Night Shift by Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews, Lisa Shearin and Milla Vane
Paranormal Romance -Nov. 25th, 2014
4 1/2 stars
Secrets at Midnight by Nalini Singh
Big, tough shifter Bastien Smith, loves his life but lately he has found himself lonely for a more permanent type of companionship. Unfortunately, his mate hasn't shown up! He has scented her elusive perfume but has tried in vain to find her. Slightly depressed, he sneaks out of his mother's party and drives another guest leaving early to her home. But to his surprise he finds the woman of his dreams when he drops off his mother’s guest. Her name is Kirby. But Kirby doesn’t seem to be a shifter and she has ghosts from her past. Ones that haunt her and prevent her from fully committing to Bastien.
4 1/2 stars A solid read but not as developed as her full length novels. Bastien was sexy and determined. But I kept yearning for a bit more about Kirby and Bastien together!
Magic Steal by Ilona Andrews
Magic Steals continues the romance between shifters Dali and Jim. Dali has beautiful, magical powers but she can't stand blood and doesn’t eat meat. So she is really different from other shifters. The problem is she that she is dating Jim. Jim is the Cat alpha and he needs a strong mate to protect him. She doesn’t feel she is strong enough for Jim, but she loves him. When Dali and Jim try to solve a mystery together she discovers her powers make her a good mate for Jim. But can she finally realize she is worthy?
5 stars This was my absolute favorite in the anthology. I’ve re-read it four times already. Dali has been featured in another short by the authors and it was equally good! Dali is a powerful tiger shifter. In this story Dali discovers her worth and Jim shows her how much he cares for her and values her. Even though this was a short story I really felt the emotion between these two characters. I wish the authors would write even more about them. Excellent!
Lucky Charms by Lisa Shearin
Luck Charms is a fresh new start to new series by Lisa Shearin. It introduces Makenna Frazier, a human seer that has signed up to work for the Supernatural Protection and Investigations. Her first assignment is to find a nasty leprechaun prince gone wild at a bachelor party. The problem is they must find him before an international incident occurs. Unfortunately, her new partner is a grim, gun-toting machine that seems to resent babysitting her. Their relationship is definitely on the cold side -can Makenna convince him to cooperate and become a real team member? Will they be able to find the prince in time?
4 ½ stars This start to a new series is a fun romp. Her partner is a real grouch and good foil for the innocent Makenna. But there are reason for this. I found their relationship made this an exciting read.
The Beast of Blackmoor by Milla Vane
The Beast of Blackmoor is a serious, mythical story. As a land and the man that is its rightful ruler are cursed. It takes a heroic female of prodigious faith to bring hope. But will the stubborn man let himself be swayed by her and let go or will he keep his obstinate ways before it is too late?
3 ½ stars. This book was well written but the characters did not interest me. The ‘hero’ does not seem to have many redeeming qualities and I did not think he was worthy of the heroine, Mala. Mala made a lot of sacrifices but the hero did not seem to make any significant ones of his own. Mala seems to have enough faith for them both but the hero only seems to bring her down. Although he finally does save the day it is almost too late. This story left me with mixed feelings.

Romance Novel -Nov. 25th, 2014
4 stars
Emotional, compelling and poignant. This book will having you smiling one moment and crying the other. It is truly for the secret romantic -that believes in the power of love.
Jane Williams has inherited a gift. One that she can hardly believe is true. All her life she has felt that there is something wrong with her. And she believes she has a rare tumor. For sometimes her vision blurs and she becomes disoriented. And her symptoms are getting worse! Her doctor is pressuring her into a potentially life saving surgery. But Jane has recently been told by a mysterious woman that she has a power. She can see love in all its forms. The woman tells her that her vision blurs when she sees two people in love and there is nothing medically wrong with her. But Jane can’t quite believe her. The woman also tells her she has to discover the different types of love with her gift before it is too late. If Jane doesn't, she will never find her own true love.
This was an intriguing book. I liked how fanciful yet serious it was. I enjoyed seeing the various people struck by love through Jane’s eyes. It was like an insider’s peek show, knowing these couples had to make difficult choice to keep their love and wondering what they would do. Unfortunately, I felt Jane was not as interesting as the people she observed. At first, she denies what she is seeing but soon she must acknowledge her gift. Of risk a life alone and unloved. This book demonstrates the power of love and its many forms. It is filled with hope, heart-break and great joy. This is a rare book to treasure. It will make you glad to be human and have the ability to love.

What to Do with A Bad Boy by Marie Harte
Contemporary Romance -Nov. 4th, 2014
5 stars
What to Do with A Bad Boy is the forth in the sizzling McCauley Brothers contemporary romance series. As the last hold out, Mike McCauley finally meets his match in a tough female mechanic with attitude and tattoos.
Mike McCauley’s brothers have all found the love of their lives. But Mike still hasn’t recovered from loosing his wife years ago. But the one thing he has left is their beautiful son, Colin. A mischievous brat that wants a new mom! When Colin meets the sassy mechanic, Delilah, he is rapturous. She is the coolest things since mint chocolate chip ice cream. However, his father isn’t cooperating and liking her, too. But Mike does find himself unaccountably drawn to Del. (Although she is the complete opposite of his dead wife!) And even although his meddling mother is throwing women at him that are similar to his wife he can’t seem to find any interest for any of them. But his bothers notice Mike attraction to Del and help Colin try to match up Del and Mike. But can Mike forgive himself for letting go of his wife? And will Del even be ready for a committed relationship?
This book was a riot. Colin is one determined rascal that loves Del and wants her to be his new mom. Only his grumpy father won’t get with the program! Mike is handsome, nice and very aloof. He still mourns his dead wife. He resents his interfering family and is angry with himself for finding another woman attractive. Del also finds Mike hot and his kid absolutely adorable. But she doesn’t care for how Mike dismisses her as 'not worthy' and the extra tension between the two of them because Colin likes her so much. The chemistry Mike and Del as they fight their attraction and try to deny their feelings is hilarious to read. Especially as Colin and his encouraging uncles find ways to set Mike and Del up. Poor Mike and Del are in deep denial. That is until Mike can’t take it anymore and finally kisses Del like a wet dream and then things really heat up. I liked this book because the family is too funny and because Mike has to forgive himself for loving someone besides his wife. Also, Del embraces her feminine side and lets herself open to the possibility that she can find a true and lasting love.
Snappy dialogue, fun characters and loving brothers that love to rib each other make this a killer book. I was sad to read the last page. I hope the author starts a new series immediately.

Alanna by Kathleen Bittner Roth
Historical Romance- Nov. 4th, 2014
4 stars
Alanna is written like to the romances in the past. Lush, detailed and sweeping. Alanna is a headstrong, bold heroine. Even though she is betrothed to another man of her family’s choosing she wants the mysterious tracker only known as Wolf. When she propositions him she starts a tumultuous relationship that has far reaching consequences. For Wolf has returned to Boston to seek vengeance on the mysterious murderer of his mother. As he tries to resist Alanna and find the truth, he discovers more than in bargains for when he must make a choice between revenge and love.
This book is set in eighteenth century America. Rich and detailed, it begins with the vicious murder of Wolf’s mother while he listens as a frightened boy in hiding. Wild and untamed he becomes a well-known tracker -finding missing people. But he can’t run away from his past or the need to punish the person that killed his mother. When he returns to Boston he meets the alluring Alanna. A woman of wealth and breeding. But he doesn’t want to taint her with his past and tires valiantly to stay away from her. But Alanna wants him and she is one determined lady! The story unfolds slowly, which builds a lot of tension between the two characters. I also liked that the main characters didn’t hop to bed together so fast that you wondered if they even liked or respected each other. I knew when they ‘got together’ that they truly cared for each other. Each of the characters has depth and grow throughout the book -with the enigmatic guidance of Alanna’s nanny/guardian, Old Chinese. I really liked the addition of Old Chinese. He brings some interesting insights and some very unexpected plots twists. This book was a wonderful surprise. The more I read it, the more layers were revealed. This book will make you want to know about the characters and how they will resolve their differences. Readers that enjoy mystery will be thrown by the killer plot as the murderer of Wolf’s mother is revealed. The one drawback to this book is that because it is so detailed it will feel slower paced than typical romances of today and impatient readers may be dissatisfied.
Deep characters in a sweeping romance filled suspense and passion make this an unforgettable novel.

Her Lone Wolf by Paige Tyler
Paranormal Romance -Nov. 4th, 2014
4 stars
Her Lone Wolf is part of the author’s sizzling X-Ops series but it can easily be read by itself.
FBI Agent Danica Beckett used to part of an ultra secret paranormal team. Until she fell in love with her partner, a wolf shifter named Clayne Buchanan. However, romance between teammates was strictly taboo. When they are discovered she is blackmailed and decides to leave. But breaks her partner, Clayne’s, heart. This book is the second installment in her X-Ops series but can easily be read by itself.
It is two years later and Danica recognizes a serial killer that happens to be a shifter. She knows she must contact her old team for help. But when her back up arrives it is Clayne and old feelings and hurts come back to the forefront. Can she and Clayne keep their passionate past from interfering with their investigation or will the tension between let a murder loose to kill again? And what will happen when they become the new targets, will they be able to resolve their differences and find love again?
This is a great addition to paranormal shifter romances. Danica and Clayne have real chemistry. Although I was a bit underwhelmed when the novel revealed what Danica was being blackmailed about, the rest of the book will have paranormal fans satisfied. The group of X-Ops characters are endlessly interesting. I especially appreciated the author giving peeks of Ivy and Landon from her prior book into the series. Danica is a tough agent with a big heart that she tries to hide. She still holds a torch for Clayne but knows leaving was best for him. She has finally found some peace with her new FBI partner and encouraging best friend. She doesn’t want Clayne back in her life -dredging up emotions she rather not feel again. Clayne is shocked when his next assignment teams him up with the woman that left him. And the woman he still loves. Angry and confused he just wants this new job over with. However, they are forced to cooperate with each other because the killer is super smart and ultra evil. Readers that enjoy bad, twisted villains will enjoy this novel. The killer made this a tense read especially when he targets both main characters. Clayne and Danica belong together and I liked how they had to work past their feelings and find a new respect and caring for each other.
Tense, action-packed romance with hot shifters. Oh, yeah, this book will draw you in.

However, the cunning Lady Antonia wants a title and is set upon becoming Richard’s new wife. Sweet and engaging, Sophie makes this book glow. She is a rare gem that is both noble and kind. But carries enough sass to keep you entertained. Richard seems to have it all but the problem with having it all is not knowing what you really want. When he meets Sophie he thinks he is annoyed with her but really he is fascinated by her. She is not like the people he has grown up with. She is more genuine and true. Something he was brought up to believe only existed within his own class. As he is confronted by his upbringing and transforms into maturity I admired the man he became. Someone worthy of Sophie. A Virgin for His Prize by Lucy Monroe
Contemporary Romance - Nov. 1st, 2014
4 ½ stars
As the second in her Ruthless Russians series this book sizzles with sexual tension. As a manipulative tycoon worms his way in the bed and heart of beautiful socialite, Romi Grayson.
Romi and her sister by choice, Madison, are wealthy. While the media reports them as flightly 'playgirls' the truth is both are virgins waiting for the men that they will give their hearts to. Romi thought she had found the man of her dreams in the devastatingly handsome and ruthless Maxwell Black. But Maxwell doesn't do long term and Romi doesn't want to open herself to heart break. It is a year later and Max has decided that denying himself Romi is something he is no longer prepared to do. He offers her a bargain too impossible to resist. He promises to get her alcoholic father into rehab and take care of his father's business before it goes under -if she signs a contract and marries him. With mutually exclusive rights! But Max makes it clear he doesn't do love although he actions say otherwise. Can Romi take a chance on a man that doesn't believe in love when that is the only thing she wants from him? And the only thing he denies being able to give her?
This book had me from the first page and I stayed up early in the morning to finish it. Max exudes sex and Romi simply couldn't resist him. Reader won't be able to resist him either! Although he denies any ability to love, the way he pursues Romi and uses any tool in his arsenal to persuade and keep her for him himself had me hot under the collar! Romi and Max had an undeniable attraction that will make you want them to find their happily ever after. I really like the sweet, tender Romi who hides behind her socialite facade and didn't want her heart damaged by Max. Although I found Max extra sexy I wasn't sure if he would be gentle with Romi. However, with Max's dogged pursuit I could eventually tell he loved her even if he couldn't admit it. And waited with suppressed glee until he finally broke down and confessed his true feelings. This book was too short for me. I would have loved reading more about each of the characters.
Super hot bad boy finds love and redemption with a beautiful heiress.

Heartwarming Christmas novel filled with multiple romances and holiday cheer.
Icicle Creek Lodge was the dream of Olivia Wallace and her dead husband. Now she runs it alone with her devoted son. This year Christmas seem rather glum although Olivia hopes to infuse the Lodge with Christmas festivities as her new guests arrive. This year a devoted daughter wants to give her heart-broken father the spirit of the holidays, a poor mother of two tries to treat her children to a holiday vacation she can't afford and a young man hopes to propose to the girlfriend he loves. But nothing goes as planned as love fills the air and causes mayhem and mischief!
This story is a very sweet romance with several couples finding love. It is a book that will definitely put you in the mood for the holidays. This book had many suprises and a good balance of characters that readers will enjoy. However, readers that like steamy romance maybe disappointed. Since the characters don't do more than kiss. Olivia Wallace is a kind grandmotherly type that could double for Mrs. Claus. She will make you wish that there was a real Icicle Creek Lodge to visit. I liked how each of the characters found unexpected love and some even transformed. But with so many characters, the author isn't able to get as in depth with each of them individually and I found myself wanting to read more!

This YA adult novel will pull you in and surprise you with its unexpected ending and dramatic romance.
Tessa is a straight arrow student headed for college and a bright future. But that all changes when she meets her tattooed rebel of a roommate Stephanie. Stephanie has a ‘bad boy’ friend named Hardin that Tessa finds equally attractive and repulsive. He seems to hate her and yet pursue her. Soon they are hanging out together and Tessa becomes unnerved by his intensity. Tessa also finds an unexpectedly soft side to him that makes her want to take care of him. But Hardin has strange bursts of anger and is continually keeping secrets from her. Hurt and humiliated, she tries to break it off with him but he begs her to take him back. But even when she relents when he says he will change his wild ways. She still feels like his dirty little secret. He doesn't want her near his friends and she always finds out from other students what new trouble he is up to. But Hardin has a terrible secret that may completely break Tessa's faith in him.
I liked that this book doesn’t hold back at all. Hardin is a rebel that seems untamable and I could see why Tessa would be excited by his company. But while he is a compelling character he is also very disturbing. He has emotional issues that make him a powder keg ready to explode in virtually every chapter. I never really warmed up to him but I felt bad for him and could understand why soft-hearted Tessa might fall for him. That being said, I never felt he was good enough for Tessa. He was that shady. But girls that love the bad boys will devour Hardin's misunderstood demeanor. He is sexy and tough and at strange times gentle to Tessa. This book have me conflicted. The author kept me turning the pages, I wanted to find out Hardin's secrets and hoped to give Tessa a happy ending.
Readers will be shocked by this emotional roller coaster of a romance.

And what she had right in front of her may be what she wanted all along, if only she hasn’t lost it forever!
This was an engrossing story about a woman trying to find herself -even if it isn't safe or comfortable. I liked that Becca pushed herself and found what was really important in life. She starts out a little clueless and despondent from the loss of her ex-boyfriend. But she keeps pushing herself and as she tried new things I cheered for her. Although I knew early on where the book was headed, the main character's charm carried the story and made me want to read more. I loved that she baked and enjoyed food. The author made the 'snacks' Becca created sound so heavenly I wanted to have a baked good of my own while reading the book. This is a good pick-me-up romance that will have you smiling and happy that Becca finally got it just right.

Ruining Mr. Perfect by Marie Harte
Contemporary Romance - Oct. 7th, 2014
4 ½ stars
As the third book the highly additive McCauley Brother series, I couldn’t wait to find out how the ‘perfect brother’ Cameron McCauley would woo and win the almost equally perfect and sassy Vanessa Campbell.
Vanessa Campbell works hard and looks fantastic. She takes care of her body and works relentless hours on her goal to become partner at her accounting firm. She doesn’t have time for a relationship and honestly doesn’t think she can handle anything serious anyway. But her neighbor, Mike McCauley has a brother named Cameron that just might make her rethink those thoughts! Cameron loves the saucy and confident Vanessa. And what Cameron wants he usually gets. As her purses Vanessa he finds a woman that is unwilling to open herself up. Will he give up or will Vanessa finally realize that Cameron is worth opening her heart to and taking the chance on love with?
In this book, Vanessa is closed off from her feelings and is a bit like the ‘man’ in the romance. While Cameron is the more understanding and empathetic one. But Cameron is far from being feminine in any way. He just is more well-rounded than his brothers. Cameron is so smart and on track sometimes I felt he was too good to be true. But I think he needed to be to catch up with the always on the run Vanessa. I liked how the perpetually strong Vanessa finally lets Cameron into her life. Especially when she asks him to come with her on a visit to see her cold parents. In fact, Vanessa is a riot. Her brutally honest rejoinders and snappy wit are funny to read and hide a heart that doesn’t want to get hurt. I kept anticipating the next outrageous remark from her razor-sharp tongue. But when her honest interfering goes a step too far it lands her in deep water with Cameron and his family. On the other hand, Cameron has always been the odd man out with his brother and father. A little too sensitive, he actually talks about things! He is his mother favorite and he knows women and appreciates them. Both characters complemented each other very well and I liked how Vanessa finally realizes how much Cameron means to her, when she might loose him. Of course, Cameron is too smart for that to happen.
Sexy, smart and totally involving, readers will love that latest installment in the McCauley Brother books.

Celine is the first in the author’s 19th century series set in early America. This is a saga that readers will want to read more about!
Celine Kirkland has been married and was involved in a terrifying accident. Now adopted by a kind stranger, Celine is at a cross roads. To go out on her own alone or play it safe and stay with the kindly gentlemen that helped rescue her. But her fate is irrevocably changed when the prodigal son, Trovor Andrews, comes home. Celine finds herself instantly attracted to Trevor. Trevor is returning to New Orleans for a business trip but does not intend to stay. However, the minx staying at his father’s estate is tempting. And what Trevor wants he gets. But what he doesn’t bargain on is love. When tragedy strikes Celine an Trevor are parted. Treveo becomes a bitter, hard man and pushes Celine away cruely. Can they find their way back to each other or wil other forces prevent their happily ever after?
This book brings the flavor of New Orleans. There are may plot twists that keep the storyline interesting. But the many misunderstandings between the characters made the storyline often frustrating. Celine is a sweet character but is often naive. I liked how she grows up and no longer sees life in black and white. Celine is not as active as some heroines I have read but I liked how she changes and starts taking charge of her life. Trevor is a smooth rascal bent on seduction. But Trevor shows her true passion! I also enjoyed reading about the Native Americans in the storyline and wish the author had spent more time writing about them. This was a sweeping romance that will engage readers that love historical romances!

To Love a King is the long awaited and mysterious romance between the handsome and powerful Prince of Fairy, Felan ap Gwyn and his ‘lost’ human lover, Jacqueline Ara.
The dangerous Fairy Court has kept Felan way from the one woman her loves. His attempts to protect her have resulted in Jacqueline believing that she was never as important to him as he was to her. But when he must find a human queen to rule beside him before his beautiful court dies he will only consider Jacqueline -despite the dire circumstances and past misunderstandings. However, convincing Jacqueline of his love is another matter. To win over Jacqueline’s heart and persuade her to become pregnant with his child to rule the Fairy Court will require all his seductive skills. When Felan was forced to leave her, he left Jacqueline to rebuild her life again. And although she still has feelings for him she doesn’t want go through that kind of pain again. Can he persuade her to trust him again before it is too late?
In the prior books in this series the author has shown glimpses of Prince Felan. His cunning, charm and handsome figure. He works behind the scenes to hopefully protect the Fairy Court. Now his plans are revealed and much of the books hangs in suspense. Can he convince Jacqueline to trust him and love him again? How will he impregnate her in time? I really enjoyed reading the new Hunter and the rest of the returning cast as they fight to save the Fairy Court from the evil Sulia. But I also felt deeply for the poor, abandoned Jacqueline. I wanted Felen to prove himself to her after she suffered through his desertion -when she needed him the most. I understood she didn’t want to face heartache again. What I loved about this story is that Felan really loves Jacqueline. She is the only one for him and he won’t look for someone else even though the stakes are life and death for him and the ones he cares for. But time is very short and persuading her is not and easy feat there were times I worried Felan wouldn’t convince Jacqueline and it made the book a fast, tense read. I also loved the ending, it was very surprising and leads to the possibility of future books in the series!

Realizing her mistake almost too late, she flees before her wedding and is soon hunted by his pack. But another werewolf from another clan she is friendly with comes to her rescue. His name is Guthrie MacNeill. Guthrie is sexy and can’t help finding Calla attractive, too. But Guthrie has loved and lost. Burned by another woman, he isn’t ready to open his heart again. But when Calla’s ex keeps trying to get her back Guthrie can’t help riding to the rescue. Soon they find that although they both deny they want a real relationship they can’t help enjoying each other’s company. But to act on those needs will mean they are mated for life. Will they find love despite themselves or will they lose this chance to find their heart’s desire.
This was exciting from the very beginning. It begins with Calla fleeing from her ex. I liked that as soon as she realized her ex was not the man she thought he was, she refused to mate with him. Even though he brings his packmates to ‘convince’ her! Calla and Guthrie and meant for each other but the timing isn’t exactly perfect. Calla is still sore from her bully of an ex and Guthrie is still licking his wounds from an unfaithful woman he thought he loved. But to their friends, their attraction is obvious and so the matchmaking begins! It was fun to read their well intentioned friends throw them together subtly and not so subtly. As Calla’s ex tries to get her back, Guthrie is there for her. And the contrast between them makes it obvious how good Guthrie is in comparison. Soon their proximity and passion for each other can’t be contained! Guthrie is a honorable wolf and never tries to force himself on Calla like her ex. I only wonder how Calla stopped herself from falling for Guthrie sooner! Calla is smart and brave. She refusing to let the threat of her ex change her life. Although Guthrie and Calla have a smoldering passion for each other I liked how they almost seemed to be like long lost friends, too. They respected and cared each other. Theirs will be a long, lasting relationship.
Meddlesome, matchmaking friends and a zealous ex make this a highly entertaining and action filled romance.

What a Lady Needs for Christmas by Grace Burrowes
Historical Romance -Oct. 7th, 2014
4 stars
Innocent and naive, Lady Joan Flynn is running from disaster. Her foolish dreams of becoming a ladies’s fashion designer fading as scandal threatens to ruin her. Alone and desperate to find her way home she finds herself stranded at the railway station unable to buy a ticket on a full train. When then a precocious child and her grumpy and reluctant father offer Joan her lodging with them. As first Joan feels compelled to decline since she has no proper companion. But the man is actually one she danced with at a recent ball. When Joan learns he also has a sister on the trip for respectability, she agrees gratefully. The man’s name is Mr. Dante Hartwell. He is wealthy and in trade -and shunned by the titled. When they danced Lady Joan’s acceptance of him at the ball paved his way to some acceptance by society, but he still failed to find a suitable wife.
While on the train, the gruff Dante has a surprisingly soft side and Joan finds herself wanting to confide in him about her disgrace. In turn, Dante discovers that Joan is utterly unlike the air-headed ladies he has met before. Her head for finances and gentle instruction of his children draws them. But their differences in station and the ‘mistake’ Joan is running from come back to haunt them. Can they find love despite their pasts?
Sweet, thoughtful and utterly charming. Fans of historical romance and Grace Burrowes will adore this book. Joan is in peril and Dante comes admirably to her rescue even though it is with the prompting of his cute and persistent daughter. Dante’s children are easy to love and I actually wished the author had included them more often in the story. They don’t have a mother’s guidance and Dante’s daughter is particularly a mischievous imp! Dante and Joan are attracted to each other but on the long journey on the train they begin to know and truly care for each other. I liked reading about Joan’s unconventional family and upbringing which matches Dante unconventional rise to wealth. Dante appears tough but is really a big softie and he is soon utterly captivated by Joan. While Joan is often a little too naive she has a rare combination of practicality and sweetness that will make readers want to know what she is running from and hope she will confide with Dante. However, the only sore point for me was how agonizingly long it took for Joan to confide and ask someone for help. Because of this she places herself in increasingly dire circumstances. This book also includes a very touching romance between the rascally smart-mouth, Hector and Dante’s shy sister Margs. Margs secretly wants children of her own and a husband to love. When she sees Dante and Joan falling in love she is afraid she will be displaced and alone. But what she doesn’t realize is how much her friend Hector has secretly loved her. I confess to wishing the author had spent a little longer on their romance!
A dastardly villian, a damsel in distress, plus entertaining secondary characters and two romances make this historical romance one you won’t want to put down!

Tortured and experimented on the ‘free’ vampire have become utterly brutal to survive. Except for the MoonBound clan and its new leader Hunter. He wants a more civilized vampire world, not one ruled by superstition and violence at every turn. Unfortunately, he has made a pact with a ruthless vampire clan called the ShadowSpawn. He will mate with their first born daughter and create a united front towards peace. However, his wily ShadowSpawn betrothed named Rasha has plans of her own. Devious and even cold-hearted, Rasha she only lives for power. With Rasha is her crippled twin, Aylin accompanies Rasha she is surprised that the MoonBound clan does not scorn her for her deformity or tender heart. After Rasha’s wedding, Aylin will be sent to marry another clan chief but one that is cruel.
When both sisters meet Hunter, Aylin is drawn to the honorable and handsome vampire, and wishes she could change places with Rasha. To her surprise Hunter seems to return her regard. But the odds seems against them. However, when Rasha refuses to go on a sacred quest with Hunter and Aylin volunteers to go in her place the two find a love that cannot be denied. Will they be able to fight against two ruthless clans that have agendas of their own?
Dark, edgy and primal. The brutal way the vampires enforce and keep control through fear made the story very suspenseful. This book is filled with tension, passion and longing. I enjoyed the first book, but Chained by Night is ten times better!! The romance between Hunter and Aylin and the suffering they endured had me rooting for them from their first meeting. I totally hated Aylin’s sister, Rasha. She was immoral and didn’t deserve her good sister or Hunter.
Hunter is a strong warrior but unlike the other vampire clans he refuses to lead through violence and fear. He is haunted by how his father ruled and wants change in the vampire clans. He hopes uniting with Rasha will ease his new ideas. But when he meets Aylin he is taken by her kindness and courage. Even though she is demeaned by her own clan she cares for others and still fights to stay alive. Her will to live through humiliation and help others made me want her happiness after so much heartache. I was so glad Hunter could see how wonderful she was and fight for her despite the political ramifications. This book also had a lot of twists that kept the plot rolling and added to further intrigue! Chained by Night is another winner for Larissa Ione.
This book will have you on the edge or your seat. I didn’t want it to end and can’t wait for more books in the series!

Son of No One by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Paranormal Romance - Sept. 2nd, 2014
4 ½ stars
Son of No One was a fun, action-filled read. While the cover states it is a Dark Hunter Novel. The hero is not a Dark Hunter nor is the heroine.
Good-hearted but down on her luck, Josette Laundry thinks she has seen it all. After all, she has family members that are married to Dark Hunters and other Immortals. When Josette is offered a well paying job by her cousin she finally thinks her luck has turned around. But being hired to do photography for witches is bound to cause unforeseen problems! When she gets to her job Josette falls into a magical mirror and is literally transported into hell. She immediately finds herself running from zombie-like creatures. But a rugged and handsome stranger saves her. His name is Cadegan. A man that is more than he seems. Josette is drawn to his honor and his vulnerability. She finds the sexy man too desirable and she can’t believe he feels the same way! As she fights to return home with Cadegan’s help she discovers that Cadegan does not intend to go back with her. In fact, he knows being with her will place her in constant danger. He is doomed to stay in hell and protect a magical shield that everyone wants. But sassy Josette won’t leave without him....
Son of No One was a fantastic read. Characters from prior books in the Dark Hunter series return and make this a joyous and entertaining read. Cadegan is an atypical hero. He is a noble, tortured individual but I like that he wasn’t as dark as the author’s other heroes. Even though he has been betrayed by everyone he has ever cared for, he still has the ability to care for Josette despite knowing she will leave him. Abandoned by his mother, hated by his lover and thrown into hell for a thousand years by his own brother, Cadegan still carries on. He fights his demon side while protecting his powerful shield from falling into power hungry hands. The feisty and innocent Josette is irresistible to him and I loved reading how this strong character is amazed that she cares for him, too. What makes Cadegan’s special is that he still retains his humanity and opens himself to Josette. Josette and Cadegan are a delightful together. I liked how they both felt like misfits but found love and sanctuary in each others arms. This book was a lot of fun to read because the characters and the story are actually a bit playful. I enjoyed reading about Cadegan’s parentage and there are lot of suprises that I hope the author will continue with in following books. I only wish the book had been longer and there had been more adventures with Josette and Cadegan. The book seems to end a bit abruptly. Readers should be warned that the last pages are actually an excerpt of her next book Born of Betrayal which is part of her futuristic League series. The teaser will make readers want to read her upcoming book but it makes the story shorter than readers would expect.
Unexpectedly funny and completely entertaining. I wanted more of Josette and Cadegan.

Shifting Shadows by Patricia Briggs
Urban Fantasy- Sept. 2nd, 2014
5 stars
In Shifting Shadows, Patricia Briggs brings together short stories that have been previously published but also new ones that will delight readers.
The first story is named Silver and tells how Samuel and Bran became werewolves and the how Ariana and Samuel met and fell in love. This a dark tale and since it does not end well. Some readers may feel dissatisfied even though readers of the Mercy series know what awaits them all in the future. But curious readers will love finding out about their pasts.
Fairy Gifts is about a vampire that is called to help a fairy and the surprising results. This was a solid read as the vampire out smarts the other characters in the story. But I sort of felt that the story was too short and would have liked more development.
Gray is another story about a vampire named Elyna. She wants to find peace with her long, lost love. But when she visits her old home the vampire leader of the territory wants her gone. Will Elyna be able to stay or will the other vampire force her out? This was a clever story that readers will find unexpected!
In Seeing Eye, a blind witch and a hulking werewolf find attraction and danger as they fight a powerful ‘coven’ to free the werewolf’s brother. This story was fun to read, Patricia Briggs really develops both characters and made this story one where you really care about them. Hope to read more about them in future Mercy books!
Alpha and Omega is the story about how Charles and Anna first meet. From the first, the attraction between them crackles. They are meant for each other. This was my favorite in the anthology, wish the author had written more in this anthology about them.
The Star of David is a bittersweet story about a werewolf that alienated his daughter. A daughter that is human and now physically older that her father. But when his daughter gets in over her head she asks the father she hasn’t spoken to in years for help. This is a hopeful story that will warm the heart.
Roses in Winter is about Kara. A child that was turned into a werewolf but has not been able to control her shift. Usually any newly turned werewolf that can’t control their shift from werewolf into human within a years time is killed for the protection of all. For Kara, it has had much longer. Bran must get her to control her wolf or kill her. But with the help of two ancient werewolves Kara might have a chance. Kara makes the reader want to root for her. I liked how she befriend the mysterious and deadly Asil. Asil also reveals more about his past which makes this story one that will thrill fans like me.
In Red, With Pearls, is a detective story that features the gay werewolf Warren and his mate. This was a thrilling mystery that was too short. It was fun to read more about Warren, he is a very likeable character with a quirky sense of humor. Even though it was a bit of a gory mystery, it was a lighthearted read.
Redemption is about a werewolf named Ben. Usually at the bottom of the pack totem pole Ben finds inner strength and his own alpha at work. Ben was hilarious to read as he protects his human pack in a very unconventional and entertaining way.
In Hollow, a twisted mother makes her son miserable from the grave. Can Mercy find a way to let him live his own life without mother love? A bit creepy, but totally satisfying, I only wish there had been more stories with Mercy in this anthology.
Lastly the author throws in a couple of very short outtakes in the Mercy series that she couldn’t fit in her books.
Fans will love this book. Finally, all of Patricia Briggs novellas in one book. All the stories were well worth reading but I have to admit enjoying Warren and the budding romance between Charles and Anna the best. This is a book readers will not want to miss. In turns, clever, funny, and even macabre -but always satisfying. There isn’t a story readers won’t enjoy on some level.

A Winter Wedding by Amanda Forester
Historical Romance- Sept. 2nd, 2014
4 stars
A Winter Wedding will warm your heart. Romantic, funny and utterly charming.
James Lockton, the Duke of Marchford wants a wife, so he hires his grandmother’s companion, Miss Penelope Rose to find one for him. He trusts her sound reasoning to catch him an eligible match. But the Duke seems impossible to please and the close proximity between them causes unforseen attraction. When they are caught in a compromising situation the Duke feels honor bound to offer for Penelope. But he only proposes a mutual match -without any mention of love. But a woman in love wants the same in return and refuses him. The Duke is shocked Penelope would decline his marriage offer. He also realizes (maybe too late) he doesn’t want to loose her. But what happens when scandal breaks loose and James’s dangerous and secret work with government embroils Penelope?
This book starts slowly and the author allows the reader to fall in love with her characters. Penelope is a bit of a minx. The chemistry between her and the Duke it delightful to read. Especially when she tries to find him a mate and he finds fault with every woman she finds. The reader knows he doesn’t like anyone Penelope finds because he is smitten with her! As they grow to care for each other it is fun to read them tease each other. Both are clever characters that like outsmarting each other. Their courtship is like a playful game of cat and mouse game. What makes it so charming is that both are usually so serious. I liked how they brought out the best and sometimes the worse in each other because it made it so much fun to read.

In Bed With a Rogue by Samantha Grace
Historical Romance- Sept. 2nd, 2014
4 stars
Sebastian Thorne is a Baron that has been humiliated by being left at the altar by his fiancee. He is embarrassed but mostly worried about his family. Now that he has disgraced his family again his sister’s chances of finding a suitable match are greatly reduced. Sebastian loves his sister and will do anything to protect her. He knows he needs to find another eligible woman of status that will give him and his family respectability. When he discovers the lovely and aloof widow, Lady Helena Trestwick in the shady area of London he is curious, especially when she is responsible for saving his life.
Helena has a secret. She is from a humble background. And trying to find a sister that may be trapped in a brothel. But to reveal her past would ruin her. When Sebastian pursues her and asks her about her nightly outings she fears he is blackmailing her. But Sebastian is concerned about the lady, although he wouldn’t mind her help giving his family entrance into high society. As Helena and Sebastian try to find her missing sister they find also treachery in an unexpected direction. Can they save their reputations or will they risk all for love?
This book will draw you in. At first, I thought Sebastian would be the run-of the-mill rake. But he hides his vulnerability and noble intentions. When Helena is desperate to find her sister he wants to help her, not blackmail her. (Although the rascal doesn’t mind taking advantage and asking her for help with his sister!) As they try to find Helena’s missing sister. The plot thickens and Helena and Sebastian get to know each other. I really liked how Helena gets to finally see her family after she was ‘sold’ off to her dead husband. She has many sisters and seeing their differences in station and how they have decided to live their lives is very interesting. The best sections are when Helena and Sebastian are together. They are both attractive people that find each other irresistible. Sebastian opens up to Helena and Helena finally lets herself trust a man. There are many surprising twists in Helena’s family and I hope the author will continue the story about Helena’s missing sister.
Delightful characters and an involving if troublesome family make this book an entertaining read.

This new series will thrill readers that love military romances. The Marshals are smokin’ hot! Galen knows his job and is tough and protective. Two head-strong characters fight the enemy and still find time for love in this thrilling new SOAR installment.

Bill and Trisha have entirely different backgrounds but both have felt they have had to prove themselves. But as they get to know each other they find they want to keep their secrets and their past from each other. Will they be able to trust each other and find love before they throw it all away?
I couldn’t wait to read Light Up the Night! I have never been disappointed with a SOAR romance and am utterly addicted to the action and romance in this series. Trisha is super tough, smart and talented. She is privileged but has always felt like an outcast. Although her parents were distant, she didn’t know how to be what they wanted. So she drove all her energy into being what she wanted. Now she is a woman driven by her career. But when her reckless actions may kick her out of SOAR she has to rethink her life and face the feelings of not being good enough -especially when it comes to her parents. Trisha must also decide if her relationship with Bill is something that has a future. She has always lived for the moment and the thought of something lasting scares Trisha. Bill has built his career on honor and giving his poor mother a life she where she can live in peace. He hasn’t had time for a woman in his life. But Trisha draws him and when she is there for him when he hits rock bottom he wants to be there for her, too. I enjoyed reading their very real relationship. The author does a fantastic job of creating two unique people that are learning to support and love each other. I also loved the military scenes which are far more realistic than other military romances. The authenticity and comrade of the characters makes you feel as if you are there and appreciate our military men and women. I don’t want this series to end. Please keep them coming M.L. Buchman!

Caught between fleeing to save her life or staying to save Garrett’s, Perry must make difficult decisions. But when she decides to stay and help Garrett she puts herself in terrible danger and Garrett may not be able to save her before it is too late.
This was a mesmerizing read. Who hasn’t had a secret crush? I couldn’t help sympathizing with Perry, she really loves Garrett. But just when she thinks her secret yearnings may be realized her past rears its ugly head. To save Garrett she feels she must leave. For the man that pursues her will destroy anything in his path to get her back. However, when she tries to leave Garrett won’t let he go. Now that he is becoming unstable, he needs her there to help him stay sane. Plus if he is going to go mad from blood lust, he wants to be with Perry at least once before it happens. This is one of those novels where both deserving characters are totally meant for each other. When they finally realize how much they mean to each other and are on the cusp of making it happen, they are torn apart by secrets. You want them to be together so bad! The sexual tension between them as they try to deny their feels is off the charts. Garrett is sex on a stick. I loved reading how relentless Garrett is in discovering Perry’s past and keeping her safe. I liked Perry because she was so admirable, she has suffered a great deal in her past. As you learn more about her you want her to find happiness.
Readers who love Steampunk, vampires and two self-sacrificing characters will not be able to put this book down!
