. Thankfully, Kalen has a strong and fiery woman who isn’t afraid to fight for her man and her unborn baby. Mackenzie is a courageous and sympathetic heroine. She at first feels abandoned by Kalen when he leaves to ‘protect’ her form Malik’s influence but soon realizes that Kalen needs her help. For if Kalen loose his battle to fight Malik there will also be terrible consequences. I found this book sometimes difficult to read in sections since Kalen at first seems very susceptible and even weak to Malik’s influence. But as the author explores Kalen’s past I could understand his reasoning.
Darkly compelling psychological suspense and a fascinating paranormal world make this a nail biting read.

A Taste of Scandal by Erin Knightley
Historical Romance –Dec. 4th, 2012
4 stars
Deep characterization and charming romance make this engaging Regency romance
For charming and titled Richard Moore, the Earl of Raleigh things have always been a bit too easy. Woman in particular literally fall at his feet! But when he tries to rescue a woman and instead damages her property at her bakery he incurs her wrath. The trouble is Richard is intrigued by the delicious spitfire. For he has finally met a woman who isn’t dazzled by him – a woman who just might be his match! When she refuses to take money for repairs he begs the lovely owner to teach him how to make her delectable confections. And soon finds admiration turns into mutual desire. But Jane is wary of titled men and when a ‘visit’ ruins her reputation will Richard buck convention and make this commoner his wife?
This is a solid read about class differences and the endurance of love. The characters sparkle off the page and have a life all of their own. Jane has suffered, first with the death of her father, then her mother. A young woman alone and raising a high strung younger brother is not easy. When an arrogant if handsome lord is the result of loosing her business and livelihood Jane must find a deep well of courage to survive especially because she is not sure of the lighthearted Richard. At first, it was difficult to like the practical and down to earth Jane. And Richard seemed more of a careless character who did not have ‘substance.’ For Jane’s past has made her a bit prickly but once she opens up she is very loveable and I was happy to discover that Richard was intelligent enough to appreciate her rare beauty. I especially liked when Jane found letters from her dead mother. I admit I got a bit teary-eyed since Jane often felt alone and loved her mother dearly. Richard was a handsome and dashing hero but this book shows how he develops maturity and thinks about the consequences of his actions, especially on those less privileged.
Heartwarming, sweet, this Cinderella like romance is magical and perfect for the holidays!

Angel of Mercy by Christina Ashcroft
Paranormal Romance –Dec 4th, 2012
4 stars
Aurora Robinson knows that her mixed heritage makes her different. Her mother is from another dimension and Aurora hopes by opening a portal and traveling there she can aid her ailing mother who is loosing her sanity. But what happens is the arrival of an arrogant and mesmerizing beautiful man. A man who is actually an infinitely powerful fallen angel who is used to getting his way especially with women! Although she is attracted to his god-like form she will not be any man’s play thing or a notch on his long list of lovers. But her fiery sprit draws Gabriel’s and he can’t keep himself away from the untamed human and finds himself following her and trying to seduce her. But trouble follows Aurora and secrets to her past that even she doesn’t know bind them together. And when danger threatens can they save themselves and find love before it is too late?
The hero made this book. If you loved alpha male who are erotically commanding this book will not disappoint! Gabriel knows he is sexually compelling and he expects a mere human to succumb to him. An is utterly surprised when the little human is able to resist him. Intrigued and finding himself be spelled by her Gabriel pursues Aurora and makes this book all that hotter. Gabriel is one of the sexiest and most alpha heroes I read in a long time. Woman are generally throwing themselves at him And the reader gets the feeling that he just knows how hot he is and that he can back up his skills in the bedroom. This book has a lot of mythical history that makes it a rich and involving tale. How did Gabriel fall and where to angels come from? While at first I enjoyed the background of the story I found that I could not feel emotionally involved with the characters. Aurora seemed to be rather young and even spoiled and Gabriel seemed to expect everyone to bow to him. I liked how their two personalities changed as they fought their attraction and grew. Gabriel doesn’t realize he is caring for a mere human at first and Aurora is determined to save her mother and will not be distracted by an egotistical angel even if he is sex on a stick. Their scenes sizzle off the pages and I found myself reading a little faster to read them ‘together’ again.
Wickedly erotic this scorching new paranormal series about masterful and gorgeous angels is a fantasy read that I didn’t want to end. Bravo!
