The Prince and I by Karen Hawkins
Historical Romance -Aug. 25th, 2015
4 stars
Prince Max Romanovin is back from battle, a changed man. The death of his best friend from combat, lies like a dead weight to his soul. But his interfering grandmother has demanded he escort her trip to the highlands to visit the Earl of Louse. However, along the way they are held up and their money taken. Infuriated and humiliated by being caught unaware Max is determined to find the culprits and punish them for scaring his frail grandmother and besmirching his honor. But he doesn’t count on finding the real bandit so alluring....
Lady Murian’s husband, Robert, was murdered by the Earl of Louse. But she can’t prove it. So she lives in near poverty. Conscious of supporting her faithful staff to support, she takes revenge by stealing from the Earl and his friends. However, her latest adventure places her in a sticky situation when the prey becomes the hunter. Murian is attracted to Max but does not trust him. After all, he has been invited by her enemy, the Earl to the highlands. Besides she doesn’t have time to be distracted by a handsome foreigner, she must find clues in Robert’s journal to right the injustice done by the murderous Earl! But Max and his men are bent on helping her and those she loves, can her heart resist?
Lady Murian is a strong heroine trying to avenge her husband. Reckless and courageous, lovers of highland romances will adore this heroine. She feels she must take care of those around her and sacrifices much to help them. Max is reliable, honorable and extremely stable -something Murian didn’t have in her dead husband. Plus he is funny and a seductive lover. So Murian finds her heart falling for him. But knows she has nothing in return for man that has power, looks and wealth. But Max has fallen for Murian. He is clever enough to know he must help her solve her ex-husband’s death for her to be free to be with him. Max’s grandmother is mischievous and interfering and is definitely the star of the book. She wants what is best for Max, even when he doesn’t see it. And isn’t above using her ‘witchy’ powers to manipulate those around her. Since there are more Romanovins and the grandmother is very protective I can’t wait to read if she will use her wiles to see them married, too!

Luck Be a Lady by Meredith Duran
Historical Romance -Aug 25th, 2015
4 stars
Luck Be a Lady is part of the author’s Rules for the Reckless series. In the previous book, Lady Be Good, Catherine Everleigh and Nicholas O’Shea met and were polar opposites. Nick is a crime lord. A tough man that has built his own business and now owns a popular casino. While Catherine Everleigh is a lady of breeding. But Catherine is not the typical lady of the ton. She has no time for flirting and parties when she must manage her dead father's prestigious auction house. Unfortunately, she will not own half of the business until she marries. Until then she struggles under the thumb of her ambitious and spend-thrift brother. A brother that has been pilfering from the auction house and wants to use her in a political marriage to further his own career to power. When he threatens Catherine with selling her beloved auction house unless she marries the man of his choice she retaliates. Catherine forms a desparate plan to marry a man of her choosing instead. If only the despicable man would reply to her letters! For Catherine wants to marry a man that is not only strong but she can hold over her politically ambitious brother. And she has chosen the none other than the crime lord, Nicholas O'Shea. Through perseverance and skilled negotiations she finally is able to persuade Nick to marry her in a purely business arrangement. However, they are both surprised by how much they have in common. And soon they find mutual admiration, friendship and a hot blooded passion that can't be denied! Will their fake marriage become real or will her scheming brother's ambitions ruin their chance at love?
While it does built a bit from the prior book it is not necessary to have read the first, Lady Be Good This entertaining book can be read by itself. This book has a lot of fire and bluster as both strong-willed main characters finally meet their match. Nick is a man that has made himself powerful by sheer will power. And he isn't ashamed of his past or who he is. Catherine seems to be his polar opposite. I enjoyed reading them negotiate. And I think that is when Nick starts to fall a bit in love with Catherine. Catherine single-handedly runs her father's business. So she admires and respects Nick's business sense and sees him as an equal. And Nick is the only man besides her father to admire and respects her for keeping her business sense. Although they fight like cat and dog in the beginning, I really enjoyed how they both came to know each other and stand with each other in times of crisis. It was a real partnership and one that I think Catherine would not have been able to have with a lord of the ton. When her brother threatens her they work together in such harmony you know that their future together will be a happy and productive one.
Surprising and entertaining these wonderful characters will make you root for them as they catch villain and triumph in love.

Forsaken by Lisa Renee Jones
Contemporary Romance-August 18th, 2015
4 ½ stars
Forsaken is the third book in Lisa Renee Jones's The Secret Life of Amy Bensen series. This erotic novel is told in the first person by a desperate man on the run for his life and that of his sister. Forsaken exudes excitement and danger as the hero, Chad doesn't know who he can trust.
Chad and his father hired themselves out as treasure hunters. And got paid big. But on the hunt for a cylinder of unimaginable power, Chad has a change of conscience. He realized it would be irresponsible to hand it’s power over to men with dubious and power hungry motives. Unfortunately, this decision leads to the murder of his parents and the sudden disappearance of his sister, Amy. Now his only motivations are to stay alive and protect his innocent sister. When he is captured by the enemy, he finds himself with him a beautiful female captive that is also desperate to find a way out, too. Her name is Gia and she feels aligning herself with Chad will protect her. But Chad is suspicious of everyone. However, the more he gets to know Gia the more he falls under her sexy spell. But Gia knows more about Chad that he thinks. Is she a spy? Can he trust her with his life and that of his sister?
This book is edgy, scorching and suspenseful. Chad is one paranoid guy. He also is hot. The tension between the beautiful Gia and Chad is off the charts. They have an intense attraction that only intensifies as the search for his sister progresses. When Chad finally finds Amy she has changed and Chad must deal with her being all grown up and having a boyfriend that may or may not be trustworthy. Also, Gia seems very innocent but she knows things and Chad wants her despite knowing she could be his downfall. What are her motives? Since he was betrayed by his past girlfriend Chad is very wary of her. This ratchets up the intensity of the sex scenes between Gia and Chad which have a little powerplay/BDSM. As Chad is constantly watching and trying to control Gia since he doesn't know if he can trust her. This leads him to be a little rough and domineering toward her. However, Gia seems to find it a bit of a turn on! I definitely liked this book the best in the series. It was interesting to read Chad's point of view and you can feel his paranoia which ignites a lot of conflict and inner drama. This series still have a lot to uncover and I am looking forward to reading more.
Steamy and highly suspenseful this book is one big sexy thrill ride.

Magic Shift by Ilona Andrews
Urban Fantasy -Aug 4th, 2015
5 stars
In Magic Shifts, Ilona Andrews brings up back to magical Atlanta. The heroine Kate has just taken over the city and become its guardian from her all seeing, powerful and slightly scary, father Roland.
Now that Kate and Curren have has resigned as Consort and Beast Lord. They thought their life would be simple, maybe even boring. Unfortunately, when Kate found herself becoming the rule/guardian of Atlanta the power shift changed. And with that that power comes the ambitious that want to take it from her. As Kate finds herself battling ghouls, the Order and even the Guild. Instead of enjoying domestic bliss Curren and Kate are constantly defending the city and trying to raise a young girl to boot. However, no longer being Beast Lord has meant that Kate and Curren are not as financially stable as they once were. Adding to their stress, Kate father is building a suspicious tower nearby and she hopes he won't try to take over her beloved Atlanta again. Will they be able to juggle work, defending the city, taking care a child and not go crazy?!
This book was fantastic. Humorous, exciting and non-stop action. It was way better than expected. I literally savored every scene. The last book had was such a triumph that I wondered how the authors would top it. What would Kate and Curren do now that Curren has retired as the powerful Beast Lord? And how will Kate find the power to defend against her father and the beings that want to contest her right to rule Atlanta? Well, the authors made this book an unqualified hit by starting them on a grand and great new adventure that reminds me a bit their earlier books in the series. The authors are very clever in that they build an engrossing story with fantastic and engaging characters but still maddeningly leave questions and clues that will guarantee to make the readers want to know more. Kate and Curren are still the star power couple and I love how they sweep up the bad guys. I also loved how they find their own, new community. Now that they are unable to return to the Keep I was worried they would be isolated and alone. Instead they are still surrounded by true friends that support them. I loved reading about their friends and sort of wished more was mentioned about Dali and Jim (Hint- book please?!). I was also exhilarating reading Kate push her new found powers and Curren takes some really kick a## control. Curren is not fazed in the least by resigning as Beast Lord in fact it almost seems to make him more free and deadly now that he is not held by the pack and ruling them. I can't wait to read more. What mischief and mayhem will they both get themselves into? Since they are now 'free' agents they are sort of making up their own rules and is it fun to read. I was also surprised by the small cameos with Kate's father and others will be intrigued by their new relationship. This series just gets better.

Maxis Drago is a dragonshifter with the misfortune to discover his mate is a dragon slayer named Seraphina. Maxis loves Seraphina enough to endure living with her disrespectful clan just so they can be together. But when she betrays him and he nearly dies, he vows never to forgive her.
But you can’t outrun your past. The duplicitous Seraphina comes back and dares to ask him for a favor. She reveals that he is a father of twins. A son and a daughter. And she needs him to save them. Maxis can’t believe he is hurt by her further betrayal. But his resentment will not get in the way of rescuing the children he has never known. As Seraphina and Maxis work together to find their children they also find the passion they never lost. But Seraphina hurt on such a deep level Maxis and he isn’t sure if he can open his heart again.
No one creates noble, tortured heros like Sherrilyn Kenyon. Maxis is a strong warrior that loved his mate even if she treated him disrespectfully. As long as he was with the woman he loved he could endure living with the clan that hated him for his dragon blood. However, while he was willing to sacrifice even his dignity for his love. His mate, Seraphina was proud and could not quite live with that fact that her mate was a dragon. But when she betrayed him and lost his love she realized how much she lost. Although she alienated Maxis, she soon realized she had their young children to protect. However, when they become pawns Seraphina must swallow her pride and ask the only man that has ever made her happy for help. The set up for this story is dramatic, as is Seraphina’s entrance back into Maxis’s life. Seraphina seems cold and not at all likeable. But it clear although he tries to hide it that Maxis still loves Seraphina. I admired how he puts aside his pain to try to save his children. But it was difficult to care Seraphina, even though she asks Maxis for help she still seems to look down upon him for being a dragon. Throughout the book I kept asking myself if she was worthy of him. But thankfully she changes and sees other couples with differences find love and overcome difficult obstacles. She slowly learns tolerance and humility. I only wish their relationship could have been explored more and seen more softness or doubt in Seraphina earlier. The best sections of the story include Sanctuary where Maxis finds a ‘home’ with people that care about him and support him. I loved reading about characters from past books and how they are faring. I also enjoyed reading about Maxis’s grown up children. Children what have secrets even from their mother. Their protect and care for each other on a level that their parents didn’t. However, the very best part of the book was reading how Maxis, Seraphina and their children finally become a real family!

He wants to do this my improving his sheep stock by breeding them with a rare Spanish breed owned by the Earl of Bellefonte. But the imminently eligible and handsome Tremaine is an undeniable temptation to the earl. An earl that needs to marry off his lovable but troublesome sisters. Her compassion for the poor and aid to the sick touches his heart. Tremaine’s background was poor and he knows how much Nita’s help means to others -even if her family is set against her risking her self with the sick and underprivileged.
Lady Nita has purpose in her life even if her lovable family doesn’t understand it. She is driven to help others less fortunate. Her feels her gift to heal should be shared with everyone. And if she can saves lives it makes her life worthwhile. When she meets Tremaine she is surprised and pleased when he offers to help her on one of her trips. Nita is hopeful their friendship and blossoming love will create a lasting marriage built on trust and mutual respect. But when Tremaine begins making demands that she change herself to his ideals the marriage may be off forever.
Grace Burrowes has created a poignant and emotional romance. I loved her deep characterization of Nita and Tremaine. Both are fiercely strong willed and caring individuals. I found Nita to be the most courageous and lovable of all of Grace Burrowes heroines. She is honest to herself and others. I liked how she fights for what she believes in even if is against society’s norms. When faced with love or compromising her ethics she makes a difficult decision that I feel many women today could not make. Her husband must accept her for who she is or not at all. Nita is a polarizing figure because she stands up for herself and other women without appearing masculine. Tremaine is an atypical hero. He is not bound by class and barrier as much as most men. He also has purpose but is diverted from it by his growing affection for the indomitable Nita. He wants to be someone Nita can lean on and he appreciates her compassion. However, he is still a man of his times and wants to protect Nita from harm even if it stifles her. As he is faced with losing Nita he must makes changes for their relationship to prosper. Their growing love and respect were wonderful to read. I loved this book. It was realistic and romantic.
Nita worms her way into your heart and you want her hero to be just as worthy -and he is!

The Great Estate by Sherri Browning
Historical Romance -August 4th, 2015
3 /12 stars
Her world completely unraveled when lonely and lovely Countess, Lady Sophia Thorne was found in the arms of another man by her neglectful husband the Earl of Averford. Although Sophia loves her husband, Gabriel seems more interested in their estate and sports than his own wife. And after the death of their unborn child things between them deteriorated even further. When she was caught in a compromising position Sophia panicked. Her husband immediately abandoned her without a word. She had to slowly rebuilt her world and has taken pride in her ability to run the manor and the business surrounding it. Now it is a year later and she has discovered her husband has returned to England. Can they mend their differences and find love again? Will he accept her for the new woman she has become?
Gabriel was shocked when he discovered his wife with another man. He loves Sophia, and vows to change and return a more romantic and dapper husband. One that she would admired and love in return. But when he returns things don’t go exactly as planned.
When they both meet again they must solve deeper issues that began when they first married. Will they be able to set aside old preconceptions and accept each other as they truly are?
This was an interesting romance. The beginning was very promising. I really wanted the two main characters to get back together again. They both yearn for each other but don’t really know how to fix what is broken between them. They think they do but both have a lot of learning and growing to become the loving family they want. Gabriel tries but he can’t take Sophia seriously even when she makes wonderful improvements to their estate. It is a man’s job and it was annoying how often it seemed he dismissed her ‘female’ opinion. For Sophia, she has been brought up not to show she enjoys sex and this led to Gabriel feeling that he wasn’t a good lover. Because of their lack of intimacy their marriage suffered greatly. I liked reading how each character stretched themselves past their times and came fully into their own. In some way this novel is more about their personal development than their renewed romance. It is not a light romance. The only issue I had was (though it may be true to their times) I wish Gabriel had let Sophia continue to take reins of the manor. She is very capable and intelligent and by not acknowledging this fact I felt their relationship did not have the mutual respect it deserved to truly thrive. Sophia had to suppress an essential part of herself to make him happy.

Soon Denise and Vern find themselves an unlikely couple. Each learning from each other and finding an unexpected peace and mutual understanding. But can their new found love survive external factors that threaten to pull them apart?
As usual, M.L. Buchman bring rare insight into his characters. Vern and Denise at first seem a very unlikely couple. But both hide their true selves and are lucky enough to find acceptance and understanding in each other. Denise is a strong introvert that feels shy outside of her job. While Vern is not afraid to put himself out but doesn’t have the direction or focus that Denise has. I liked that they helped each other. With Denise, Vern is more stable and focused. And Vern pushes Denise to see outside of her job. When both are asked to participate in a hush hush operation they come to depend on each other. But their fragile new relationship is tested when Denise is given a rare, once in a life opportunity. Vern puts aside his own needs to give Denise the choice to choose what she wants to do with her life. Vern is a particularly interesting character, he has had an unusual upbringing and he has a self-confidence and exuberance for life that he joyfully shared with the quiet Denise. (Thankfully she has an inspired cast of character to help her.) In addition to her foe, the mysterious and powerful Mace, she also has to deal with the endless squabbling of petty and not so petty criminals that want to fill in the vacuum of organized crime opportunities newly open. Gin deals with her troubles in the same snarky yet honorable way that makes the reader love her. She still finds herself throwing herself headlong into trouble and thinking later. As they are thrown together in more intimate environments, their passion for each other blows out of control. However, Jeremy’s past haunts him and Yvette won’t settle for a marriage without love. Ths characters in this delightful Regency romance are a joy to read. Since this is the beginning of a new series I can’t to read more! Jeremy is a dashing rake that lives for painting. He is a rebel although he comes from a respectable American family. A family that wants him to return to his responsibilities in America. But his past shadows him and his guilt prevents him from moving forward. With Yvette he starts to feel truly alive again. But doubts his ability to be a good husband. I loved how Yvette could push Jeremy’s buttons and how he felt the need to protect her. Although Jeremy keeps telling himself being with Yvette is wrong, he can’t seem to keep his hands off of her! Yvette is a remarkable heroine. Her tall stature and curves made her the opposite of the fashionable ideal in womanhood. So she makes her own way and wears what suits her independent spirit. But she still feels the ‘lack’ physically compared to the other petite ladies. With Jeremy she feels like a temptress not overgrown or clumsy. I liked how these two appreciated each other’s unique qualities and saw underneath society’s idea of them. Yvette especially will engage readers. Hot and steamy. Jeremy and Phoebe have an unbridled chemistry that is highly erotic to read. But the trouble is that they don’t quite trust each other however much they long to be together. This book has emotional highs and lows as they seem to find a way to get back together only be torn apart again from jealousy or lack of faith in each other. As they struggle to overcome their insecurities and their relationship matures the reader will definitely root for them. Jeremy has a cool, James Dean vibe. I love Eve! She is a warm-hearted and loving heroine that readers will adore. Ben is a true, charming rogue. Although I didn't always agree with his actions to get Eve back I admired his determination to keep her and cherish her. Surprisingly, I found Eve's bumbling fiancee the most interesting and charming character in the story. (I really, really hope he gets his own love story) This romance is about second chances and forgiveness. Ben and Eve are a well matched couple and the reader will feel the passion and love they have for each other. I just wish Ben had not disappointed Eve earlier! Sometimes Ben is a bit devious on his mission to win Eve back and that is fun to read. But I always felt Eve was a bit too good for him. Her ability to forgive after being so terribly betrayed and how she volunteered to help orphans showed her depth of character. I was happy that Eve finally found the happiness she deserves. Also I am curious to read about her ex-fiancee since he seems to be mixed up in some very shady intrigue.
A surprisingly heartfelt and action filled Regency romance with a charming heroine.

But Jake’s notorious reputation is something that is held in fascination and targeted by men that want to challenge him or discover more about his life story. But Jake is still strong and tough. He suffers no fools and only wants to keep the peace for those he has vowed to protect. However, trouble looms, although his love for his wife keeps him grounded Jake has not quite shaken off the past and thoughts of his brutal father. When danger strikes and Miranda is faced with the possibility of death Jake must put his ghosts to rest and protect those he loves.
This romance brims with love for Jake, his wife and their children. It reads somewhat like a sweeping saga showing Jake’s struggles and those of his children. However, the author clearly loves her hero. Silent and enigmatic, Jake is the star of this novel. Those that appreciate deep commitment and love between the main characters will lap this book up. Although, Jake and Miranda are often apart although they are constantly thinking of each other. But I must warn readers that this book does not contain any steamy scenes. Rather is shows how Jake has changed through the years. Tough but honorable and willing to make sacrifices for those he loves. He is fascinating to read. But I think the best section is when Jake is confronted by his past and saves a young boy. It brought tears to my eyes. This western about a decent, loving family in the west is a book that clearly show how much the author loves her characters.
It is an emotional journey will make you wish there was a real life Jake Harkner!

Infinite Possibilities by Lisa Renee Jones
Contemporary Romance - July 7th, 2015
4 stars
As the second in her erotic thriller series, the Secret Life of Amy Bensen, Lisa Renee Jones ratches up the tension as a heroine running from her past is targeted but a unknown force.
Amy Bensen loved her family but their shady dealings led to their deaths and her on the run from shadowy figures. Trying to live a new life under an assumed identity, she meets the ultra wealthy and protective Liam Stone. They fall into a passionate affair and Amy become pregnant which makes Liam even more protective. However, Amy can’t run away from a past she hardly remembers and as they try to investigate her family’s deaths the body count keeps climbing. As they realize anyone who has any information has been quietly silenced. Can Liam save Amy from her unknown assailants and uncover the truth in time?
This sensual romance has it all -an alpha hero and a feisty damsel in distress. The author does a very good job of keeping secrets to increase the tension in this mystery. Especially as Amy starts to remember details of her past and clues surface that reveal that not all her family may be dead. As the stakes climb, this reader was getting nervous and although I didn’t think the author would kill off her heroine the book was spine tingling suspenseful. The passion between Amy and Liam is off the charts as Amy wants him fiercely. However, she doesn’t know if she should trust him. Liam is a man with laser focus and all that attention is set on keeping Amy for his own. As Amy’s life is placed in constant danger their relationship becomes very intense. This book was a read I won’t soon forget. The only detractions in this romance are that the entire book is in first person, which some readers may not enjoy. And since this is the second in the series, there are secrets that are left hanging for the next installment.
This sharp, erotic thriller will have you on the edge of your seat as you will wonder (like the heroine) who to trust.

Not so New in Town by Michele Summers
Contemporary Romance -July 7th 2015

This fun, small town romance will have you coming back for more. It is part of the Harmony Homecoming series.
Lucy Doolan left town when there was a rift with her family, namely her selfish step-sister, Julia. But now she has come back to try to mend fences and help her newly pregnant step-sister and her young teenage son. But Lucy doesn’t know anything about domestic duties or teenagers. When the scrumptious and hunky, Brogan Reese lends a hand it throws Lucy into a tizzy. He has always been her secret crush. And to her dismay, she has realized that crush hasn’t exactly gone away! Brogan makes her a tempting deal, he will help her with her unruly teenage nephew and provide healthy meals if she will help market his new health store. As they work together, they find themselves soon falling into bed as well. However, it seems that their intimacy means more to Lucy than Brogan. And when Brogan suddenly leaves Lucy is stuck alone with a broken heart. Will Brogan realize what has before it is too late?
Harmony is a cozy town filled with meddling busy buddies and tons of charm. Poor Lucy has returned with her tail between her legs. She has been burned at her latest job and by her ex-boyfriend. Now faced with helping a step-sister she never got along with she is determined to start a new chapter in her life. And that does not include the handsome and cocky Brogan. Brogan always dismissed her as a geeky nerd that adored him and instead spent his quality time with her step-sister, Julia. But Brogan has grown up and he has definitely noticed how much growing up Lucy has done. He now sees her as sexy as sin and desperately wants her help with his failing new health food store. However, Brogan has ghosts from his past including a failed marriage to a woman he never loved. When he is confronted with the idea of commitment and an adulterous father he needs to lick his wounds. I liked that ths romance reveals the insecurities and vulnerabilities of the main characters. While people may think Brogan has it easy on the outside he is filled with doubts. Lucy with her failed relationship and career actually has a more solid emotional state. The way they both face their fears and work together made this seem like a real relationship that would last.
Drama, hope and second chances make this romance a keeper.

Searching for Always by Jennifer Probst
Contemporary Romance - June 30th, 2015
5 stars
Jennifer Probst continues her best-selling Searching For series with the latest Kinnections story.
Arilyn Meadows and her friends own a popular matchmaking service called Kinnections. And while her good friends have found the love of their lives, she has just discovered the man she loved has been cheating on her! Depressed, unhappy, and angry, she has been a tad irritable. But as a yoga instructor and an anger management counselor she feels she must rise above these feelings. As she tries to find her inner peace she unfortunately is disrupted by her newest anger management client. The sexy and ultra masculine officer, Stone Perry. For he knows how to push all her buttons....
Officer Stone Perry loves his job. It is his life. But when he discovers a domestic abuse situation in progress, he gets into a rage a finds himself hitting the abusing husband. He is put on suspension and placed in a mandatory anger class. Stone eels these classes are a lot of hocus pocus but if he has to do them to keep his job he will show up. But the woman heading the class, is the high and mighty Arilyn Meadows. A woman the complete opposite of him, and one that thinks she is above him. She annoys him to no end and makes him incredibly hot. And if she is going to torture him. Well, he might as well torment her a little, too! But as tempers flare so does their attraction for each other. And what started as a no commitment fling is becoming much more. But Stone doesn't do relationships, will he run away and break Arilyn's heart?
This was an emotional romance that readers of Jennifer Probst have come to expect. And my new favorite! Arilyn has overcome a sad childhood and wants to do the same to help others. And she has looked for men with the same gentle, good intentions in her love life. But the last relationship shattered her when the man she loved cheated on her. She just wants to re-center her life and get it back under control. However, her latest client is the antitheses of her ideal man. He is crude, smoked, drinks and eat meat and fast food. Plus her doesn't seem to like dogs! But Stone also has an animal magnetism that she can't deny. And when she learns more about him she finds herself falling in love with one of the most moral and responsible men she has ever met. Officer Stone completely charms her (and this reader) in his gruff and very sincere way. From the first page readers will love and sympathize with Stone. He is rough and tough but has a heart of gold. Even as you read him going down a mental and physical spiral you want him to find someone who will look out for him -he is very much alone except for his partner at work. Arilyn is such a caring individual that you know she will care for him and give him the love that he was lost when he was younger. And I loved how Stone always felt the need to protect Arilyn and pushes her to see her short comings, too! Reading them together made me laugh and cry. The other stars of the show are the crippled dog Robert and the poor abused little dog Pinky that Arilyn saves but the 'manly' Stone comes to adore. This book is a joyous story about two wonderful characters that deserve someone to care and love for them. These characters are very real and easy to care for, as they face their fears and find each other it will make you believe in the power of love.
A hero to melt your heart and a heroine that you will love - this book has everything!

Historical Romance -June 16th, 2015
3 1/2 stars
In this bold, new western romance a young tomboy on the run and the Marshal sent to catch her find unexpected love in the wild west.
Maxine grew up pretty and wild. But when the town major started pressuring her to marry his son she unexpectedly kills him. And finds herself on the run and with the hopes her absence will save her grandmother heartache. Now wanted by her town she is found by the newly deputized Marshal Degan Grant.
Grant is a slick gunslinger that is tired of his shooting days and being forced to prove his skills. His dark reputation makes him someone to fear. Now he is thinking of settling down. But when a friend in need asks for his help he finds himself made a temporary Marshal. He is on the hunt and Maxine is on the top of the list! But when Degan finds Maxine he soon realizes the boy he is sent to hunt down is actually a girl! But Degan is nothing if not thorough and is intent on bringing in his criminal. As she is a murderer he is intent on taking her back to her old town to face charges. But Maxine will try to do anything from going back. As Maxine tries to out smart Degan and escape they are troubled another posse of men that want her, too. Plus, Degan's past fiancee wants a piece of him. And is intent on bringing him back to Chicago. To complicate matters further, their close proximity has brought on a deep attraction!
This story has a lot of twists and turns. It starts out rather slow with the introduction of Degan - his reputation and the ex-fiancee who wants him back. Although Degan has been city bred living the harsh life of the wild west near penniless had toughened him up a lot. He is no longer the young boy that fled Chicago. And he doesn't want to revisit the memories that forced him to leave. His latest bounty is the saucy Maxine, a beautiful armful that has him thinking thoughts better left unsaid. As Degan and Maxine are forced together so does their admiration and growing respect. Degan is unsure of Maxine's innocence and claims of being hunted by a powerful man. Maxine is frustrated by the enigmatic gunslinger that won't listen to reason. She wants nothing more than to see her grandmother but fears her coming back home will spell more trouble. Degan has become a skeptical and hard man. A good man but one that has seen a lot. I liked that the incomparable Maxine throws all of his well-ordered world into chaos and gives him a new interest in life. Maxine is a true tomboy, a bit crude and rough but still very sweet. She has had to be tough to defend herself and trusting Degan is difficult especially when he doesn't believe her innocence. I liked how they had to rely on each other and find something special together. I did find myself a bit annoyed that it took Degan so long to believe Maxine but he more than makes for up in the end. The only things was that the pacing sometimes made the story drag and the story felt draw out more that it needed to be in spots. But it did make how how they outsmarted the villain all that more satisfying.
A solid western that features a hardened gunslinger and his feisty captive.

A woman with a mission and a man wronged find themselves in love and in the fight of their lives.
Kat Lane’s tortured past drives her to help others. As a prison instructor she wants to help those in need. Her most compelling project, the enigmatic and sexy Wesley Carter. Their powerful physical attraction makes their lessons all the more intense. But their relationship is a violation of Kat’s professional career. When Wesley finally serves his time they both believe they can finally concentrate on each other. But Wesley’s past drags him down. For Wesley is actually a wealthy heir and his family members covet his money. And will do anything -including threatening Kat to keep it. It is a fight against the odds. Will Kat and Wes escape unscathed?
At first I thought this would be a typical good girl meets bad boy romance. But it surprised me. Wes is an extremely intelligent man that has been dealt a raw deal. He is still a bit of a rebel and definitely has that dark edge that will attract readers. Kat is kind, generous and courageous. And she is the perfect foil for Wes. She believes in him and that forces him to believe in something besides his own downward spiral. When she is threatened Wes steps up and protects her. Their devotion to each is touching to read. Wes and Kat have demons from their past and I liked how each of them faced them and became stronger people. They brought out the best in each other and I loved reading their tender romance. The author could have written a book that plays up Wes’s bad boy nature with scenes of indiscriminate violence. But instead she used it to show the subtly and beauty of enduring and redeeming love.
Touching and sexy this is a book that will pull on the heart strings.

Shards of Hope by Nalini Singh
Paranormal Romance- June 2nd, 2015
5 stars
Shards of Hope is the latest in Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling novels and proves why the author is a New York Time Best-selling author. While many authors’ books run out of steam as their series progresses this newest installment has non-stop action, deep characterization and plots that build and build upon each other.
Aden is the leader of the deadly Arrow unit. Men and women used by the Psy society and thrown away. The Arrows are a group of elite and highly dangerous Psy feared by their own kind and treaty brutally in the name of cold control and logic. Decommissioned when they become too unstable. But with the Net down and the Arrows as the only real Psy enforcement the new Psy world is tenuous. Especially as a shadowy new power looks to cause more chaos in the name of greed. When Aden and another Arrow named Zaira are kidnaped, the stakes climb higher. Without Aden’s stable leadership the Arrows reputation is put into question. As Aden and Zaira fight to escape and stay alive they soon realize their Psy abilities have been corrupted by a dangerous implant in their brain. An implant that may be causing permanent damage to their powerful minds. They must lean on each other in ways Arrows never have before. And without the use of their mind they will have to rely on physical communication and comfort. Which brings a dangerous new intimacy that both crave from each other. But Ziara fears her powers spiraling out of control. Without her cold control she would cause irreparable damage. But Aden is willing to risk his life to have the fiery Ziara as his mate. Can they find some balance in the new world and find a place for Arrows?
This book was intense. The two main characters have buried their emotions so deeply that when their emotion try to come out it is like a break before a violent storm. You want them to care for each other on an emotional level but fear for them but because they are so dangerous. I haven’t read a book with so much bottled up tension between the two mail characters in years. I loved Zaira’s character. She has always admired Aden and coveted his company. But understood that she must deny these feeling for the greater good. Zaira has a strong need to possess Aden, but is terrified about permitting herself to have him. What if she if her consuming jealously gets out of control? Who would she hurt in the process? The problem is that Aden wants Zaira, too. An he isn’t shy about letting her know its fine with him to do her worst. He wants to be possessed by her. Since both are new to emotions it was interesting to read them try to start a new type of relationship outside of their professional jobs. These two characters have suffered so much physical and mental torture that you want them to find some happiness together even as you realize they don’t even understand the concept of happiness. Another reason I liked is because she has overcome terrifying abuse as a child and still finds the capability to care for children and nurture them. I found some of the most emotional sections of the book are when she is finds young, struggling Arrows and look after them. Although she does not see herself as a nurturer she is like a mother to them. This novel is also epic not just because of Zaira and Aden but also because it delves into a shadow group that hope to take advantage of the instability of the Psy. Who are they and what do they want? As characters from previous book come into play and add to this amazing world -you won’t want to leave. Nalini Singh’s strong writing just keeps getting better. The depth and complexity of the characters and world building are extraordinary. While other series get stale this one keeps getting better. I can’t wait to read her next Psy-Changeling novel but am not sure how she will top this one.
Two amazing, self- sacrificing main characters with inhuman powers make for a spectacular new addition to the Psy-Changeling world. If you appreciate fantastic world building, a blazing hot relationship and incredible story telling you simply cannot miss this book.

This incredible romance starts with a bang and never lets up. The ultra secret agency and the super cool agents reminded me of a James Bond movie only better. Since it features real, hot, steamy romance! The villain is extremely evil and you can’t wait for his comeuppance. Selene and Levi match each other brilliantly. Strong willed, resourceful and sexy. They are the ultimate power couple with an assassins skill set. I found myself hooked from the first page. Selene is particularly interesting. Although she is experienced in many things, relationships are one area she is a novice. This is because she has focused on her career and she is still a virgin! Selene is so brilliant she has also found many men resent her capabilities. With Levi she can be herself and he respects her skills. Theirs is a relationship of equals. The Spring Bride is the third in the author's Chance sister series. About poor orphans that are adopted and saved by the indomitable and meddling Lady Beatrice.
Jane Chance is beautiful and sweet. But her beauty had caused her nothing but trouble! Being poor and without protection made her easy prey for very unsavory men. Their unwanted attentions have made her life difficult and she has learned the hard way that she is the one blamed. So while all her ‘sisters’ want to marry a man to love them, she is more practical. She wants a man that can provide her safety and comfort. When a wealthy if portly and slightly pompous man proposes to her after having just seen her, she decides to accept his proposal. Her sisters are concerned for her since they want her to find a love match. But Jane is content until she spies a tiny dog being abused on the streets and goes to protect it but ends up being harassed herself! When a handsome gypsy comes to save her she finds herself unwillingly attracted to the most ineligible of men!
Zachary Black has just returned to England after spying for the British government. Only to discover that his cousin is intent on claiming his lands and title due to his long absence. In addition to proving his identity, he has been accused of murdering his step-mother. However, Zach knows his step-mother is alive because he was the one that saved her and hid her away from his abusive father before he left. While mulling over his plans he spies a lovely lady being accosted by young street rats and goes to save her. Unfortunately, he is dressed incognito in his gypsy clothes. Although he has never had any permanent interest in a female Jane tempts him. And what started as a lark soon becomes serious. Unfortunately, Jane is betrothed and he must prove his innocence.
Mystery, romance and a rascally but dashing hero make for an entertaining read! Jane is had lived a life of hardship and poverty, her beauty making her prey to unscrupulous men. Tired of being poor, even though she and her sister have now been adopted by the formidable and wealthy Lady Beatrice, she wants security above all else. While her sister badger her on her quick acceptance of marriage to a rich man she hardly knows she vows never to suffer again. But the engaging, if poor Zach tempts her sorely. She feels she can laugh and be herself with him. As they get to know each other she discovers he has lied about his identity and is being accused of murder. Taking a chance with her future with such a man is a big risk indeed. I liked that Jane has a chance at love. I didn't want her throwing her life away on a fiancee that really didn't appreciate it her. In this book, the author shows how hard it has been for Jane -never feeling safe and thinking money will provide safety. Her love for Zach tests her resolve. A life of comfort or one that may lead to disaster. Zach must also change. He has only thought of himself and how he enjoys his wild adventures. But he realizes Jane deserves security and he wants to give that to her Also, that it is something he might not be able to give her. Zach must also reveal his true identity and own up to his irresponsibility. This book is filled with love and sacrifice. The charmers of the story are the scrappy mutt Jane adopts and the wily Lady Beatrice who is not above some underhanded matchmaking to make her girls happy.

This feel good romance will make you cry tears of sorrow and happiness as it shows that good things can happen to decent people.
Dori Grant is a young unmarried mother. She lives in a small town where gossip and prejudice run rampant. Formerly a 'good girl' she has fallen from grace in the eyes of many condemning town folk when she became pregnant. Thankfully she has the love and support of her dear grandfather. But when tragedy strikes and her grandfather cannot help her many in the town shun her. It is only the aid of a young man from the wrong side of town that offers her any aid. But because of his family reputation rumors spread that he is the father.
Johnny Pine loves his brothers and nearly had them taken away. He is determined to show the hypocritical town that he and his brother are much more than white trash. But he is poor and his young siblings are a handful. When one is beaten up by a gang of wealthy older boys, he has to take his brother to the ER. Where many in the town are spreading vicious lies. Although a police officer and a compassionate lawyer help him prove his brother's innocence, Johnny feels the weight of the town on his young shoulders. And when he decides to aid a young mother when none of her neighbors will lift a finger to help more rumors spread. But truth, justice and love will prevail.
This was a deeply emotional book that will suck the reader in. Dori and Johnny are good, honest and decent people. They are the underdogs you will root for. Dori is a hardworking mother that holds a deep, painful secret. You will want her to succeed and find happiness. Johnny is very young to take on the responsibilities of two young boys with tons of energy. What I liked most about him is that you know he has suffered due to his parents reputations. That he has succeeded and found a good job and gained custody of his young brothers is a true feat of heroism. But he doesn't see it that way. He just wants to keep his family together and take care of those he loves. What was heart warming about this story was just when you think Dori or Johnny are going to be railroaded by vicious lies, some of the town people aid Johnny and Dori despite the strong prejudices. This book lifted my spirits and will make you smile long after it is done.
This gentle small town romance is heartwarming and sweet. The courage and kindness of many of the characters will make you wish they were real.

John Fitzhugh Barrett always thought he was the castoff bastard. When his young mother died he was thrown with other orphans then brought up in the country. But his world is about to change when he discovers he is actually the true heir to a marquessate. Now suddenly important, he is bitter over his past mistreatment and runs to London to live in excess. There he finds a himself in an unruly crowd. His latest fiasco is boxing and the prize is money and a young, frightened and kidnapped virgin. John is surprised to notice that she is a young lady that he met in a museum and she unlike others in society did not look down upon him.
Young, Rebecca Kearsey is the daughter of an impoverished baron. One that seems determined to gamble away everything he owns. When she goes out shopping for for her ill mother she is kidnapped and taken to be a prize in a shady boxing match. Where she spies the nice gentleman she met at the museum. While she dreamed about seeing him again, it wasn't like this. When he wins and takes her home is thankful and relieved. But she wants to do something for him. He seems lost in society. But after rescuing her, young John goes back to the boxing area to find his 'friends' and is beaten up and robbed. Taken to his new home he wakes up to discover himself with unknown family and the face of the woman he saved! Rebecca offers to watch over him and she tries to persuade him to visit his ancestral home. But he will only do so if she comes and if she kisses him! Rebecca readily agrees to the first but the second is surprisingly delightful. Rebecca is already half way in love with John but an impoverish daughter would never be good enough. So she hopes to get him comfortable in his new status and guide him as a means of thanking him. However, John also invites his new friends and that is when the trouble starts. As one is also attracted to Rebecca and uses foul means to 'have' her. Can John save Rebecca before it is too late?
This is an amusing romp as young John hasn't realized what is important to him. He naive and lets himself be drawn into trouble. But Rebecca is perfect for him. And I think he realizes it or he wouldn't be making excuses to be with her so often throughout the book -even though they are not a suitable match. John's whole life has been upended and Rebecca seems to be the only one he can trust and be himself with. I liked that they had instant chemistry and genuinely cared for each other. Their romance is sweet but the manipulations of John's well meaning relatives and his supposed friends are a powder cage ready to explode. Rebecca is kind woman with a strong character. She loves her parents with all their faults and tries her best. She loves John and you feel for her that she knows that she isn't wealthy enough for John to marry. I also liked that she is the only character that is open with John and isn't afraid to show her feelings. When John finally realizes that he loves her back, he is galvanized to keeping her! I also liked how surprisingly how clever he is and even outsmarts the villain in the story. The manipulating relatives also provide entertainment as you hope that John and Rebecca can avoid their traps.
A rough prince saves a sweet princess in this charming Regency romance.
