Seeker of Shadow by Nancy Gideon
Paranormal Romance -May 29th, 2012
4 stars
Susanna Duchamps owes the assassin, Nica Fraser, a favor. So when Nica asks her for help, she rushes to the New Orleans club where Nica now works. But Nica has a surprise for Susanna: Nica has uncovered Susanna’s secret work. Susanna is actually a geneticist working with shifter genes and is trying to combine and manipulate them. Nica wants Susanna to study the shifter regeneration properties in hopes that the ability can be transferred to save a human who is dying. But trouble comes when the owner of the club, Jacques LaRoche, instantly scents Susanna and wants her to leave. Something about her disturbs him and he finds himself alarmingly attracted to her.
Unknown to Jacques, he and Susanna have a past but his memories were brutally torn from him. While he has success and wealth, he lives in a limbo. He only knows he has a mate, but nothing else. Susanna draws him but she has dangerous secrets that she will fight to keep from him. Will Jacques be strong enough to work beyond their past and find a new future or will another man’s bid for power demolish it?
The beginning of this story is thrilling as an unknown woman seems to have betrayed her lover. I enjoyed this tantalizing prologue and piecing the puzzle of the mysterious woman while reading the story. Jacques is my favorite hero in the author’s shifter series. He is a lonely and sorrowful hero as so much has been taken from him. It made me wonder what his life might have been like if he hadn’t been betrayed. I especially admired that although he has suffered great injustice, he still has a deep and caring heart (that he tries to hide behind his tough exterior!) to help others. He is really a big softie! Past characters such as Charlotte and Max make significant appearances and keep this series together and evolving. The two main characters are so obviously meant to be together that it really pulled me into their stormy reunion. The longing and yearning they feel for each other make it very emotional and romantic.
This paranormal with its star crossed lovers who finally get a well deserved second chance will draw you in.

Tangle of Need by Nalini Singh
Paranormal Romance –May 29th, 2012
4 stars
In Tangle of Need, Nalini Singh continues her wildly popular Psy-Changeling series. Where two shifters with wounded pasts find unexpected love even though they are not natural mates.
Lieutenant Adria is a tough, cool warrior who is not afraid of anything. Except true intimacy and love. Her last relationship did not end well because her partner could not accept her dominant nature. This has scarred her confidence and she feels the terrible inconvenience of finding herself attracted to the newest member of her pack, Lieutenant Riaz. Working with Riaz seems impossible because all she can think of is how much she wants him. But Riaz has secrets of his own, namely that he feels bound to woman who is married to another. He does not like Adria or her hostile attitude towards him but when he is with he forgets the ‘other woman.’ But the passion between them is stronger than any he has ever known. However, what will happen when the woman he thought he loved becomes unattached? Who will he choose?
The repressed passion between the ice cold Adria and the lone wolf Riaz is off the charts. The reader can really feel the tension between them dripping off the page. This story is atypical because Riaz has a potential mate who is married to another man. This other woman still draws him and this causes Adria to feel ‘second best.’ She already feels like a failure from her past relationship and not being the woman Riaz really wants grates on her confidence. These circumstances make for a very emotional and charged novel. In addition, the author spends a significant amount of time revisiting other characters such as Hawke and Sienna and their budding relationship. The plot also includes the devious machinations of the Psy leaders and the deadly Arrows. All of which seem to have their own agendas.
Complex and compelling, this electrifying and passionate romance will strongly appeal to Psy-Changeling fans and edgy paranormal lovers.

Against the Sun by Kat Martin
Contemporary Romance - May 29th, 2012
4 stars
Against the Sun is part of Kat Martin’s fabulously popular Raines of the Wind Canyon series. Strong men with a heart of gold characterize this wonderful series.
Jake Cantrell is a security expert who is feeling a bit bored when he is assigned as a bodyguard to the luscious if strong willed heiress Sage Dumont by her powerful grandfather. But this is strictly job is business and besides, Sage has a fiancée. Sage is impetuous, independent and ambitious. Although Jake knows it is wrong, their mutual attraction flares hotter with every encounter. And when Sage calls her engagement all bets are off! But complications arise when the Middle Eastern sheik that Sage is to conduct a business deal with brings his family to the United States. Ones that involve: drugs, explosion and murderous threats. Can Jake protect Sage and win her love?
This books starts out deceptively simple. But I was surprised at how complex the plot evolved and how much I enjoyed the fiery interplay between Jake and Sage. It was also interesting to see how Sage must adapt to working with a different culture and the ramifications of the often clashing ideals. Sage’s character transformed as she starts out self-assured but then must question what she really wants in life, including Jake! I liked how Jake shook things up for Sage and the sexual tension between them really had me hot under the collar! When Sage realized that she was living a ‘half’ life that did not challenge her, I found myself sympathizing with her. The subplots surrounding the sheik and Sage’s feisty, red-headed best friend, Rina, made this a fun and compelling book to read. I hope Kate Martin will write a book that stars Rina as her next heroine because she is one spunky character that will give the right man the run for his money!
Immersing, well written suspense with passionate characters that are easy to love.

Dark Frost by Jennifer Estep
Paranormal Romance –May 29th 2012
4 ½ stars
Gwendolyn Frost has discovered that she is the Champion to Nike when she suddenly finds herself in the Mythos Academy. Mythos Academy is a school that trains magical students how to fight the evil Reapers of Chaos led by the destructive god Loki. Gwen has special gypsy skills that allow her to discover ‘things’ from objects she touches. She is given the task of stopping the evil Reapers from freeing the power hunger and mad god Loki. With the aid of her bloodthirsty and cocky sword Vic she tries to discover where her mother has hidden the Helheim Dagger. It is the last artifact that the Reapers are trying to find to free Loki from his prison. But Gwen is fighting against time and also working to discover the identity of the Champion that killed her mother. To complicate matters, a powerful and scary hellhound befriends her and a hot Spartan schoolmate distracts Gwen.
Gwen is a likeable underdog who feels like she can’t do anything right. Her abilities seem weak compared to the rest of the rich and powerful students at school. When she discovers that her mother has been murdered she is driven to find the killer and find justice. This was a quick and suspenseful read as Gwen plays the detective. Since Gwen is new to this magical world she is often trying to orient herself and as she learns more so does the reader. I really enjoyed the authors various mythological students in training from the Valkyries to Spartans and how each of them has their own strengths and weaknesses. The many varied characters alone guarantee that some new mischief will occur that Gwen will have to sort out. I love that this storyline has a lot of room to grow. It was fun to read Gwen learning her powers and what they can actually do and how she is determined to find out more about her mysterious mother. I also loved the hilariously loud mouthed and blood thirsty sword Vic who happens to have an equally loud mouthed arch nemesis sword named Lucretia.
Wildly inventive, funny and entertaining I can’t wait for the next installment!

As a result, Cade became a bitter outlaw but now he wants to redeem his life. But he is being pursued. Luckily, he is saved by a pastor. However, his pursuers find him and kill the pastor. But when he arrives he is unconscious and suffering from a life threatening gunshot wound. Leah is shocked to find herself attracted to him. When she contracts the measles and they are quarantined together things only get more complicated.
The simple and authentic hometown feel of this new series will invite readers. Those who enjoy Dorothy Garlock’s books will find a haven in this sweet story. This quiet novel slowly unfolds as the main characters find a deep love. Leah feels guilty having feelings for Cade because she thinks she is betraying her love for her husband. Cade feels guilty lying and causing more harm by ‘corrupting’ Leah. Both discover a well deserved happiness together. The town has a lot of character as there are also many amusing characters who just beg to have their own stories told!

Beguiling the Beauty by Sherry Thomas
Historical Romance May 1st, 2012
3 ½ stars
Sherry Thomas writes a novel about two beautiful main characters that are unerringly meant to be together.
The Duke of Lexington, Christian de Montfort is charming, attractive and wealthy. But there is one thing he can’t have, the married and very beautiful Venetia Easterbrook. When her husband cryptically tells Christian that Venetia may be the death of him and then suddenly and mysteriously dies, he questions her honor. Especially when she quickly marries another man many years her senior. However, this does not stop Christian from still desiring her for himself. When he visits the Americas he vilifies Venetia anonymously and Venetia is hurt and humiliated. When they meet on a transatlantic boat she pretends to be the mysterious Baroness von Seidlitze-Hardenberg so she needn’t confront him. But finds she is shockingly aware of him and he of her. She decides to hurt him with a vengeful affair as the mysterious Baroness but instead finds herself in love.
This was an interesting story which seemed a bit more convoluted then it needed to be. The motivations of each character seemed to be more extreme than most people, especially Christian. Christian (particularly, in the beginning) comes off as a bit spoiled because he can’t have Venetia so he easily is willing to believe the worst of her. I also felt it was pretty unbelievable that they had an affair and he has no clue that the Baroness is really Venetia. Venetia is a far more sympathetic character, she holds painful secrets but the affair with Christian didn’t seem true to her character. She becomes enraptured with Christian despite his arrogance. I enjoyed the second half of the story more as Christian must change. They both long for each other and their feelings were very real. While well written, I found this story ultimately unsatisfying.
While the first section of the book is a bit unbelievable the second half is filled with deep emotion that is romantic.

Addison Fox writes another stirring Sons of Zodiac novel as a Hot Roman warrior with a deep well of honor makes this book an instant winner. This book can easily be read as a stand alone but will make new readers want to read the rest!
Drake was given a second chance at life by the Goddess Themis. In return he pledged his service to her and he was also given powers to save humanity. Drake constantly risks his life to save others. The only thing he craves for himself beyond the need for justice are the beautiful arms of the white witch Emerson Carano.
But Emerson only wants him for sex!! But when her brother mysteriously appears and seems involved in dark practices, Emerson becomes concerned. She soon finds herself out of her depth and Emerson discovers herself getting closer to Drake. Will Emerson finally trust Drake and open herself to love? Thinks get more complicated when the powerful Goddess of Discord named Eris starts interfering to get her magical apple back as kidnapping and mayhem follow.
Drake is hot, Hot, HOT! He is hunky, noble and very caring of Emerson. I was captivated by his loyalty, trustworthiness and deep integrity. On the other hand, Emerson takes a while to warm up to. She treats Drake like a sex object and is very unwilling to open herself up to him. I felt terribly bad for Drake who doesn’t seem to ask anything for himself. I wanted him to have a soul mate who could match him and I never felt Emerson quite did. But Emerson is feisty and keeps him on his toes. As Emerson grows and allows herself to love and risk, the story gets more involving. The plot also gets more interesting as Emerson’s brother and the interfering Goddess of Discord add a lot of strife and uncertainty.
Those who love Greek mythology will love this larger than life hero. It reminded me of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters.

In the Company of the Witches by Joey Hill
Paranormal Romance –May 1st, 2012
4 ½ stars
Rough, raw and blazing, this book hallmarks the edgy eroticism of Joey Hills’s books.
This is the second book in the Arcane Shot series. It is not necessary to have read the first book, Something About Witches, but the main characters from the first book play prominent roles.
Riana is a sexy madam of a bordello. She is half witch and succubus. She is content with her life until a troublesome Dark Guardian arrives hunting a sex demon who has stolen a powerful artifact and is implicated with the murder of a powerful gatekeeper. Riana thinks she is immune to any male or female temptation but Mikhael tempts her beyond reason. For he plans to stay at her bordello! He intends to watch over the sex demon she has vowed to protect and find out who is really behind the slaying of the gate keeper. When he invites himself to her apartments and seduces her with mind blowing sex Riana is overwhelmed. What starts out as ‘merely’ explosive sex may result in an eternal love.
Both characters start out rather enigmatic but as the story progressed so did my affection and respect for them. I particularly loved Mikhael. He is dark, dangerous and totally lethal -especially in the bedroom! (Their strip/bondage poker scene was well worth the price of the book!) Mikhael wants Raina from the very start and nothing is going to stop him! As he grows to respect and care for her Raina, so does the reader. Mikhael is so protective and dominant the he will make readers melt! I only wish the author had revealed more of his past. The chemistry between the two main characters sizzles. However, this series is not as dark or ‘kinky’ as her Vampire series so readers of her books might find this series ‘tamer.’ Raina is a very strong character who has fought against adversity and the torture of her kind. As a result, she is practical and even cynical. She takes care of others but doesn’t let others do the same for her. Her difficult past has made it hard for her to trust and reading her let Mikhael into her heart was wonderful to read. Mikhael fulfills all her hidden desires. I loved that she had finally had this dependable, moral and steadfast angel to back her up for once in her life.
Totally magnetic and addictive this new paranormal series has it all.

Nearly broken, she is saved by a Phantom Corps officer, Vincenz Fardelle. She holds onto him as her life line and Vincenz finds himself strangely nurturing towards her. When she reacts violently to strangers, he decides to take care of her and have her stay with him and his boyfriend Julian Marsters to recuperate. But as Hannah recovers so does her awareness of them as men and when she spies them having sex she is totally turned on! And matters heat up as Vincenz and Julian find themselves attracted to Hannah as she gets stronger. Inevitably, they soon find themselves in inviting her into their bedroom. As they find a new love together they try to piece together why Hannah was kidnapped and get involved in a dangerous op to rescue Vincenz’s mother.
This steamy futuristic book will be sure to satisfy fans of paranormal and blazing hot romance. Vincenz and Julian make a steamy couple and there are M/M scenes and as well as M/F/M scenes. While some authors just throw in gratuitous sex scenes, Lauren Dane’s are handled so deftly they felt very natural, loving and sensual. I loved how Vincenz rescues Hannah and when Vincenz and Julian both cherish and nurture her to health while still treating her with respect. Hannah starts out very fragile but courageously recovers with their compassion and steadfastness. I also enjoyed the futuristic world. The author keeps adding depth and dimension so that it keeps making it fresh and involving.
Sensual scenes and two knights in shining armor make for a spectacularly sexy read.

Goodgirl Miranda Hill has lived years of shame when Dane Croft posted pictures of her ‘exposed’ on the internet. It is a scandal that continues to haunt her as the ‘Boobs of Bluebonnet.’ Since Miranda lives in a small town that knows everyone and everything this has made her life very rough. To make matters worse Dane just left town after the fallout to become a big athletic star.
But now Dane is back and sweet Miranda has decided she wants revenge. She plans to seduce him and post pictures of him in a compromising situation! Now he will know how she has felt being humiliated. She has the perfect opening because Dane has opened up a survival school and she has signed up to get close to him. But what happens when she starts falling for Dane all over again? Can she hurt him like he hurt her or will she have a change of heart?
Dane can’t believe Miranda Hill, the sexy girl he knew of nine years ago has signed up for his school. She is sexier than ever. But something feels off, she isn’t quite the same trusting girl he used to know and Dane is determined to make her his own.
This fun, light read is super steamy as Miranda pursues Dane with surprising results. Miranda is torn between loving Dane and reminding herself of all the reasons not to trust, the lying, deceitful backstabber! She can’t believe she is falling for his old tricks again.
Any reader will root for Miranda, who wouldn’t want a little payback after years of humiliation? But for her to fall so quickly for Dane again seemed a bit fast and seemed improbable. Otherwise, I liked that Miranda stayed true to her character. It was fun to read Miranda twist Dane with her newfound seductress skills. On the other hand, Dane is a decent if sometimes rather clueless hero. But I liked how his character changed and how he proves himself worthy of Miranda’s tender heart at the end.
Fast, easy to read this contemporary romance is filled with misunderstanding and lots of steamy sex to keep readers amused and entertained.

Embrace of the Damned by Anya Bast
Paranormal Romance –May 1st, 2012
4 ½ stars
As the first book in the Immortal Brotherhood of the Damned, Anya Bast is off to a stunning start. As a brooding, yet sexy warrior finds his soul mate.
In a bloody act of retribution Broder Calderson awaits his death in ancient Norway only to be claimed by the trickster God Loki. He is now one of the Immortal Brotherhood and pay for his crimes. But Loki promises Broder his suffering will end in one thousand years if he is a faithful servant and revealed the woman of his dreams.
It is one thousand years later and Jessamine Hamilton is walking in a dark, parking lot. She has been warned rather cryptically by a stranger that she is being watched and to be careful. When she finds herself attacked soon after by a creepy man with fangs! But suddenly she is saved by the sexiest man on a bike she has ever seen and then getting hot and heavy with him after he rescues her! When he claims she is in danger and must stay with him for protection she is in disbelief, especially when he tells her that she is a witch with magical powers and he is over a thousand years old. Jessa tries to leave, but she has been targeted and Broder is determined to protect her. He wants to help her learn to control her powers. But Jessa’s heritage complicate matters as others seek to use her for their own purposes. For Jessa’s powers may help prevent the Apocalypse that Loki’s daughter Hel want to occur.
This was an intense romance that I could not put down. Broder is brooding and sexy. He has a funny, dark humor that makes him irresistibly charming. He longs for Jessa yet doesn’t know to court her. Instead he settles for kissing her out of her mind! Yet he is honorable, he tries to keep his hands away from her and give her time to ‘warm’ up to him. But their mutual attraction keeps getting in the way of his good intentions. Jessa has a lot of spunky attitude and admirably copes with the hectic paranormal changes in her life well. I liked how she stood up to the Brotherhood, especially Broder and wouldn’t just take their word and fall in line. As they both fight evil and their attraction the story heats up. The chemistry between them was believable and off the charts. I wanted to be Jessa and have Broder ravish me! The author does a wonderful job of creating a fully fleshed world of rugged Vikings and powerful Gods.
Anya Bast has created an original new world that will captivate and enthralled readers. If you are interested in Viking mythology and hunky, immortal heroes do not miss this book!

Under Fire by Catherine Mann
Romantic Suspense –May 1st, 2012
4 stars
Under Fire continues the author’s pararescuemen series. In this book, the budding romance between dog trainer, Rachel Flores and pararescueman Liam MaCabe comes to a heated conclusion as both race to find a corrupt official.
Rachel Flores trains dogs to search for missing victims and to aid those traumatized for therapy. One of the men who has a therapy dog for his PTSD is Brandon, who is a military cop. He has confided in her that he believes that there is a military traitor but knows one believes him due to his ‘incapacitated’ state. Rachel tries to help Brandon reach the authorities but without any success. When she starts getting mysterious threats over the phone, she runs to the one man who has dug into her heart, Laim MaCabe. Liam and Rachel worked together to find people during a devastating earthquake. While she was highly attracted to him, she was also wary of his history -three failed marriages. For months she has ignored his calls, but now she knows he is the only one who might be able to help her.
At first Liam is shocked to see Rachel hidden in his jeep. But shock soon overcomes gladness -he has missed her. However, when she comes to him with a crazy conspiracy theory, he is doubtful until he finds out on the news that her town house and the entire street she lived on has been decimated by an explosion. Soon they are on the run to save their lives and find the traitor.
Readers won’t need to read the prior book to enjoy the romance between Rachel and Liam, but I certainly felt that it added to the story. The author really portrays the characters with emotion and depth and pulls you into the story. Liam is very sympathetic. He really wanted his marriages to work but needed to mature to find a relationship that finally worked. He has a real connection with Rachel and I am happy that he found someone who matches him. Rachel is a little less developed but still an enjoyable character. This book also had another romance between Brandon who is wildly attracted to his dog sitter/caretaker, Catriona. They make a sweet couple as both like each other but are very insecure about themselves. Brandon feels that his PTSD makes him less attractive. This was a solid romance thriller, and I look forward to reading more in the series.
The men are hunky, honorable heroes but what I like best about this series are the genuine emotions and down to earth characters.

Lady Maggie’s Secret Scandal by Grace Burrowes
Historical Romance –May 1st, 2012
4 stars
Grace Burrows sparkles yet again in another heartfelt story between mature characters who find love.
Lady Maggie Windham is the well loved if illegitimate daughter of a Duke. Strong and independent she has taken care of herself, but this in direct contrast to the fear and anxiety she feels about some disturbing notes which she has recently been receiving. When her reticule is stolen, she worries that what it contains will cause ruin. So she hires the annoyingly confident and resourceful investigator Benjamin Hazlit to find it for her. Benjamin is intrigued by Maggie and wants to know exactly what was in that reticule that is upsetting Maggie. Maggie pulls on his need to help a damsel in distress even though the infuriating woman keeps pushing him away! But what could Maggie be hiding that is so dire and will Maggie finally open her heart and trust Benjamin?
What makes this story so attractive is the sensitive insight into each of the characters. I also liked that both characters are wiser and more mature than the usual regency romance. They have confidence and self assurance that makes their interactions more interesting and genuine. I felt for Maggie as she has put her life on hold because she fears her secret being revealed. And I was glad Benjamin was there as a solid presence for her to ultimately rely on. However, the story suffers from the mystery in the plot which I felt was a bit over dramatic. The payoff behind Maggie’s Scandal is a bit lackluster and even disappointing.
The emotion and sweet romance between the two characters is what really carries this story.

But these facts seem to blow by because the story is so darn funny and outrageous. The antics Damon gets into and the unpredictability of the storyline make it very amusing.

Poor Anne Hartfield doesn’t know what her new marriage will bring. Impoverished but coming from a titled family, her new husband is darkly enigmatic. No one knows very much about Leopold Bailey’s rise to riches except that he always seems to conquer those who might try to crush him. Due to his fabulous wealthy, he had gained the hand of Lady Anne in exchange for much needed funds. Neither knows each other well but Leopold wants her connections.
However, the sweet, mousy Anne has decided that she will no longer stay in the background as a proper lady should and begins to become more assertive. This new side to Anne fascinates Leo, and he finds that he can trust her. But his biggest secret is that his rise to wealth has been aided by the Devil who has marked him as a Hellraiser. And as such Leo has been given the skill to foresee the future. But Leo is in danger of losing his soul should he continue on this path of destruction. Can Leo redeem himself before it is too late or will the rest of the Hellraisers get to him first?
This is a fascinating new series. Each of the Hellraisers has certain powers according to their pact with the Devil. Each is marked and as they become more corrupted, the mark grows until their soul is all that remains for the Devil to take. Each Hellraiser has reasons for their pact. I liked how the author makes the ‘bad’ guy into the hero and makes the reader sympathetic to Leo’s unswerving need for money and status. His poor and troubled past drives him to want more power and control. Yet it is when he meets the gentle Anne who has surprising strength and faith in him, that he sees that there is more to life. At first, Anne really seems like a mouse and it was vastly enjoyable to read her break free and stand on her own, even against Leo. This romance has added drama as Anne is imbued with powers that help her fight the Devil and save Leo from a mysterious source.
This paranormal romance is compelling as men who have made a deal with the devil must make a choice between what they thought they wanted most and true love.

Paranormal Romance –April 24th, 2012
4 ½ stars
The blazing passion between the main characters is palpable as Rebecca Zanetti’s fires up the heat in her forth Dark Protector book, Hunted.
Conn has finally come back for his woman. As a long-lived and powerful vampire, he made a pact with the witches to stay away from his mate until she had matured and learned her magic. Now the wait is over. It has been a hundred years and he wants his woman.
But his fiery witch doesn’t want him. Or at least, Moira is busy with Coven business and her pride doesn’t want a man who would so easily leave her –no matter how much her body craves him. When Conn discovers that Coven members have been kidnapped and Moira is next on the list, there is no way he is leaving even if Moira says she wants him gone. As they work to find out who is behind the abductions, their passion flames out of control.
The Dark Protector series is thrilling to read. I liked how the author uses aspects of science to explain magic and makes it feel more realistic. The characters are all interesting to read, and I enjoyed how they were familiar with each other and often supported each other. It felt like a real community of vampire and witches. The witches and vampires have an uneasy truce, and this is often reflected in the volatile relationship between Conn and Moira. Both are mad for each other but wary and a bit untrusting too. In this book they must look past their long lived prejudices, work together and find the love that was denied them. I enjoyed the deep passion that had been building between them due to their long separation and longing for each other. As each grew stronger, they also develop confident personalities that made them more interesting to read. I loved that Moira has super witchy skills and Conn can really back her up. They were a fantastic, deadly force to reckon with. As they investigate the disappearance of other witches, they become closer. Throw in Council politics, a devious villain plus some serious magical a##kicking and this an explosive story not to be missed!!
This book has the perfect blend of heat, paranormal and strong characterization that will have you addicted to this series!

She now finds her herself stuck in a band of other decedents who don’t trust her and lead by a leader who happens to be a god himself. The leader is especially scary because as a god, he has the terrible ability to kill other descendents. As the ‘lucky’ witness to this feat Nikki is subtly being warned not to tell anyone else, or HER days are numbered. To add to matters her leader’s wife has been rescued from years of torture and is unstable and oddly jealous of Nikki! Nikki just wants to leave and pretend she has her old ‘human’ life back but an insane killer bent on revenge and using death magic wants Nikki out of the picture or else.
This fast paced Urban Fantasy starts right in the action as Nikki finds herself the target of a jealous wife and investigating a string of vicious murders. Nikki learns more about her powers of immortality and the underlying power struggle in the enemy camp. The author has created a phenomenally dazzling world where all is not as it seems and discovering the players through Nikki’s eyes had me turning the pages in rapt fascination. Nikki is a sympathetic character who just wants her old life back but admirably comes in to help others despite the cost to herself. This series also has a freshness as it centers on Greek mythology and how each descendent has powers or attributes of the God or Goddess they come from. I loved reading how each used their powers and some of the terrible side effects of not using their deadly abilities could be.
With the constant addition of new characters and centuries old history of backstabbing and power plays this book and any to follow are on my must read list.

No Longer A Gentleman by Mary Jo Putney
Historical Romance –April 24th, 2012
4 ½ stars
Mary Jo Putney continues her exciting lost Lord series with a beautiful spy sent to discover if a missing lord is imprisoned in France.
Lord Grey Wyndham’s charm, looks and wealth easily made him a favorite with everyone. But one disastrous affair with a married lady results in a jealous and vengeful husband imprisoning him in an isolated and run down castle.
It is ten years later and the intrepid spy only known as Cassie is called to her superior. She is asked to investigate the possibility of a rumor that an English lord is captive in a castle in France. However, France is dangerous territory since the revolution. Cassie must don a disguise as an elderly peddle selling her wares to infiltrate the castle. There she cleverly finds a way to rescue Grey and a French priest. As they make the perilous journey to safety, Cassie and Grey form an undeniable attraction. Although Cassie feels herself falling in love with Grey, she wonders if he just needs her as security. The Grey that she has saved is no longer the carefree and reckless man of his youth. Suffering and torture have hardened him and being with people is no longer natural but stressful for him. Cassie promises to stay with Grey as long as he needs her but knows that it may be destructive for her. When they get news that the French priest has been recaptured, Grey insists on returning to rescue him. Cassie is determined that he will not go alone. But they are going into a trap! Will they be able to save the priest and find a real love past their insecurities?
Grey is a tortured character. Cassie is his salvation. Both have suffered. Usually in a story I find one character more interesting than the other but the author imbues each with such depth that I became deeply involved with both. Grey is understandably traumatized and the road to recovery and courage and heartening to read. I wasn’t sure if her really loved Cassie of if she represented freedom and he wanted someone who could just accept him. It made the story more interesting. Cassie has a few secrets of her own even one that her superior is unaware of. This dark secret pushes her to work as a spy and made me admire her bravery after such devastating losses. It felt as bit as if the roles were reversed. Cassie was the dashing heroine who rides in to save the hero in distress. Cassie was extremely clever, competent and confident in herself. Her one big vulnerability was how she was still emotionally damaged. As Grey and Cassie struggle to heal themselves, the story becomes more involving.
A strong and resourceful heroine and a sympathetic hero make for a charged love story.

Twisted by Laura Griffin
Romantic Suspense - April 17th, 2012
4 stars
Twisted is the latest installment in the author’s thrilling CSI-like series only with more in depth forensic details to capture the imagination plus a healthy dose of romance!
Alison Doyle is new detective and one of the few females in the police force in her small town. Smart and ambitious she is eager to prove herself. After a long day she decides to treat herself to a pizza from the local store when she perceives a hold up in progress. She tries to distract the gunman and is nearly shot if not for the help of legendary FBI profiler Mark Wolfe.
Mark lives for his job but it has taken its toll of his life. Divorced and living on the go he has become experienced and cynical. Alison reminds of how fresh and motivated he used to be but she is many years younger and he doesn’t want a real relationship again. But he finds he needs her help and insight to solve a horrible string of serial killings. But the close they get to the killer, the more they find they can’t resist each other.
This was a bit of a departure from the author’s previous books. For some reason the murder/mystery seems to take more of the prime spot in this plot. This makes the story fast paced and intriguing to read but those who prefer more romance might be disappointed. The reason is because the hero is much older and does not want a relationship at all. He feels drawn to Alison despite himself. And because of this the romance seems to develop slower. However, this also made their relationship more realistic. Alison is the plucky, idealistic cop wanting to prove herself. She isn’t afraid to go for what she wants. More respect as a cop and Mark! As usual, the Dephi Center or high tech crime lab brings back old characters and adds a lot of interest for those who are CSI buffs.
Exciting procedural, with intelligent characters and a smart plot. Those who love crime. Mysteries and a little romance will find this book a guaranteed winner!

The Princess and the Peer is the first novel in the new and exciting Princess Brides trilogy about three young princesses and the twists and turns their lives takes.
The Princess and the Peer is about Princess Emma of Rosewald who has just received a summons from her brother to join him in London, accept her royal duty and marry the man her brother has chosen for her. Nick and Emma soon become enthralled with one another but eventually Emma leaves to return to her life as princess. But luckily Nick meets Emma again as the princess and both go through many difficulties in an effort to try and get their hearts desire.
I really loved the two main characters, Nick and Emma. I thought they were great together and had fantastic chemistry. It was a very fun and enjoyable story. The characters go through many challenges in their story. The many complications their relationship faces in an effort to figure out what they want and how to get it. The characters were not only fun to read together but on their own they had many interesting aspects that were enjoyable to read. I had a great time learning more about them! I also enjoyed the many additional characters that were in the novel and feel that they added a lot of lightheartedness to the story as well as an additional level of interest to the book.
Overall, I found the novel to be a fantastic mix of a fun and entertainment with fabulous characters that you will instantly love.

Paranormal Romance –April 3rd, 2012
4 stars
Lady Madeline Hayburn is pretty much considered on the shelf. She is beautiful and wealthy but very picky because after three seasons, she still hasn’t found a husband!
Maddie is pretty and popular but she doesn’t want to settle in marriage. Unfortunately, the one man who really attracts her is inimitably unsuitable. His name is Mr. Weston Hadley. But she can’t seem to stop staring at him or wanting to be around him. When she spies him turning into a wolf, she can’t believe her eyes. And that is when things only start to get wilder. For Wes can’t chance Maddie revealing his secret and those of his relatives. He snatches her up with some help to Greta Green to get a quick marriage. While Maddie may have secretly dreamed of Wes, this is not how she imagined getting married. However close quarters and an undeniable attraction bring matters to a satisfying if crazy romantic ride!
This was a sweet romance. Maddie and Wes each have a bit of a crush on each other and it is delightful to read how they yearn for each other. Both are kind, decent people who the reader will want to root for together. Each are fascinated by the other and often find themselves acting uncomfortable around each other due to their attraction. Wes is a bit of a romantic and reading him mooning for Maddie was endearing. I also liked how this adventure finally made the Lady Madeline Hayburn loosen her inhibitions and live life. I also found it romantic the way Wes willingly changes for her, too. I really enjoyed the characters particularly Maddie’s good friend Lady Sophia and I hope she finds love in the future! Another bonus is reading about Wes’s family and their affection for each other.
The author manages to bring in prior characters that will make fans of her series feel right at home. This warm, heartfelt book will delight the romantic hearted reader.

The Shape of Desire by Sharon Shinn
Fantasy –April 3rd, 2012
3 stars
Sharon Shinn writes a completely original and suspenseful fantasy in The Shape of Desire.
The heroine, Maria Devane is a young woman in love with an unpredictable man whose curse is to become a wolf. As Dante’s wolf takes over, so does his humanity and it can happen anytime, anywhere. Most of the book revolves around the drama of Maria’s internal struggle. She rather hopelessly loves Dante. Curiously enough, Dante is more of a secondary character who comes into her life whenever he pleases and turns her life upside down each time he comes back to her. Maria’s faith in Dante is unquestioned until she begins to hear of deaths that she suspects Dante may be responsible for. Maria must decide if Dante is really the man she thought she knew. But his absences and lack of any reassurance make her question their relationship.
The Shape of Desire is fascinating read if you love shifters and their mythology. As Maria opens up, she reveals more about their history as she learns it from Dante and it makes the reader want to know even more! However, while I found the mystery and tension in this novel to be absorbing, I had one difficulty with the book. I couldn’t like Maria. Maria is nice, loyal and sweet. But she is such a doormat for Dante. She can’t seem to break free of him and create her own identity until perhaps the end. She literally lives for him and when she will see him again. And Dante seems to take her for granted and stop by when the whim occurs. So there is total love and devotion on one side and his kind of wishy-washy commitment on the other. While their relationship is resolved at the end, I felt a deep sense of dissatisfaction. In the end, I found I couldn’t care for either of them. It felt like some unpleasant co-dependent relationship. And since everything is told through Maria’s point of view and her obsession with Dante, it sometimes felt a bit uncomfortable to read.
Imaginative and original, those who are fascinated by shifters will enjoy the new take but I did not connect with the love starved heroine.

Hunter’s Rise by Shiloh Walker
Paranormal Romance – April 3rd, 2012
4 ½ stars
Shiloh Walker’s latest electrifying Hunter romance builds upon the previous books but can easily be read by itself.
Toronto’s past eludes him. He was turned into a werewolf and adopted by a powerful witch. Now he is a Hunter, one who protects humans as well as paranormal creatures. But he is tortured by the blanks in his memories and seeks to vent his frustrations. A bit of a rebel, he is being threatened to be kicked out of his current base where he patrols. He is restless and unfocused until his next assignment -stopping and capturing the mercenary Sylvia James. Toronto is captured by her beauty and feels drawn to her for Sylvia is a beautiful vampire female vigilante who is cunning and mysterious.
Sylvia James is a mercenary for hire, but she picks her jobs carefully and does the work that others cannot do. She prides herself on bringing justice to those in need but little does she realize that her actions are being followed. For the Hunters want to prevent her from killing her next mark. And When Toronto and Sylvia meet, it is like oil and fire…smoldering heat.
This was a fabulous read. Not only does the author have a rich cast of old and new characters but the world is complex, compelling, and addictive. The passion that flares between Toronto and Sylvia is super hot. I couldn’t wait for them to get together. Both are extremely controlled, alpha characters confident in their powers and sexuality. But while both are strong, they carry painful pasts. Both are wounded characters who show rare vulnerability to each other. Toronto has a huge hole in his past that haunts him, and Sylvia has too many bad memories of abuse when she was defenseless and hopeless. It was fascinating to read Sylvia’s past and how she overcame her abuse to become a strong woman. It also made the reader realize how much she cares for the underdog and her deep drive to punish abusers to protect other innocents and not be a victim anymore.
Honorable and unconventional main characters share a deep passion and find surprising love as they seek to hunt down a monster.

He is happy behind a desk and out of action but when he is pulled into a mission to investigate a dying mob boss, he gets more than he can chew. He finds himself coming to her rescue and is surprised at the intelligent and gutsy woman behind her society mask. When her life is put in danger, Chuck finds himself protecting her and confessing his real identity. But can Jolynn forgive him and love him scarred and all?
This was a fast and furious read as Chuck and Jolynn fight danger and succumb to heated romance. They were both very likeable characters. I particularly liked Chuck because he is so decent and still unsure of himself after being tortured and just physically recovering. This mission pushes him to the extreme. Also, the surprising love and affection that grows between him and Jolynn is very touching and real. I also enjoyed the secondary romance between the gorgeous singer Livia and the older, widowed Colonel.
This story packs action and two romances in one, creating genuine characters that make you care for them.

5 stars
The Duke’s Perfect Wife is what fans of her Mackenzies series have been waiting for! Finally, the enigmatic and seemingly cold hearted Duke, Hart Mackenzie, finds love with the one woman he could never forget.
Hart is a widower, powerful and desired for his wealth as well as his prowess in the bedroom. But, he is a mystery. He has everything except the woman that he left behind and his goal to become the prime minister. So he is pleased when he is suddenly visited by Lady Eleanor Ramsey. Eleanor used to be Hart’s fiancée. Eleanor has been sent damaging photographs of a very naked Hart that would cause terrible scandal and ruin his chances of becoming prime minister. She wants to prevent this from happening by investigating the source and have him hire her for her services since her family is impoverished. But Hart has plans for much more, for he never forgot Eleanor and wants her back. But although Eleanor still cares for Hart, she is struck by how hardened he has become. Can he convince her to take a chance on him again or will danger keep them apart?
This was an extremely enjoyable read as the reader finally gets to know Hart. He has always been a rather distant character and getting to know the emotional man behind the mask was fascinating. It is interesting to read about their past engagement together and what Hart threw away. The impetuous Lady Eleanor Ramsey was easy to love - she is kind hearted and a bit quirky which makes her very endearing. She has a sweet innocence and believes in Hart. Because of this he is drawn to her. The hardships she has endured don’t get her down and I admired her feisty spirit. I also loved the appearance of the rest of Hart’s brothers and reading about their continued happiness with their family.
Reading this book was like coming home. Altogether heartwarming and enjoyable, this book is a must if you love Regency/Victorian romances.

Lacey Alexander knows to write a hot, HOT romance! In this erotic novel, the heroine must choose between her current love and a past boyfriend who broke her heart.
Mira Adams loves her boyfriend Ethan West, but his dedication to his new job pulls him away from her. As he distances himself from her, she has struggled with the feeling that they don’t belong together anymore and even started packing to leave him! But with her upcoming birthday Ethan has taken her away to spend time alone together and Mira feels like it is old times. But Ethan has another surprise in store for her celebration. A fantasy that Mira once told him. And he includes Mira’s former lover, Rogan! For Mira is going to experience the love of two men pleasuring her!

He had felt that Mira was too vanilla for him and this escapade has opened his eyes to the love he holds for her, including her new, exuberant sexuality! He tells Mira he wants her back. Mira must choose between the love of each man, who will she choose?
The author sure knows how to write sizzling sexual fantasies. Who wouldn’t want the love of two sexy men? Even though both men are opposites, they are equally attractive and compelling. Rogan is the bad dominant boy and Ethan is the nice guy with some surprises of his own! Mira struggles with her feelings and has a tough decision to make but I think she made the right one. The sex is super hot and erotic fans will definitely be getting hot under the collar! This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. There are several scenes with the three of them together but they never feel thrown in or forced. Although the premise/plot is very straightforward, the author manages to imbue real feeling and substance into her characters that make them feel three dimensional and not just props in between sex scenes.
Steamy, hot sex and genuine characters with real feelings and personality make this romance stand out among erotic books.

As the second book in the author’s Blood Moon Rising series, this story only get more complicated for the desirable heroine. She is torn from the shifter she loves into those of his arch enemy and brother who only want her for revenge. However, it is not necessary to have read the first book in the series.
In the first book Blood Law, Falon’s unique pedigree makes her highly attractive and the Lycan alpha Lucien Mondragon. For he quickly senses her as his mate. But in order to save her life, she is given to Lucien’s nemesis and brother, Rafael. Rafael is the bad boy who hates his brother because Lucien was responsible for killing his mate. Rafael only finds it fitting that he has now stolen Lucien’s mate for his own and plans to torture his brother with the knowledge that Falon now belongs to him!
This book has enormous drama and sexual tension as Falon loves and longs for Lucien but can’t help her mad attraction to the wild and merciless Rafael. And Rafael is ruthless in showing her the pleasure that only he can give her. Feeling she is betraying Lucien but knowing they cannot be together especially since he is to have a new mate. Falon feels despair and just wants to try to make the best of her life with Rafael. But old secrets and betrayals are revealed that ultimately put Falon in danger and lead to a blood curdling ending that only makes the reader wonder what else the author has in store for the next book! While I usually find inconclusive ending frustrating, this ending was so tantalizing that I am just glad there is another book to keep the series going. This series pulls you in and will be sure to make the readers feel that they are living in a real, vivid and brutal world of slayers, lycans and vengeance.
The author’s style of writing is edgy, sensual and magnetic. This over the top series is addictive and I can’t wait for more. Paranormal fans will find this book irresistible.

Cole is powerful and wealthy but he can’t forget the one woman he left. Ren and Cole were high school sweethearts but when his dominant side showed up in the bedroom and he inadvertently hurt Ren he could not forgive himself and left her.
It is years later and this early taste of domination stirs a fire in young Ren. She loves the sense of belonging and easily explores her submissive side. Her latest Master, Lucas is one that she has a comfortable relationship with. But when Lucas displays her at an exclusive club called The House, she is seen by Cole, who is shocked by his anger and jealousy. But most of all, he is shocked by his possessive need to have her for his own again. He persuades her current Master to loan her to him but what he really wants is Ren all for himself. And he will do anything he can to make her realize how much he wants her back.
This book is not for the vanilla reader! I found some sections a bit too shocking for me. Many of the scenes push the edge. Cole and Lucas have strong sex drives and are very dominant. And reading their intense focus on pleasuring Ren is sizzling hot. Those who are not afraid to explore their sensual side will enjoy this book. While this book has steamy sexual scenes, it is also dark and tormented as Ren is very conflicted with her feelings. Warning -this book gets very intense and emotional. This book also has an unconventional ending as Ren makes a surprising decision between her old and new Master.
Darkly erotic and surprising, this book is one that will draw you into Ren’s amazing sexual odyssey of submission and love.

This book was released before in an over sized book and is the first in a five book series. It is told in the first person, which works because the main character is fun and engaging to read. Clarissa of York is the bastard child of the king of England. Shipped off to Scotland to be the Scottish King’s mistress until she bears a son for him, Clarissa has no intention of submitting to fate quietly. Fortunately, or unfortunately for her, she receives help in escaping by Laird Broen MacNichols. Broen MacNichols doesn’t want the unpopular Scottish king to have a half-English heir. Together with the rest of the lairds, they plot to kidnap Clarissa to the Scottish highlands. The problem is Clarissa isn’t what he expects. He finds himself intensely attracted to her headstrong and plucky nature. But Clarissa’s royal bloodline invites trouble whether they seek it or not and other lairds are also eyeing her as a prize. Can Broen keep her safe? Can he convince Clarissa to trust him?
Clarissa is different from Mary Wine’s previous heroine. She’s definitely spunkier and much more, bitter, but that’s understandable given her precarious situation. She has always been prized for her bloodline and little else, which made me feel for her. That is also why she took such a long time to warm up to Broen even though he is protective and kind towards her. Broen is the typical rugged, alpha male who is honorable. Only he can give what Clarissa never had - unconditional love and a home.
Another solid Scottish romance from Mary Wine, this is a steamy read that fans of this genre will enjoy.

CrystalFire is the forth full length novel in the author’s Demon Slayers Futuristic series about men from an alternate world who hunt demons. These demons have invaded earth and they use their special swords to kill and protect. While it is not necessary to have read the prior book, many previous characters reappear particularly Eddy, the heroine from the first book DemonFire.
In CrystalFire, the handsome scholar and reluctant warrior Taron is on a hunt to find a powerful demon who is intent on taking his friend, Dax’s power and using it for evil purposes. He is accompanied by a lovely sprite named Willow who has been transformed into a human sized woman - a beautiful and sensual woman that Taron can’t stop thinking of! Willow has always had a crush on Taron and now she finally has the opportunity to seduce him… Taron wants Willow badly but a terrible prophecy he learned from his youth warns that if he ever falls in love he will experience unendurable pain, which makes him wary of love. But Toren finally realizes that Willow may be worth it all.
This was an amusing story. I liked that Eddy and Dax play prominent roles but my favorite sections were the grumpy sword that Taron carries named CrystalFire. The sword has a stubborn streak and is decidedly unfriendly but in a very funny way. I also liked that while Taron is intelligent and brave he doesn’t have the cocky self confidence that makes some alpha heroes a bit overbearing. Instead I found his doubts very endearing especially as he tries to fight the full frontal temptation of Willow who wants him at all costs. But once Taron decides to love, there is no holding back his devotion. Willow was a very lucky sprite!
This book is definitely one of my favorites in the DemonSlayer series and will not disappoint avid fans of the series.

The Seduction Of Lady X by Julia London
Historical Romance – March 27th, 2012

This latest novel by Julia London is another fun and enjoyable story in her well loved list of great historical novels.
The Seduction of Lady X tells the story of Lady Olivia Carey who is trapped in an unhappy marriage with Edward, Lord Carey. Despite her personal unhappiness she tries to make the most of her life. A bright spot in that is Harrison Tolly. He is Lord Carey's Steward. Harrison was born a bastard of a lord but he has tried to make himself a place at Everdon Court the home of the Carey family. When Lady Olivia's unmarried sister Alexa Hastings finds herself in a family way she runs to her sister for help. This results in a mix of confusion and dilemmas when Harrison offers himself up to save Lady Olivia's sister from a cruel fate. Unfortunately as Olivia and Harrison spend more time together they come to care more and more for one another. Can they stand to let this marriage take place?
The main characters of Lady Olivia and Mr. Tolly were a very remarkable. Both have different places in society. Each is unhappy and nobly tries to make the best of their situations. It was interesting to read how these characters dealt with the unexpected events and how they became closer as a result. I thought the story also had many appealing additional characters that created obstacles for the two main characters but also were exciting on their own.
Overall, the book was a great addition to Julia London’s solid historical novels.

Making him her pretend boyfriend drives him crazy but what happens when she finds that she wants to make it real? Will the feline who isn’t afraid of anything throw away the one man who can really appreciate her?
It was fun returning back to the old gang! This book is filled with mayhem and tons of laughs. I loved reading about the hockey team and the grouchy Novikov. Poor Crush has no idea what is store for him once Cella start ‘playing’ with him. Before he knows it he is caught up in her world and to his horror, doesn’t want to leave. Most of this story revolves around the wild antics of Cella as she drags Crush into her crazy life. The interactions between them kept me laughing. I also enjoyed reading about new characters that I can’t wait to more about. The mix of different shifters and their hang ups and the diverse cast of different nationalities make this a fun-filled book that is guaranteed to entertain.

Wildly original and inventive this daring romp filled with outrageous characters will attract readers of lively paranormals and Victorian romance.
Audacious and impetuous Miss America Jones just knows that her poor dead father was swindled by his slimy partner and she is going to prove it even if it puts her in danger. But the fearless young lady doesn’t count on soon becoming penniless and homeless. Desperate she convinces the eccentric investigator Phaeton Black into hiring her. After all, he did take terrible advantage of her and technically he does owe her. But the unconventional man takes some convincing. Besides he has been placed on a most peculiar case that involves a murderer who drains victims of their blood. So it looks like America will have to use her feminine wiles to convince him, if only he would pay attention! What America doesn’t realize is that Phaeton is only too aware of her. But the question is, does he want to be caught in her machinations and her arms?
Although highly improbable, the author somehow makes this fantastical book work. My only quibble is that the relationship between the hero and heroine doesn’t seem to always flow as you would expect. (Often the sexual scenes seem oddly thrown in.) But this certainly makes for surprising reading! Each character’s personality drives this story, particularly the often inscrutable Phaeton. Both have paranormal powers which I hope that the author will explore more fully in their upcoming book.
If you enjoy quirky characters, a fun Victorian playground and an imaginative mystery then this story will charm and bewitch you.

Lucy Drake is looking for her wastrel brother, only to find he is deeply in debt to Sinjin. She tries to bargain with the ruthless vampire but he shockingly asks for a fortnight in his bed! An innocent, but desperate to save her family from further ruin she agrees since now her father is dead. But she never imagines she will find unbridled passion in the arms of the enemy especially one with a hidden motive.
For Sinjin’s purpose in pursing her brother is to find out where the family has hidden his nephew and now that he has Lucy he thinks he can find the information from her or use her to get what he needs. But he soon discovers that Lucy is unaware of the evil in her family and he even more alarming, he finds himself falling in love with her sweet and giving nature. Soon he must find a way to save his nephew and get around his vow to kill her and her family. To add to matters, his nephew has unexpected powers that makes him a target for more devious villains.
This story is filled with many surprises. At first, I thought it would be a dark erotic paranormal light on content. But the author weaves such a tale of deep emotions that I found myself reading this book in one sitting. Blood Secret starts out darkly sensual as the extremely attractive and cunning Sinjin blackmails Lucy. Sinjin starts as a cold, ruthless and enigmatic man. I loved how he expertly seduces her and the reader with his magnet charms! But loved even more how the gentle Lucy break through his barriers and the reader gets to see the real man beneath his hard exterior. Lucy has been afraid of her dragon side and I enjoyed how Sinjin encouraged to embrace it and not be afraid of her dragon side. I also found the moments with the nephew very touching and I hope Sharon Page writes another book that includes him and Lucy’s sisters, too!
This book has everything –real romance, sizzling sex, and a darkly immersing plot. What a keeper!

Hot Under Pressure by Louisa Edwards
Contemporary Romance –March 27th, 2012
4 stars
Hot Under Pressure continues the sexy cooking series by Louisa Edwards. In her latest book, the two main characters are a married couple who divorced ten years ago. Both are reunited when they compete for the Rising Star Chef title. As the competition heats up, so does their long, thought dead relationship. But is it real or just part of the competition?
Henry Beck has had a hard life. Living in foster homes and fending formed himself. His is intense, pessimistic and knows if he wants anything he has to do it himself. Skye Gladwell is the exact opposite. She is sunny optimistic and perky. She never dwells on the negative or gest herself embroiled in turbulent emotions, unless it comes to her estranged husband Beck. When they both find themselves competing for the title, there is more than food heating up. Skye is seeing another man, one who she thinks may propose and has decided to finally ask Beck for a divorce. But Beck feels oddly reluctant. He finally proposes a bet. If she wins, a quick divorce, but if he wins he gets one last night with her before a divorce. When both find themselves locked in a cooler and seeking warmth, things heat up even more and Beck finds himself even more determined to win. As they are forced to spend more time together they will each have to figure out what means more to them. Do they have a chance to bring back a long thought lost love?
Louisa Edwards’s easy writing style makes Hot Under Pressure a fun, charming beach read. Both characters are likeable and surprised at how much they still care for each other. Each had to mature and open themselves up to each other so that their ‘new’ relationship could succeed. They broke up because they always fought and never communicated their feelings to each other and it was heartwarming to read how their reconciled with each other over past misunderstandings. I liked how Beck finally opens up to Skye and lets her love him.
This is a sweet read about second chances that contemporary fans will enjoy.

Afterglow by Cherry Adair
Paranormal Romance –March 20th, 2012
4 stars
Afterglow is a hot contemporary romance with lots of excitement and betrayal and a touch of magic! It is the second in her Lodestone adventure series.
Afterglow features strong characters and sizzling hot chemistry! The tension between the main characters is off the charts as the hero begins the book feeling the heroine has betrayed him. When Rand Maguire’s security at a high profile wedding is infiltrated and the guests are drugged by an extreme sexual aphrodisiac, he sends for help only to find his ex lover and betrayer Dr. Dakota North sent to help him. Rand believes that Dakota is responsible for the death of his mother. Distrustful but still half in love with her, he fights his attraction and reminds himself of her duplicitous nature.
When Dakota is assigned to aid a call from help by her former boyfriend Rand, she is hesitant but knows she is the only one with knowledge to help him. She feels responsible, for she was crucial in the making of the drug which was used to poison the guests at the wedding. But working with Rand is difficult. Not only did he not believe in her innocence but he broke her heart. And worse of all, she isn’t over him. Can they find out the truth and reconcile their differences?
This was a tension filled romance as Rand is very antagonistic toward Dakota in the beginning of the story. Though he has strong reason not to trust her, I kept thinking that that Rand’s hostility towards Dakota dragged on longer than necessary. I feel he should have trusted Dakota sooner because I really enjoyed them working together more as a team. Dakota is a courageous character. She still harbors deep feelings for Rand and is very hurt at his lack of trust, but still works to help him and not take his anger too much to heart. As they try to pool their resources and track down the mastermind behind the drugging, they survive many adventures. I was particularly fascinated by Dakota’s secret abilities to act as a human GPS and track the villain. I kept hoping the author had explored/used more or her paranormal abilities in the story. The ending was shocking and readers will not be disappointed.
Fast-paced and exciting, this high octane romance is what readers of Cherry Adair have come to know.

Darkness Undone by Jessa Slade
Paranormal Romance –March 6th, 2012
4 ½ stars
In Darkness Undone, Jessa Slade continues her Marked Souls series with an unlikely and bookish hero and a fragile appearing heroine with a lost memory.
Sidney Westerbrook is on a mission to prove himself to his esteemed father - a Bookkeeper for the Marked in London. But Sidney soon finds himself finds himself caught up in more than recordkeeping when he unexpectedly meets a new and undocumented talya named Alyce who is demons possessed. But Alyce does not know her history or what she is! The only thing she knows is that she has survived mental and physical abuses. When she sees Sidney, she instantly realizes that he is the key to her sanity. However, Sidney is merely human and Alyce is a prize for the other demon possessed men. Although Sidney is extremely attracted to Alyce, he knows she is better off away from him. Still, he will do his best to help her uncover her past and integrate with the rest of the Marked.
This was a stellar novel. I was really taken by the humble and earnest Sidney. He wants to prove himself but feels a bit intimidated by the powerful men he works with. When he finds and befriends Alyce, he is amazed at how much he likes her and how much she likes him! Alyce appears at first to be a sweet, naïve, lost orphan. You want her to find her past and put the pieces of her life together. Sidney seems to the best companion because he is bookish and not intimidating, and Alyce knows she can really take care of herself. It was fun to read the ‘small’ and fragile looking Alyce be a bit of the aggressor as she tries to seduce Sidney. But this is because she feels safe and connected to him, and poor Sidney keeps trying to fight his attraction to her. However, Sidney has surprises and depths of his own which make this story more complex. This book is definitely not what is seems from the beginning!
Two characters embarking on a journey of self-discovery, passion and the fight against evil make for absorbing and powerful reading.

Now or Never by Michele Bardsley
Paranormal Romance -March 6th, 2012
4 stars
Now or Never continues the fascinating series in the author’s new Wizards of Nevermore books. The various Houses of magic with various powers and personalities easily pulled in this reader. In this story, the devious, avaricious and amoral Raven House prey on a unsuspecting young woman in their bid for power.
Lenore Whyte’s life has been a hard one. Although she loved her mother, her paranoia kept her on the move and prevented her from finding a real home and love. When her mother dies, Lenore strikes out on her own to find unfettered happiness only to be suddenly kidnapped! Unfortunately, Lenore has latent powers that she is unaware of and those who know of them want to exploit them to cause unimaginable havoc and destruction.
Sheriff Taylor has been having disturbing dreams of a woman he has never met. Then, he is pulled by an inexplicable force to go to the woods he protects and finds a woman (who looks exactly like the woman he has dreamed about!) near death from a magical ceremony gone awry. Taylor is forced to question his distaste for magic and the woman who attracts him like no other.
The uncovering of Lenore’s past really drew me into this book. Lenore is just trying to find a stable life where she can be content but her hidden powers and unstable upbringing have made this difficult. Taylor is a decent man who comes to her rescue and wants to protect and finds that his views of magic must change if he is to find love with Lenore. I wanted them to be together and find their full potential. Not only are the main characters extremely sympathetic but the rest of the characters make this book a vibrant read. Characters from the previous book return and play a large part. It was fun to read how their lives are still being complicated by a very powerful and interfering mother-in-law! This book reeks with charm as all the zany new and old characters make this a colorful and amusing read.
Fun and vivacious, this book features two engaging and sympathetic main characters with a colorful cast of supporting characters that will be guaranteed to keep you smiling.

The Surrender of Miss Fairbourne by Madeline Hunter
Historical Romance- March 6th, 2012
4 ½ stars
The Surrender of Miss Fairbourne is another superb historical romance, Fans of Madeline Hunter will enjoy the sparks between the independent heroine and the hero who thinks he knows what is best for her!
Emma Fairbourne’s father died and while she mourns him deeply she is also very anxious. He owned and ran a prestigious Fairbourne auction house. And with his death it appears that the auction house must close. But Emma has other ideas. She learned quite a bit from her father and is convinced if she persuade her father’s employ to pose as ‘taking over’ she can work behind the scenes. However, her father’s secret partner, Darius Alfreton, the Earl Southwaite wants to close the auction house and expects Emma to comply. But he soon finds himself bewildered, and ardently fascinated with Emma and agreeing to help her throw a make-it or break-it last auction despite himself!
The two main characters are simply too fun to read!! I loved how they are both intelligent people who are trying to get their own way and when they lock horns about closing the auction house (Darius) or keeping it open (Emma) the book gets so very entertaining. Their confrontations never seemed contrived or forced to add tension. But as they spend more time together you can just feel the attraction just blooming! I liked that Darius at first doesn’t want to like Emma but finds her too irresistible and soon discovers himself befuddled and agreeing to help her! Darius has a bit of a hero complex and finds he wants to save/rescue Emma. Emma finds Darius arrogant and far too handsome. She definitely knows her own mind and is a no-nonsense type of girl. There is also the added mystery behind Emma’s presumed dead brother Robert which gets in very hot water that adds a lot of suspense to the story.
Utterly charming and engaging, this book will keep you entertained until the last page!!

Oracle’s Moon by Thea Harrison
Paranormal Romance –March 6th, 2012
4 ½ stars
As the third in her Elder Races series, this book quickly begins picking up after the last. The beleaguered, Grace Andreas has recently been ‘promoted’ to the Oracle when her sister and her brother-in-law die in a tragic accident.
Poor Grace is: permanently scarred/disabled, in huge debt and now raising two sweet children she is exhausted and barely keeping her head above water. Taking care of her infant nephew and precocious niece drain her even though she loves them. Grace is seriously worried about money and when a powerful vampire and her shifter boyfriend demand her services she reluctantly agrees. But they leave behind a troublesome guest who won’t leave! An arrogant and controlling genie who think he knows everything and disapproves of Grace! Grace finds the annoying genie attractive, but can’t stand how he keeps interfering with her life.
Khalil is all powerful and totally bored. When he meets Grace he is fascinated by her and quickly besotted by the children she cares for. At first he disapproves of her caretaking skills but soon realizes that Grace is poor and has permanent physical damage from an accident. Both plague her and he finds himself wanting to help despite the fact that genies NEVER give anything for free. When he begins to ‘baby-sit’ the two children he finds someone snooping though Grace’s things and questioning her sister ‘accidental’ accident.
This was a highly entertaining and emotional read. Grace is tired; she wants the best for everyone but doesn’t take care of herself. As the Oracle, she has vast powers and she soon discovers she has a hidden well of strength that may change how the Oracle is perceived forever. She is the underdog you want see overcome all her obstacle. At first Khalil was a bit annoying for me because he is so unemotional and rational. He won’t do anything unless there is a bargain stuck. It was very moving to read this ancient being become more human and want to do things because he cares -not to gain something. Khalil becomes even more sympathetic because he has a child who is scarred and he longs to heal her and love her. Both characters have a lot of depth that really pulled me into their lives. But this book also has a lot of humor. It was especially hilarious when Khalil takes Grace on a date that goes wrong and Grace leaves him!
This paranormal romance was fun and emotional satisfying. It builds on prior books which make it more compelling. As a result, I am getting very involved in the author’s world. But this book can easily be read by itself. I highly recommend it and the prior books!

So much that you want them to find some happiness. Both of their lives have only been duty to their lord or family. Neither has had the freedom to live each of their lives. The villain in this story is utterly ruthless and devious. He is jealous of Simone and wants her to suffer. Dying Wish by Shannon K. Butcher
Paranormal Romance –March 6th, 2012
4 ½ stars
In Dying Wish, Shannon Butcher continues her mesmerizing Sentinel Wars with the traumatized Jackie Patton.
Jackie has been tortured for her blood. Taken from her human life as a successful business woman and used to feed the evil Synestryn due to her special blood, she only wants to survive and take back control of her life. However, her blood does make her special because the few that have it can feed a starving race and it makes her a potential mate for the dying Theronai warriors.
The Theronai warriors are a vanishing breed. Decimated but still struggling to fight evil, many feel their life is only war. Only a special woman can mate with them and relieve their eternal suffering and bring them back to life. They hope that Jackie will choose one of them, but when Jackie announces that she wants to leave, their leader is shocked and gives her an ultimatum for her ‘fredom.’ Jackie is forced to choose a mate and promised that once she chooses she can leave. Under duress, Jackie decides to choose the coldest and hardest among them. She chooses Iain for she believes that Iain does not want her like the other Theronai warriors and she knows she could never love a man so cold. Jackie is relieved when they let her join normal humasn again but is extremely annoyed when Ian insists on ‘protecting’ her. Iain might find Jackie vexing and even as he realizes she could be his salvation, he knows he is too far gone. However, he hopes to save her for one of his needier brothers. But their unexpected attraction for each other causes complication even as they find themselves on the run from Synestryn.
I really liked Jackie. The reader can’t help feeling sympathy for her and admire her determination to try to forge her own life even if it is not realistic. I wished that she could have a normal life again, but then the book wouldn’t be half as exciting! Iain is portrayed as a wintry killing machine, but he is much more. It only takes Jackie to crack the frozen walls that surrounds him. Iain is interesting because he has a past of disappointment when his ‘true love’ was murdered. Although the many years have stopped him from actually feeling the loss, he knows no one can replace his lost love. He feels a deep attraction to Jackie but knows his soul is dead and wants to save her for one of his brethren who still has hope. However, the surprising sparks between Jackie and Iain cause complications. When Jackie temporarily bonds with Iain to help him heal after a deadly encounter with the Synestryn their relationship only gets deeper. This was an interesting story because neither character wants a relationship at all! But both are attracted to each other despite the excuses and reasons they try to tell themselves and each other. For fate seems to want them to be together and it was fun to read them try to escape it.
Lots of tension and two main characters who fight love yet still find it together makes for exciting and highly entertaining reading.

A Seal in Wolf’s Clothing by Terry Spear
Paranormal Romance –March 6th, 2012

What do you get when you mix sexy werewolf shifters with Navy SEALs – one hot and fun read!
Meara Greymere is werewolf on the prowl. Her clock is ticking and she wants a strong mate. With her overprotective brother, Hunter finally gone, she has the place to herself. Meara plans to rent out her family’s cabins to eligible wolves but her plans go awry when the sexy and interfering friend of her brother unexpected arrives. Finn Emerson is an annoying bundle of trouble, and she can’t wait to get rid of him as soon as possible.
Too bad Finn isn’t leaving! He is staying to protect his friend’s sister because there is a group that is targeting his entire SEAL team and their relatives. With Hunter gone, he feels it is duty to watch over the beautiful and impetuous Meara. But he finds Meara caught up in her own devious plans that don’t include him. When he realizes she is looking for a mate, he also discovers he doesn’t want her to choose anyone else but him. But first he must protect her, but does that mean full body coverage?!
Terry Spear excels at bringing humanity to her characters. Although they are super powerful shifters and SEALs, her heroes are down to earth and extremely likeable. Finn is no exception. He almost seems to have the boy next door feel. He comes with the noble aim of trying to protect his friend’s sister from an unknown assassin but finds himself caught in the trap of Meara’s lovely eyes! Meara knows her own mind and is prowling for a mate. (I like a woman of action!) But Meara is really surprised when she finds the annoying friend of her brother getting in the way, on her nerves, and being extremely irresistible! When the assassin does target Meara, the stakes get higher and so does the intensity of the relationship between Finn and Meara. I really liked how both characters changed their opinions of each other. Finn sees himself as the protective older ‘brother.’ And Meara finds him an annoying presence that is bad influence on her real brother. As both grow to care for each other, I really found myself invested in their relationship and enjoying their sweet and caring journey to love. Although this story has a serious and dangerous theme I found it more light reading that was entertaining, rather than grim.
If you are looking for a quick and fun paranormal romp with entertaining characters that are easy to care for, this series will quickly become a favorite.

Rikki is a rogue assassin. She plays by her own rules and being part of the Assassin Guild cramps her style. When her latest assignment hits a hitch, she finds herself saved by a decadently attractive and rich playboy. They share a steamy night of passion.
But the playboy’s actual name is really Misha, and he is a by-the-book Guild Assassin who was actually hired by Rikki for this latest mission! Misha’s mother was a trained assassin who was responsible for killing Rikki’s father and when Rikki finds out his true identity, she want a bit of revenge.
But their passion for each other can’t be denied and when Rikki is asked to make a hit on the Guild itself, Misha asks for her help uncovering the culprit.
Fun, campy and a bit outrageous I finished this book before I knew it. Rikki and Misha’s past make them interesting characters. I was particularly drawn to Misha who seemed very vulnerable behind his tough exterior and felt that he needed Rikki to give him the strong support he never had. As a rogue, Rikki has her own code of ethics which make her a likeable rebel who is a bit rough around the edges compared to Misha who is more polished and has a suave style. Both complemented each other and I could feel the chemistry between them. I also amused that they were very clever and how they tried to outwit each other early on in the story which make it very funny to read.
Light and entertaining, this book is sure to be an enjoyable read for those who love futuristic romances and two smart and competitive main characters.

Safire and Neil were deeply in love, until Neil made the ultimate mistake and Safire ended their relationship. Four years later, Safire returns to her home only to find that she has moved into the same apartment building as Neil. Safire is still heartbroken over Neil’s infidelity and is not happy to find him as one of her neighbors. Neil is ecstatic to finally see her and sets out to win her heart all over again. Although Safire never got over Neil, she is terrified of re-living the hurt and attempts to protect her fragile emotional state.
This plot was enjoyable and very realistic, as I could picture many women in the same situation. I was happy with the amount of details that were given to Safire’s past and her feelings. However, I felt that Neil’s character was not as in depth. There was also a lot of repetition in this story. All of the love scenes seemed to be pretty much the same, just happening in a different place. Although I did like the idea behind the story, I found myself getting bored about half way through, because I was not discovering anything new. Due to all of the repetition, the lack of character development in Neil’s character and the editing errors throughout the book, I am giving this book three stars.
It is a cute story and worth reading, but I do not believe that I would read another book by this author anytime soon.
