Searching for Someday by Jennifer Probst
Contemporary Romance- Nov. 26th, 2013
4 1/2 stars
Searching for Someday is the perfect book to snuggle up with on a cold winter's day. It is the first in the author's new series about three modern women who met in college and build a matchmaking business. Each is successful but can't find the right man for herself.
Kate Seymour has the magical instinct. It runs in her family line and helps the business prosper. She can tell just be touching someone who they might be compatible with. The problems is she can't find anyone for herself. And she has just about given up!
In comes an irate, if handsome man. A lawyer who is willing to sue their company because his 'fragile' sister signed up with their business and he doesn't believe matchmaking is anything but a scam. Kate doesn't like Slade Montgomery's attitude or his abrasive manner but they compromise and she agrees to show him that their company is legitimate if he will enroll in their services. The wily Slade agrees feeling he will prove them fraudulent and be able to keep an eye on his sister.
But trouble happens when Kate makes the mistake and touches Slade. She feels an immediate electric zing, which mean he is her soul mate! Kate doesn't believe this cynical man could be right for her but tries to deny it even as Slade pursues her instead of the women she throws in his way. But she soon loses her magical touch and must face the consequences. But how can the man that doesn't believe in love be her ultimate match?
Funny, entertaining and surprisingly heart felt. This book is another winner. Fans of Jennifer Probst will flock to this new series. Which does include some cameo appearances of her previous characters -sweet! Kate is an endearing character and her partners and friends are, too. I can't wait for each of them to get their own story. They all met in college where there each had their own troubles and were outcasts. I loved that they are now successful but still have those small insecurities and support each other. Slade is a powerhouse character. He is used to getting his way and has been disappointed in love. As a divorce lawyer his heart is hardened against the institution and he only sees the bad. Although he begins to care for Kate he sees it as lust and does not realize these tender feeling for love. But does he move fast when he does! It was enjoyable to read the romantic and the cynic. Both people who don't think they have a lot in common finding that they do. Slade shows his more caring and sweeter side and Kate holds firm against his persuasions. I also enjoyed how Kate must make a stand for herself and as a result show her vulnerability. Love is about risk and Kate show the ultimate courage and honesty in herself.
This was a book that readers will adore. Perfect for the romantic!

The Rogue's Proposal by Jennifer Haymore
Historical Romance -Nov. 19th, 2013
4 stars
The Rogue's Proposal is part of the author's Trent series. However, this book can easily be read alone and will guarantee that readers will want to go back and read the first book which features the seemingly cold Duke of Trent. In this book, his wild rakish brother, Lukas Hawkins finally finds love.
Lukas is reckless and self-destructive. He seems to care for no one, yet is driven to find a man that has abducted his mother. The man's name is Roger Morton. But what he does not know is that Roger Morton has a very shady past. When a beautiful widow from the merchant class finds Lukas she proposes they work together. For she has information on Roger. Roger killed her husband and is responsible for the financial losses of her father. Bent on revenge, Emma Curtis is driven to return the money that was stolen from her family and left them destitute. But she does not count on finding the wastrel Lukas so attractive! Lukas for his part can't stand not having his way with a beautiful woman. And Emma is beautiful and intelligent. As he grows to admire her he pursues her but discovers that he has become emotionally attached! For her part, Emma realizes there is more to Lukas's character that she previously thought. His tortured past only makes her love him more. But as they hunt for Roger, danger stalks and Emma soon finds herself in peril.
Erotic and highly charged, this romance has suspense, passion and drama. Roger is a villain with many unexpected tricks up his sleeve. He is a character that readers will love to hate. On the other hand, the hero, Lukas at first seems like man who lacks substance. He is happy with his reckless life. But there are reasons behind Lukas's behavior. He is actually quite a tortured character who refuses to let those who love him, care for him! It is only with Emma that he finally can open up. And it is Emma who is responsible for helping him reconnect with his family. As they hunt down the villain, there are many surprising twists which keep the story rolling. In addition to the surprising storyline, the scenes between Emma and Lukas are extra steamy. The story also includes many side plots concerning the rest of the Trent family. Readers will be intrigued by the Sam, the bastard of the family as well as the 'quiet' sister, Esme. This series will have readers greatly anticipating future books. I can't wait!

In Kelly Meding’s latest Urban Fantasy, Chimera. She again explores the Metas. Humans with supernatural powers who fight to save humanity and their sanity. Chimera is the forth in her Meta Wars Superhero series and concerns Flex AKA Renee. Renee is a blue-skinned woman who has the ability to stretch her body unnaturally.
In the last battle, Renee sustained injuries -massive burn scars, which impaired her stretching ability. Feeling nearly useless she tries to support her best friend, Trace, the new leader of the Metas. But before they can recover, they are pulled into an investigation concerning the mysterious theft of food supplies. Since the police are puzzled they believe that other supernatural humans are stealing the food and they ask help from the Metas. But what the Metas discover are young teenagers who are playing Robin Hood. As they try to get to know the wary teens they discover that they these young Metas were stolen at birth and lied to by a mysterious agent named ‘Uncle.’ Renee is dispatched to find information from one of the hoodlums suspected fathers to discover clues. But Derek believed that his son and wife were killed in a fire. As they both try to find the young Metas and their mysterious guardian they soon become endangered. Can they find and save the missing children and prevent chaos?
Kelly Meding’s books are always fascinating and unexpected. This book was no exception! Renee is a tough heroine that feels she has to hide her soft heart. Because her skin turned blue color when her powers manifested she was immediately branded an outcast. Her family and community not only rejected her but tried to kill her! Thankfully she found a home with the Metas. As a result, she is protective of them and fearless in trying to help others who are also outcasts. Unfortunately, she isn’t so good at having a friendly persona. When she meets the handsome, Derek. She is conflicted. He used his power to kill and her sense of right and wrong protests against liking him. When she realizes that not everything is black or white she is forced to grow and confront herself and her narrow views. I liked how Renee not only changes but also finds that she is valued not just for her super powers. In addition, the mystery behind the stolen children was fun to read and adds new and younger players with some interesting powers that I would love to learn more about.
Superheroes, a good mystery and a heroine with a chip on her shoulder make for a sparkling and entertaining action read.

Young and sweet, Aria never dreamed she would find such wonderful man in Navy SEAL, Dan McCullum. But Dan's work takes him away from her and the stresses on being a military wife challenge her more than she expected. But she is lucky to have a wonderful best friend named Mark. He has always been there for her. But what Aria doesn't realize is that Mark wants more and Dan is jealous. When Aria's Uncle dies, things come to a head and Aria must find a deep well of strength to find the true meaning of love.
This romance was filled with unexpected surprises. Aria transforms into a stronger person through the book. She discovers her life changing and she must adapt. When her Uncles dies she must be the primary support for her brother and with her husband often gone she must learn to be more self-reliant. I liked how Dan is encouraging. He teaches her how to protect herself. But more importantly, he lets her know that he is confident in her abilities to take care of herself. There is also action in the story the brings tension and forces Aria to reassess her past.
Young love is challenged in this moving romance.

American heiress, Harriet Redgrave can't believe her bad luck! On the way to visit her parents the ship she is on is taken over by the British. She finds the men forcefully enlisted in the British navy and she is whisked away to England! The only saving grace is that Harriet happens to be the granddaughter of an earl. The unsavory kidnappers hope to return her to her grandfather and be rewarded. However, Harriet's mother is estranged from her father. And Harriet just wants to be returned back to America. When Harriet first meets her grandfather he believes she is an imposter looking for money, but as soon as he realizes she is indeed his relation he immediately schemes to make her stay. He hires the dubious services of a Madame X. A mysterious matchmaker to help him keep Harriet in England. But independent Harriet has a mind of her own! However, despite her will to return home Harriet can't help but be attracted to the devilishly attractive Earl of Thornton, Duncan Maclachlan. Unfortunately, he wants nothing to do with heiresses!
Light-hearted and fun. This book includes not only the romance between Harriet and Duncan but another secondary romance. In fact, I felt I enjoyed the other romance a bit more! Miss Penelope Rose has been a dowdy companion without a dowry. When the devious Dowager Duchess throws away all her garments and forces her to wear clothes that she finds far too revealing, suddenly the Duke of Marchford can't keep his eyes off her. Needless to say, they both play off of each other famously. I loved how thunderstruck the Duke is by Penelope's hidden beauty- her story was bit like Cinderella. But Penelope is a Cinderella with a sharp wit. I also enjoyed the budding romance between Harriet and Duncan. Theirs was more a quiet romance. I liked how the author gave enough time in the book to show how the two grew to care for each other and know each other - it wasn't just all physical attraction. Harriet is quirky and a bit bold but Duncan likes her refreshing ways. Duncan happens to be poor but refuses to stoop so low as to marry a heiress. Imagine his surprise when he discovers the girl he likes is a heiress! The matchmaking Madame X is devious and funny -she also has been disappointed in love. I hope following books will help her heal her broken heart, too!
Amusing and fun, this Regency romance will definitely entertain.

Devilishly Wicked is devilishly delicious!
When lust demon Tristan McIntrye takes over the ultra fashionable HOT magazine, he inherits a jealous backstabbing ex-boss, a sexy human secretary and a Hellhound bent on destruction. Normally all this would be boringly normal except that his infuriating secretary, Georgia Sullivan is distracting him like hell. How can he keep Satan happy and corrupt the world when thought of her are keeping him on edge!? So he decides to get Georgia out of his system by seducing her. She is like any other woman. Once he scratches this annoying itch he will be back to his evil doing demonic ways in no time! Or will he?
Lighthearted and fun-filled, this romp will have you charmed by the zany characters. Not everyone is who they appear. Tristan is baffled by his strange attraction to his 'ordinary' secretary Georgia. He doesn't recognize that he is is love with her even if the reader does! This situation makes the story funnier since he keeps stumbling around and questioning his strange actions. Being a debonair demon who confidently and easily collect souls for Satan has been the status quo. So why can't he do the same with Georgia? Instead he finds himself helping her with her grandmother and caring about her thoughts and feelings! Georgia is also confused. She considers herself a slightly plump and average looking person. And distrusts Tristan's sudden interest. Going on dates with the suave and far too good looking Tristan makes her uncomfortable. But as his actions show that he appreciates her she slowly opens her life and heart to him. The only problem is Tristan's boss.
Sweet, infectious and humorous, this was a sheer delight!

Duke of Midnight by Elizabeth Hoyt
Historical Romance -Oct. 15th, 2013
4 stars
High drama and sympathetic characters hallmark Elizabeth's Hoyt's newest Maiden Lane book, Duke of Midnight.
When Maximus Batten, the Duke of Wakefield was a child, he experienced a terrible tragedy. His parents were murdered before his eyes in the treacherous and seedy area of St. Giles. As a result, the carefree young man suddenly became an unusually distant adult weighed down by heavy guilt. He feels he could have saved them. Now he masquerades as the infamous Ghost of St Giles. Working not only to discover the murderer of his parents but to fight the war against the evils of gin. But on his last excursion he meets and saves two ladies, one of which wants to be his wife. Unfortunately, he finds himself attached to the lady's companion, Artemis Greaves instead.
Artemis is a woman of uncommon sense and resilience. Unfortunately, she has come upon difficult times. Her father was mad and her brother has been judged insane. He resides in Bedlam. Artemis hopes to free him where he is being abused. When she pieces together clues and discovers the Duke is actually the Ghost of St. Giles, she threatens to blackmail him in return for her brother's freedom. But Maximus doesn't take threats easily and the delectable Artemis may find herself offering more.....
Full of intrigue and passion. (It reminded me a bit of Batman only set in historical England and with a lot of satisfying romance!) Artemis is a strong woman who has had to rely solely on herself. It was nice to read the 'cold' Duke unbend with her and become someone she could lean on. But Maxiumus needed her. If he hadn't met Artemis he would have settled for a marriage of convenience and never found love or peace. For Maximus only lives for duty. In fact, for most of the book he doesn't seem to really know what he wants besides finding vengeance for his parents' murder. In atonement, he has never allowed himself to want something for himself until Artemis comes on stage to tempt him! But while I enjoyed their romance, I found the Duke's blind and talented sister utterly intriguing. As well as Artemis's 'mad' brother. He disappears and the reader wonders what he mischief he is up to. I also liked that the writer tells us more about the mysterious swordsman Sir Stanley and how he trained all the Ghost of St. Giles. While some loose end are tied up many more left for future books. I am especially hopeful that the Duke's blind sister gets her well deserved love story.
Breathtaking suspense and fascinating character, this book will sweep you away!

Lady in Red by Marie Claremont
Historical Romance -Oct. 1st, 2013
4 stars
Lady in Red in the second in the author's dramatic Mad Passions series. This book can be read by itself. The first book in the series features a friend of the heroine in this novel.
In Lady in Red, Lady Mary Darrel is running away from her evil father. He imprisoned her in an insane asylum. Where she was mentally and physically brutalized. Alone and afraid, she seeks the only woman that can help her. A Madame in a whorehouse who knew Mary's mother before she mother died. But Mary's father is a Duke. He wealthy and far reaching. And he wants Mary punished for reasons only known to himself. While the Madame wants to aid her, she quickly realizes that her establishment will be the first place that Mary's powerful father will look to find her. She finds a wealthy man to 'protect' her. His name is Edward Barrons, the Duke of Fairleigh. But Mary must decide if she can tolerate another man's hands on her after her physical abuse in the asylum. However, she is surprised when she finds she can open up to him. She soon finds herself revealing her tawdry and painful past. As a result, Edward does not pressure her but instead helps her become more confident. And he encourages her to plot revenge against her father. But Edward is he also troubled by his past and finds shame in his heritage. Can two such tortured people find love?
Emotionally stirring and dark. The heroine has been brutalized and raped by her captures. But Mary's will to survive is strong. With the aid of the Madame and Edward, Mary transforms. The author brings up the subject of revenge and if it really can heal old wounds. As the characters try to face the demons of their past they also bond through their suffering. I liked that all the characters find their own inner strength and become more compassionate people. Even Edward's mysterious friend. The only downside for me were Edward's inner doubts, I wanted him to fight for Mary. Sometimes I felt he was making excuses for himself not to find happiness. Also, Mary's inner turmoil and suffering may be too much for readers looking for a lighthearted read. But readers looking for an emotional roller coaster or that enjoy gothic novels will definitely find this new series a treat.

Spy's Honor by Amy Raby
Paranormal Romance -Oct. 1st, 2013
4 stars
Spy's Honor is the second in the author's Heart's and Hero's series about a fantasy land rules by magic, deception and avarice.
As a royal princess, adopted by her controlling uncle the Emperor of Kjall, Rhianne's life is at the whim of others.
Rhianne is sweet, naive, and compassionate. All qualities that have made her life difficult in the cruel politics of the Kjall court. Her only true friend is her cousin, Lucien, the heir to the throne. But Lucien is reviled by his father since he is perceived of as weak. Although Lucien tries to aid her, the Emperor's dominion makes any help very minute. Soon Rhianne discovers that she has been 'sold' to a high ranking general as a war prize. Unfortunately, the general is controlling and wants to tame her. Once married, she and the general are supposed to move to the country of Mosar after he defeats it. Resigned to her fate, she decides to learn the language and culture of Mosar. When she meet a Mosar gardener named Janto on the palace grounds she asks him to teach her the language. But what Rhianne does not know is the humble gardener he is a spy trying to rescue a comrade who has gone silent. He also happens to be the Crown Prince of Mosar! As Rhianne and Janto become closer so does a quiet blossoming love. But danger in the court and the murder or Janto's parents beings chilling ramifications.
In comparison to the first book in the Heart and Thrones series this book seems a bit less realistic and slower paced. I never felt that it was quite plausible that the Crown Prince would be willing to risk his life in such a dangerous situation. But if the reader ignores the improbability of some of the situations, it is a highly entertaining read. My favorite parts of the book are learning about the young heir, Lucien (He is the hero in the first book.) and the transformation in Rhianne as she learns the truth about her uncle's harsh regime. In the palace, Rhianne is unaware of poverty or how the regular Kjall citizen live. She is also naive about war and terribly her country pillages those that they conquer. As Rhianne learns about her culture she tries to help those who do not her privileges but with mixed consequences. Since she is also brought up to obey her elders, specifically her uncle, she starts to questions his ability to rule. She also has the courage to rebel against her impending marriage to the ruthless general. Janto gives her insight into the realities of her kingdom and the harm it has done to other countries. He also is a man or morality -in sharp contrast to the men she has grown up with. As Rhianne sees finds more clarity, she risks more, for love and justice. She is a rare heroine of insight, fortitude and kindness.

Season for Scandal by Theresa Romain
Historical Romance -Oct 1st, 2013
4 stars
An atypical romance where a woman in Regency times dares to wish for more, her husband's love.
Edmund Ware, Baron Kirkpatrick is greatly admired for his kindness, generosity and sweet nature. When he sees his childhood friend, Jane Tindall about to be disgraced he saves from scandal by proposing marriage. But the problem is that while Edmund means to aid his dear friend purely from kindness and the need for a wife. Jane Tindall has been in love with Edmund for years. When she inadvertently tells him on their wedding night that she loves him. She is embarrassed. And she also realizes, she wants more. She immediately leaves him! Edmund asks her to return but it is too late. Scandal prevails. To make matters worse, an evil man from Edmund's past comes back to England to torment him. Will Jane and Edmund find real love together or are the odds against them?
The hero in the book really steals the story. Edmund is the perfect beta male with a little of alpha thrown in, too! But underneath it all he respects Jane. I definitely fell in love with Edmund. He seeks to rise above the dubious examples his parents set. Plus his tormented past drew me. As he tries to atone for crimes he did not commit, he hides the person he feels he truly is from the outside world. On the other hand, Jane is all brashness, not quite thinking things through and constantly in trouble. Jane is a sore trial to Edmund. But he is patient and even grows to love her. He needs her fresh ingenuity to give him a kick in the backside. As the book moves forward I enjoyed getting to know the real Edmund behind the mask of politeness. The only pall on the story was the heroine. While Edmund maybe overly staid and serious, she is impetuous and often was immature. It seemed as if she needed to grow up to deserve him but didn't quite get there by the end of the story.
This a sweet romance where readers will be guaranteed to fall in love with the hero.

This is a fantastic series that is only getting better. The plot has many intricacies and several fascinating characters that at least two or three will keep you reading further. Krysta and Etienne make a good team -once Krysta realizes he isn't the 'bad' guy! This series reminded me of Alexandra Ivy's popular Guardians series. Fans of her books will be guaranteed to love this series! Krysta is a valiant heroine who is bent on killing the vampires that ruined her life. But she doesn't think about how her revenge may affect others. When Etienne spies her and rescues her from certain death she is by turns defiant but also extremely attracted to the ancient Immortal. For those that have not read the series, the Immortals protect the world from the mindless vampires. However, their history is shrouded in mystery. Especially their omnipotent leader Seth and his second David. This book reveals more about them and a 'cousin' from their past named Zach who happens to have wings and saves the luscious Immortal Lisette. Zach's storyline particularly interested me since he seems to be hopelessly drawn to Lisette enough to reveal his identity. I hope the author delves into Zach more! Readers will also want to read more about Seth and David and the secrets they hold. This was a stirring novel that will make readers come back for more.
Excitement, passion and secrets make this book irresistible!

4 1/2 stars
Bound an Determined is a reissue under Shayla Black's real name Shelley Bradley. I read the original publication when it first came out and this book seems to be more steamy than the first. It is also more lighthearted and humorous than her current books written under Shayla Black.
Kerry Sullivan is sweet, naive and unaware of her beauty. When the unthinkable happens and her brother is accused of embezzling money from the bank. She is determined to prove his innocence. Unfortunately, the only man that she thinks can help her won't even speak with her! His name is Rafael Dawson and he is a genius in the computer world. And since her brother was accused of stealing money through his computer station, Kerry want Rafael to him to discover the truth. Since her pleas to the heartless fiend go unanswered, Kerry rashly decides to kidnap Rafael. But Rafael is not like any computer geek she's ever seen before -he is flat out gorgeous. Hell on her libido, especially when his kisses her. When he makes a deal with her, time in bed with her in exchange for looking into her brother's investigation, Kerry agrees. But neither is prepared for the hot, unbarred attraction that flares between them. As they get closer to the truth, the real embezzler gets nervous and Rafael and Kerry may have to run for their lives. But is their attraction for each other real or only due to the 'intense' circumstances?
Steamy and sweet. This book will utterly charm readers. Kerry is a virgin who is unaware of her sexy self. She think she is an ugly duckling and when the super hot Rafael proposes some steamy hot lovin' she can't help but be flattered despite the circumstances. Plus she wants him just as badly! But Kerry is inexperienced not just in sex but in relationships and Rafael is more guarded than most men. Rafael has never wanted close attachments which would make him vulnerable. However, there is just something about Kerry that makes him want to try a relationship with her. As they try to assess what the heck they are doing the investigation behind the real embezzler makes the book interesting. It is not just thrown in like most book to 'add' to the story. The reader will also be caught up in the mystery. The scenes between Rafael and Kerry sizzle from the first meeting and Shayla Black exceeds by expectations when they finally did 'get' together. I liked how entertaining and sexy this book was and I hope Shayla Black will write more with this 'wicked' sense of humor.
Repackaged and even better. More please!!

Lovers of Steampunk and vampires will find this a delightful new series.
As a vampire, Lynch is the master of the Guild which deals with thief-catchers and trackers. His next mission is to find the mysterious Mercury. A brazen human who fights against vampires and dares to fight for human rights. Part human and part machine Rosalind has tried to lead humans toward freedom. But a bombing by extremists makes the humanist movement more tenuous. Even as she tries to keep human united she is hunted by Lynch. For she is really Mercury. In their last confrontation, she seduced Lynch and left him paralyzed. She was unable to kill him. But by leaving him alive she has incurred his wrath. His hunt for her is relentless. It has become personal and deadly. Rosalind complicates matters when decides to go under cover and is hired as Lynch's new secretary! She is determined to get close to the enemy and find her lost brother.
Lynch has never failed. He is driven to find the criminal, Mercury. Although he knows she is evil and violent he also desires her. But he is confused by the strong feelings he also has for his mysterious new secretary! Lynch hasn't wanted a woman since his wife died and he can't understand his conflicting desires for two different people. As pressure from above pushes him to discover Mercury, secrets and lies keep them apart. Can they bridge the impossible gap and find love?
This was a fast paced, entertaining read. Rosalind has a lot of responsibility and she is torn between her desire for human rights, finding her brother and a vampire she has grown to respect and love. This deep conflict and the added tension of vampire haters makes the decisions Rosalind must make difficult. I liked that Rosalind is more developed than most heroines. Her sense of justice and strong will make this story immersing. Lynch also has a trouble past and the two of them are very engaging to read. Their verbal sparring and the sexual tension drive this book. Each character has a surprisingly 'lighter' side to their personalities that I really felt that they would not be able to reveal to another person. And although Lynch is supposed to be an almost mythical hunter, Rosalind matched and even surpassed him! The best sections were reading their 'hate' turn to love. As they were more able to trust and become vulnerable I became addicted. I liked how they were able to work together through their obstacles and save their world. I was expecting an adventurous romp but this was also a surprisingly deep and emotional book.
Complex characters, tragedy and paranormal fun make this a great read.

In Tempt the Stars by Karen Chance
Urban Fantasy -Oct. 1st, 2013
4 stars
In Tempt the Stars, Karen Chance's heroine, Cassie Palmer, is a powerful seer and time traveler extraordinaire. But her semi-trailed skills are poor defense against her enemies.
In the last book, Hunt the Moon, Cassie's protector, the infernally stubborn and enigmatic Pritkin sacrificed his life to save Cassie. In exchange, he was sent to the Underworld where his father wants Pritkin to become the heir he envisions. A life that Pritkin hates. In a desperate bid to save the man who has become important to her, Cassie must travel through time searching for a way to bring Pritkin back. As Cassie stumbles through various mishaps and mayhem she bands together a reluctant party to rescue Pritkin. A trip the small group may not return from. But will she be able to find Pritkin? And what happens if he doesn't want to return with her?
As usual, chaos follows Cassie where ever she goes. But usually when she stumbles she has someone there who is steady and efficient to catch her and 'balance' her. That person has usually been Pritkin. While this book has a lot going on, it is only when Pritken appears in the story that it becomes engaging. The interplay between Pritken and Cassie are what I look forward to when reading this series. Even interesting characters like, the vampire senator, Mircea. Mircea does not make an appearance. So it is only until the second half of the book where things really start to pick up. (However, I did enjoy reading about the picky and cranky Casanova.) The addition of endless time traveling also made the book bit confusing at times. While I enjoyed this novel, compared to the rest of the series this was not one of my favorites. The cliffhanger at the end was also a bit discouraging, since the last book also ended with a cliffhanger. While this ending wasn't as bad as the last book, I wanted a true resolution. Plus, many questions about Cassie's mother and her court are left for the next book. Karen Chance is one of my favorite authors but since it will probably be approximately a year and half for the next installment, it will be a long, long wait.
Pritkin is the star of the story but when he is absent the book drags.

Fatal Strike by Shannon McKenna
Romantic Suspense –Sept 24th, 2013
4 stars
In Shannon McKenna’s latest erotic thriller, two soulmates finally find each other despite terrible odds.
Lara Kirk is a famous sculptor that has been abducted and is being ‘experimented’ on to increase her psychic abilities by a cruel madman named Greaves. Tortured and near death her only sanctuary in the unforgiving facility is when she zones out into a dream state. There she meets an imaginary man who she has hot, ‘dream’ sex with. Although she knows it is only in her mind, Lara clings to her phantom lover for her sanity. But what she doesn't know is that her mystery man is actually real and also has psychic powers! His name is Miles Davenport and he is very disturbed by his erotic dreams about a woman who is dead! He thinks he is slowly going mad. But what happens when he realizes that Lara is actually alive? And what will he do to find her?
Exciting and action-packed. This thriller features a terrifying and diabolical villain that is driven to increase his psychic powers and control others. He sees others as expendable and will stop at nothing to keep his prize experiment, Lara. As Miles and Lara desperately try to hide from a man with such a wide reach. They must come to terms with their psychic relationship and discover if what they feel is actually real. Lara is vulnerable, courageous and resilient. Although she suffers severe trauma, it is Miles who seems to have more difficulty seeing them together. He believes that Lara only wants him because he has rescued her. Miles wants a lot more. He needs to be wanted for himself, not as an unrealistic ‘dream’ lover. On the run, their sizzling attraction and uncertain feelings make for riveting reading, especially because the villain is one readers will love to hate. Greaves is a truly despicable individual who sees people as pieces he can use and only wants to exploit Lara's psychic abilities.
A truly evil villain and two worthy main characters make for an explosive and sexy read.

Soul Survivor by Katina Collins
Paranormal Romance -Sept 24th, 2013
4 stars
Soul Survivor is the second in the author's Soul Stripper series. Where the heroine, an angel turned succubus finds love but must give him up.
Monica is a succubus who has given up trying to be good. But when her ex-lover, Drew and his new girlfriend (a detective) ask her to help with a serial murderer. She reluctantly agrees. On the way to Salt Lake City to investigate, Monica finds herself targeted. She is attacked on the flight and must save herself. She soon discovers that the murders maybe linked to her past. But she is troubled by her feelings for her ex and her need to 'collect' souls as a succubus. Can she solve the murders and find a way to live with herself?
The Soul Stripper series reminds me of Richelle Mead's Georgina Kincaid series -except way more steamy! Monica wants to be good again but when Drew rejects her for his ex-girlfriend, she falls back to her old ways. The experience also sours her on life again. However, the sexual tension and secret longing that flows between Drew and Monica make their love bitter sweet and even difficult to read. I found the best sections in the story concerned Monica's mysterious history . How she became a succubus and what she was like as an angel. These secrets directly relate to the murders and will keep the reader spellbound trying to learn more. Monica has a lot to deal with and more than one sexy man vying for her attentions. Warning: this book also contains some explicit scenes since Monica is a succubus.
Angst, a fascinating heroine with a shadowed past and mystery make this a book a sure fire winner.

Nicole Martin will never forget the terrible night her father’s vampire servants rose and killed everyone in her family. She was the lone survivor. As a young child, she was sent away to her aunt in Europe were she was determined to escape memories of the vicious vampires. However, she still feels their treatment is inhumane and wants to find a way to free them from servitude. For Nicole remembers the one vampire she loved, her gentle nanny who was viciously killed by her vampire mate. Now, Nicole works as a scientist to protect humans from vampires. She is an expert in the vampire physiology. But her father’s will forces her to return to the United States and take over his company. However, she is determined to sell the profitable sections that sell vampires as human servants. Unfortunately, Nicole’s position makes her a target of vampires and those on the company board. When Riker, a vampire named from her past decides to threaten her but instead end up kidnapping her, complications arise. Especially since both find themselves attracted to each other despite their differences. As vampires fight for survival and resentment of humans arise Nicole and Riker’s relationship becomes tenuous.
This was a suspenseful paranormal romance. The vampires are deadly, dangerous and desperate. But humans rule their world. While vampires have superior strength they are outnumbered and living on the fringes. Vampires want more and taking Nicole, an heiress and owner of a company that sells vampires as is a coupe. They hope to use her but they hate what she represents. Nicole is fair game constantly with the underground vampires and constantly under threat. Being stuck with vampires who could easily kill gives her and the reader a feeling of paranoia. Especially since Riker, her supposed savior is vacillating between desiring her and hating her. But Nicole’s honor and quiet kindness wins over many of the vampires. However a constant threat hangs over Nicole and which makes this book extremely tense. This adds to the tightly wound passion between Riker and Nicole. While Nicole is an easy character to love, Riker is all hard edges. He is a violent vampire but Nicole’s kindness really softens him. I like how it gave his character more dimensions. I particularly liked the mystery behind attempts on Nicole’s life and the tension concerning her debilitating disease. As the start of a new series I can’t wait to read more the author has in store for us!
This new paranormal series promises to be an action-packed and exciting.

Unfortunately, Elijah is set to prove he can live solely as an artist - without his family's support. And Jenny's new found inspiration moves her to decide to leave for Paris where she can pursue her art. But matchmaking parents who want their children settled are a force to be reckoned with ....
This unconventional romance will quickly immerse the reader. Poor Jenny is a frustrated artist who feels trapped by her unassuming and titled life. She longs for freedom, no only as an artist but also in her everyday life. With Elijah, he actually encourages her to be herself and express her feelings. But Elijah must also face the decisions in his past. His stubbornness to prove to his family that he is right may cost him love. Both find a freedom and mutual understanding in each other that is rare. I felt that both characters were outcasts to families that loved them. When they find each other it was as if they had discovered a quiet sanctuary. I especially liked how Jenny becomes more liberated and daring. And is surprised when she finds out that her family supports her in her ambitions! The only part of the story that I felt was out of character for Jenny is that I didn't agree with Jenny's decision at the end. Why not have it all? Somehow, I felt she had settled since she has led such a long life of secret longing.
Two lost, artistic souls find a haven and true love in this latest, heartwarming romance by Grace Burrowes.

Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Paranormal Romance -Sept. 3rd, 2013
4 stars
Styxx is Sherrilyn Kenyon's latest Dark Hunter novel. It is a thick book and it is long read. I thought Acheron would be her major achievement in her Hunter series but this book has more surprises and even more depth. While Acheron has always been the hero of her series, Styxx has always been the villain. Readers don't know much about him, which made this book all the more revealing and fascinating. I didn't know what to expect.
Styxx is a human prince. The problem is that his twin brother, Acheron is not. His father the king reviles his brother for he represents his wife being unfaithful to him. The king takes Styx's brother and locks him away to where Acheron is secretly abuses. Unfortunately, Styxx has the power to feel any pain his brother feels. Although Styxx is mainly human, his father is still suspicious of him. He treats Styxx with love and hatred. Unfortunately, Styxx's sister hates him all the time. She thinks he is responsible for his twins ' confinement.' She makes his life miserable. Styxx's only support is his uncle, or so he thinks. Feeling powerless and alone, only his manservant is loyal. That is until he meets a beautiful, young, blind woman in the forest. But unknown to him, she is actually a goddess whose will is bend on destroying him. Only she does not know his real identity...
It takes a great author to turn a villain into a hero and make the hero look a little like a petty villain. Those who are huge fans of Acheron might not like how Acheron behaves in this book -but it does make him more human. I instantly was sympathetic to the mysterious Styxx. His struggles and his suffering were difficult to read (many scenes I had to skim over). Styxx is a noble guy who tries to do the right thing but finds no one but his manservant who supports. When he finds the love of his life, he discovers that she is actually a goddess who is working to kill him! As a prince, Styxx has life of upheaval, living on the edge as his father loves then hates him. His life is literally at the whim of others. He finds that he cannot trust anyone but himself. Cursed to suffer his brother's pain but when he tries to help Acheron he is violently rebuffed and even humiliated. I thought this was an amazing tale. However, like Sherrilyn Kenyon's Acheron book, I found I could not read the abuses the hero suffered. even though it made the payoff at the end sweeter. I did like the heroine in this story seemed more or a match to Styxx ane more worthy than Acheron's wife. Those will love this series will not be disappointed.

Makayla dropped out of pre-med school and is trying to figure out what she wants in life. She is a natural healer and helping people is important to her. But until she decides her future, her school loans have crippled her financially So she lives in a crowded house to save money and works for minimum wage in a medical facility. She is barely squeaking by. To try to make extra cash she decides to help a friend sell tickets to a dangerous and illegal underground martial arts club. But soon finds herself in trouble when she tries to stop a man from entering without buying a ticket. A man who is actually the owner of the club! His name is Torment and when he meets Makayla he is captivated by her soft heart and `persuades' her to watch. The problem? Makayla abhors violence and has difficulty watching. But when one of the competitors is injured Makayla uses her medical training to help him. Torment immediately wants to hire her to provide emergency medical help. The trouble is that he also tempts her in other ways! But Torment has a mysterious alternate identity and Makayla isn't sure if she fits in his life. Can their relationship work or will Makayla's spiraling out-of-control life get in the way?
This romance was pretty unrealistic and almost certainly improbable. especially Torment's life. I would definitely classify this romance as fantasy and advise readers to just enjoy the ride. This book packs a lot of heat and has an engrossing `seedy' side which reminds me of the urban fantasy genre. Torment is mysterious and his pursuit of Makayla is very sudden and intense. I like that Makayla's soft, giving nature contrasts the rest of the cynical and rough characters. At first, I couldn't see her in this `darker' environment but as I read further I understood her inner strength. She has to protect and help those with her singular insight and compassion. Something that there is little of in the merciless underground. The contrast between Makayla's softer gentler personality and the tough business makes her seem even more fragile and unique. I wasn't sure if I believed Torment's relationship with Makayla but I did find it entertaining and sexy to read.
Those who love stories where the hero rushes to save the sweet heroine will enjoy this book and find the brutal world of underground fascinating as it is primitive!

The sexual tension between these two characters is off the charts! I was flipping pages like a madwoman! Remy has a dark charisma that will be irresistible to readers. Raw and untamed -he packs loads of sexual appeal. Readers will want to be Brooke. I haven't read a tortured hero with this much animal magnetism in quite a while. I liked that he recognizes the goodness and steadiness in Brooke and values her. Brooke is a calming oasis. Practical, decent and kind. She is an admirable heroine that fits Remy perfectly. High Passion is about a woman of privilege who finally finds her own way of life until her past tries to drag her back. This book is the second in a thrilling series about passionate heroes who rescue those in dangerous situations.
Alisha Bailey was brought up in the lap of luxury and power but it came at a price- her freedom. When she finally has the chance for independence she takes it and rejects her family's wealth. She is determined to make it on her own and finds a 'home' with an elite rescue team called Lifeline. But her past comes to haunt her when her father's right hand man, Vincent, comes into her life. He wants Alisha for his own. He thinks by marrying Alisha, he will gain her shares in her father's company. And control over the company. Alisha refuses Vincent's advances and finds herself using her team mate, sexy Devon Lebland as a barrier. She tells Vincent Devon is her boyfriend. But Alisha doesn't count on the banked passion between her and Devon. And what starts as a trumped up boyfriend becomes more than real. But Vincent won't take not for an answer and he isn't above threatening those she loves to get his way....
This series is exciting to read. The rescue team scenes are extremely intense. I loved how the members push their bodies to the maximum. Their amazing their ability to help those in need makes these books exhilarating. Alisha is an interesting character. She is trying to find her own way and with the Lifeline team she finally feels that she has accomplished something worth while. But her past bring up problems that make her face what is really important. Especially since the father she secretly wants approval from doesn't believe in her. I liked how Alisha found a new family in Lifeline, particularly with Devon. She finally lets down her guard to let them love her back. I also liked that Vincent pushed them together faster. In the first book in the series, Devon and Alisha's sexual tension is palatable but they never act on them. Finally, reading them get together and finding a deep appreciating love for each other was highly satisfying.

Soon they discover themselves trying to finish his mission and finding an unexpected passion. But Kip has avoided relationships and is De Anne strictly the relationship type. Will issues from his past and angry Chinese soldiers keep them apart?
Hot, hot, hot! Kit is suave, dashing and handsome. Too bad his is commitment phobic! DeAnne is a plucky officer that is well meaning. She finds herself too attracted to Kip despite her 'no marines' rule. She knows from her parents’ marriage that marines make terrible relationship material. But DeAnne is determined to keep Kip safe and if that means sticking with him like glue then so be it. But Kip is used to woman throwing themselves at him and he is disconcerted that DeAnne is okay with hot, steamy sex and no commitment. Even if he really doesn't want a relationship! But Kip finds that DeAnne is something truly special, maybe he can buck his own rules and convince her he is worth staying with.
I really liked Kip. He has loads of testosterone, is a bit reckless but totally charming. Even DeAnne who has sworn off marines finds she is happy to have a fling with him. And once he makes up his mind, Kip can change even the most stubborn mind. DeAnne is the model officer. But her underlying reason for her job is to help people. And finding Kip without resources calls to her protective instincts. I liked how Kip and Deanne supported each other and realized how good they work together. The sexual tension from their first meeting had me hotly anticipating them finally getting ' together.' And boy was it worth the wait.
This was a sexy, fast-paced romance that will leave readers breathless.

This book is the third in the Geek Girl series and followers of the series will enjoy this playful romp. Avery is all that a hero could be. Honest, noble, long suffering and with a heart of gold that always seem to melt around Leah. I liked that he can't seem to help himself from coming to her rescue again and again. But he thinks he isn't good enough for Leah. Leah is a bit clueless and doesn't at first realize the prize she has in Avery. I liked her upbeat spirit but was bothered by how much she curses! It sort of turned me off and made her a bit `vulgar.' After a while, I wanted to clean her potty mouth with soap. In comparison, Avery seems very refined. But Avery needed Leah to shake him up and her spunky attitude does give a lot of laughs.
A perfect hero and a wild heroine make for amusing reading.

When Lily's mother is suddenly attacked and her memories erased, her mother can no longer remember her life beyond twelve years old. When more victims loose their memory the pressure builds to find the culprit. Lily must find out why and how before it is too late.
This was a spectacular read. I especially enjoyed reading about the bratty ‘twelve year old’ mother! Since Lily’s mother can’t remember her adulthood and acts like a child, Lily comes to understand her mother more. Specifically why her mother who lacked affection and love for her daughter. I was very sympathetic to both Lily and her mother. As neither seems quite able to bridge the gap between them. Rule is as sexy as ever and a great support for Lily. Lily's character reminds me J.D Robb's main character Eve Dallas except Lily has magical powers and a very wacky family! Unfortunately, the brokenhearted mother thinks that Alice is responsible for the death of her wayward son. But Alice was an unsuspecting victim of the woman’s son.

When she finds herself again jobless after being harassed, she just wants to eat and enjoy the company of her cute dust bunny Houdini. But the day gets worse when two muggers threaten her. While she is perfectly capable of protecting herself the sudden appearance of a mysterious rescuer arrives. But what is most startling is that he can see through her invisibility!

When he discovers that she is being harassed, he offers her a marriage of convenience in order to protect her with his name. But can he convince Alice to make it a more permanent position when she only thinks he wants to use her?
This is another entertaining installment in her Rainshadow series. As usual, the precocious and utterly charming dust bunnies steal the show. Cute and ferocious, Houdini is a great guardian for the beleaguered Alice. He warms up her spirits and is very solicitous. I also liked that Alice is courageous and upbeat. I admired her character; even though she is being pursued and threatened she doesn't become bitter or depressed. She still tries to help people and thinks the best of them. Drake immediately recognizes Alice’s her kind nature and tricks her into a marriage of convenience. When he knows there are several others ways a wealthy man could protect her from harassment instead of marriage. But Drake wants to slowly show her how worthy he is of her love. Alice and Drake seemed to perfectly complement each other. This book was magical, sexy and infectious fun. I also liked reading about an obsessive woman from his past comes to haunt him. 4 stars
In Dark Lycan, Christine Feehan continues her popular Carpathian/vampire series but with a twist.
Fenris Dalka is a Carpathian male who has lived as an outcast from his own kind. For Fen’s blood is contaminated. While on a hunt to kill a murderous villain, Fen was forced to feed from a lycan who was also hunting the same dangerous man. But taking the lycan’s blood transformed Fen into a hybrid or Sange rou. As a Sange rou , Fen is stronger and more lethal. But Fen is inexplicably drawn to return to his Carpathian homeland where he can’t seem to stay away from a grungy bar. It is there that a seemingly young and innocent woman appears and then vanishes. When he overhears three men from the bar discussing they want to follow her when she leaves, Fen decides to protect her. However, he is amazed to discover that she can easily take care of herself. For Tatijana is a powerful Carpathian from the mythical Dragonseeker line.
And Fen is shocked to learn Tatijana attracts him because she is his lifemate! But complications arise when a mysterious pack of lycans arrive. Tatijana, Fen and Fen’s brother Dimitri must try to save the humans. In the process, they are aided by another lycan named, Zev. But this pack is different than any other, it is led by another hybrid, Sange rou like Fen and he is extremely powerful. As all four fight for their lives they soon come to attention of the Carpathians in the area. Fen must reveal his contaminated blood. And although Fen wants Tatijana he feels his blood will endanger and taint her. Can they overthrow the rogue Sange rou, bond as lifemates and find acceptance with the Carpathians?
Dark Lycan is a compelling, deep read. Christine Feehan’s Carpathian society is very developed. I enjoyed reading familiar and well-loved characters return to address the threat of a powerful and destructive Sagne rou in their mist. I liked how they treated Fen and were respectful of his abilities. Tatijana is a heroine who has suffered under the torture of her power seeking relative. Encased in ice until recently she is curious about the world and wary of men. Her legendary lineage makes her very powerful and I enjoyed exploring the Carpathian world through her eyes. I found her ability to shift into a beautiful blue dragon and her fearless in battle was fascinating reading.
But Fen’s character steals the book. His years of misery, feeling an outcast from the people he has protected weigh on him. But he does not succumb to self pity. I liked how he still upholds justice and protects those who are weaker. His honorable nature even when he is almost friendless makes him an admirable hero. He is not bitter and even tries to stop Tatijana from bonding with him because he fears to contaminate her with his blood and make her an outcast, too. I also found Fen’s brother Dimtri a loyal, courageous hero. He stays with his brother and aids him on his quest even if it means that he sufferers, too. I was excited to read tantalizing glimpses of a powerful Carpathian female who reaches out to Dimitri to heal from a great distance. I can’t wait to read Dimitri’s story!
Moving, mystical and entertaining. This new series in the Carpathian books is yet another winner from Christina Feehan.

Uncommon Passion is the second in Anne Calhoun’s her erotic contemporary romance series. This book was surprising gem that readers won’t want to put down!
In this story, a daring yet innocent young woman escapes her strict religious world to enter the exciting ‘normal’ one. Since becoming a free woman, Rachel Hill works on the Silent Circle Farm and makes a quiet living while contemplating school. When there is Bachelor auction to fund a Harvest Co-op, Rachel finds herself helping but is irritated by the arrival of a rude officer named Ben Harris.
Ben wants to no part of an auction. Selling himself, even for a good cause annoys him. But he is standing in for another office as a favor. His bad attitude intrigues Rachel and she finds herself bidding on him and winning! However, Ben is not the type to settle down or care about a woman’s feelings. Rachel finds him the type of person she wants to help her remove her virginity. Soon they discover they can’t keep their hands off of each other. One day becomes two, and then it seems they have a weekly ‘fling.’ But Ben realizes that sweet Rachel brings feeling he thought long dead. He must face issues with his bigoted father before he can heal. But Rachel surprises Ben when she informs him that their purely sexual relationship isn’t enough! She wants more and is willing to find someone who can give what she deserves. Can Ben shape up or will he give up one woman in a million?
This was an unusually good romance. I only wished I had read it slower so I could have savored it more! I liked that neither Rachel nor Ben are looking for love or a real relationship. They just want hot, unbarred sex! Their chemistry is off the charts. Rachel is a caring, kind and quiet person. But I loved how uninhibited and unafraid Rachel became. It was liberating to read her find empowerment (sexually speaking and in everyday circumstances). I liked how content and independent she became. Rachel was a wonderful heroine who takes life by the horns and doesn’t let go. But she also knows what she wants and while Ben is a decent guy, he has issues that are unresolved. She knows she deserves someone who is able to give her what she needs. I liked that she surprises Ben with her insight and is willing to stand up for herself and call Ben out when he is behaving badly. I wish authors wrote more heroines like her! This is a steamy book. Readers will feel invested in the characters; I even got a little teary eyed at the end.
Surprisingly emotional, blindingly sexy, this romance features a one of a kind heroine that will steal the heart of any reader.

No Reservations by Stephanie Julian
Contemporary Romance –Sept, 3rd, 2013
4 stars
No Reservations is the second in Stephanie Julian’s erotic series about missing, magical jewelry. The lost pieces are supposed to help the original family members find their true mate. In the first book, a brooch found by the heroine leads her to love. In this book, her best friend, Kate Song finds a ring which also belong to the same family.
When Kate meets Tyler Golden, she can’t stop thinking of him. Tyler and his brother decide they would like Kate to design lingerie for a boutique at their spa. But when Tyler meets Kate to talk business he has more on his mind than hiring the sexy woman before him. He is shocked by his visceral reaction to Kate and finds himself asking her out. Soon they find themselves heating up the sheets! But Tyler has been mourning the loss of the woman he loved for years. His old fiancée was fragile and accepting of his demanding work and attempted to appease his dominant side in bed. Tyler knows that Kate is uninitiated to BDSM. He is afraid his preferences will scare Kate, too. But Kate is curious, just not sure how far she want to go. As their relationship becomes more heated Tyler soon realizes that he wants more than just sex with Kate but can she completely accept him?
This was a sizzling romance. (Warning, contains ménage scene.) Tyler and Kate are instantly attracted to each other and both want to explore each other but are a bit frightened. Tyler is afraid of rejection of his sexual preferences. Kate is scared to unleash her wilder side. But luckily, both respect and care for each other. They each have weighty decisions to make that will affect their relationship and how committed they are. Tyler has difficulty with his playboy father and often sickly mother. Their troubled marriage affected his view on relationships. And he shies away from commitment. But with Kate he starts to feel he can be himself. Kate has also struggled since she had to give up college after her mother died. She dreams of designing her own clothes, not working as a seamstress. When a big break from an old teacher comes up Kate must make hard choices. One that may take her away from Tyler. I liked that Kate takes charge of her life and even her relationship with Tyler. This book will get readers hooked with its scorching beginning but keep them with the appealing characters.
