Sometimes a Rogue by Mary Jo Putney
Historical Romance -Aug. 27th, 2013
4 stars
In Sometimes a Rogue, Mary Jo Putney continues her popular historical Lost Lords series. As a courageous twin sister saves her pregnant sister and as a result is kidnapped herself!
Sarah Clarke-Townsend is the twin sister to Mariah, the Duchess of Ashton. When a vile plot to steal the pregnant Duchess is discovered by Sarah she immediately hides her precious sister and takes her place! Soon she finds herself bound for Ireland to be used for political leverage. But all is not lost. For her desperate brother-in-law, the Duke, asks the help of his trusted friend and Bow Street Runner, Rob Carmichael.
Rob is used to tracking and finding people and he is hot on Sarah's trail. He rescues her but her capturers are not easily foiled and they find themselves shipwrecked on the way back. Soon the find themselves in a place that holds dark memories and heavy burdens for Rob. Can they help each other and find love?
This was a fun romp! Sarah is plucky and resourceful. I liked how she sacrifices her safety for her sister and is able to hold her own against her abductors. They never suspect that she is not the Duchess! Rob is the perfect foil. He is by birth a lord but has cast aside his title and his attachments to his old life. He has built a life that he is proud of. When he meets Sarah he is impressed by her courage, heart and loveliness. On their dangerous journey back to England Sarah and Rob find a deep respect and affection for each other. However, both lost their hearts before and they don't know it they can love again. Although the care for each other and find support with each other love is another story. When circumstances force them to pretend to be engaged the story gets more interesting as they begin to think of each other in an entirely new way. This story as well as the relationship between the two main characters will grow on the reader and make it all the more sweet and touching. I especially liked the secondary characters which bring added liveliness to the book.
This romantic historical adventure features two admirable and charming characters that are easy to love.

Must Love Fangs by Jessica Sims
Paranormal Romance -Aug, 27th, 2013
4 1/2 stars
Must Love Fangs is the third in the author's fabulously funny, Midnight Liaisons books. This series is about a dating service exclusively for paranormal beings but that is staffed by humans.
Marie Bellavance has a secret, she is dying from a rare disease that prevents her from sleeping. Feeling desperate she suddenly realizes that she can escape her fate if she can persuade a paranormal to turn her so she will be healed. While a shifter would be great, Marie soon discovers bad tensions in the shifter community when a human is turned without permission and a hold is put out on any further 'changes.' So hopes of finding a shifter to turn her go up in smoke. But Marie soon realizes that vampires also have the ability to change her and heal her condition. Although it is against the dating service policy, she decides to look through the old dating files at work. With the intention of finding a vampire that maybe amendable to change her into a vampire. However, her luck turns for the worse as each vampire seems to be worse than the other. To add to her troubles, the sexy were-cougar Joshua Russell always seems to be showing up and preventing her from persuading the vampires to turn her. Frustrated by his distracting, if sweet presence Marie soon finds she is beginning to care for Joshua! But Marie is running out of time and she has to find a 'cure' soon. But if she does find a vampire to turn her she will be his vampire bride for eternity. And any any future with Joshua will never be realized.
This lighthearted, quick read is a pure enjoyment! The characters fly off the page with their zany antics and sparkling dialogue. I loved reading Joshua's hot pursuit of the uptight Marie. As he tries to constantly tempt her and she keeps shooting him down. But the reader knows that Marie really does care for the Joshua but is afraid of living because she knows she is dying. Plus she can't believe that the sexy Joshua might really care for her! It was wonderful to read how the playful Joshua worms his way into Marie's heart. As they fall in love their obstacles seem to mount. Can Joshua go against his pack or will Marie take it out of his hands and find a vampire to turn her instead? I didn't want this book to end.
For sheer entertainment value this exhilarating and funny read will have you spellbound.

Turn and Burn by Lorelei James
Contemporary Romance –Aug. 6th, 2013

Turn and Burn is the latest, sizzling installment in the author’s popular Blacktop Cowboys series.
Tanna Barker’s fabulous lifestyle as a world champion barrel racer comes to an abrupt halt with an injury and the death of her horse. Now she has nightmares and is terrified of horses. She lives on the road in a trailer and ‘picks up’ men to idle the time. Then her friend offers her a job at a ranch resort. But on the way she has one last fling. A hot an steamy night with a man who wants more. However, Tanna is through with love and men. She leaves him in the dust. Only to find him as a regular visitor to the ranch where she works! For August Fletcher is the area veterinarian.
Fetch can’t get the sassy cowgirl Tanna out of his head. He regrets not getting her number. When he spies her at the Split Rock Ranch he is determined to get her attention and keep it. But Tanna has demons in her past. Trust and love are not easy for her. Plus Fletch’s work keeps him constantly on-call and on the road. Can he woo Tanna and show her that her heart is safe with him?
Steamy and sexy this book starts out a riot as Tanna is on her way to her new job. Stopping at a bar she is propositioned by several men that she hilariously turns down. But when she meets Fletch the sparks fly and soon they are hot and heavy! I liked that Tanna was feisty and smart. She has a comeback for everything and is guaranteed to keep readers very entertained. (Although I did find Tanna frequent cursing a bit irritating to read after a while.) Fletch seems like a low key, loyal man who is too nice. However, when it comes to Tanna, Fletch is in hot pursuit and very persuasive. I liked how Fletch pursues the reluctant Tanna. Tanna realizes that she is wounded and a relationship is the last thing she needs to deal with. But Fletch’s kindness and hot body are too tempting and soon she finds herself craving his company. (As usual, the sex scenes are super steamy!) As Tanna grows and tries to get over her fear of horses and her past
disappointments, I cheered for her.
Although not my favorite in the series, this is a very satisfying and sexy western that readers will love.

Heart Fortune by Robin Owens
Paranormal Romance –Aug. 6th, 2013
4 stars
Quiet, engaging and romantic. This futuristic book is part of the author popular Celta series about descendants of crashed space explorers that develop magical powers.
Jace Bayrum is a decent, carefree rogue who will never settle down. He isn’t looking for attachments and tells himself that love is for fools. After his father died saving his cold mother’s life he vows never to open his heart again. But this adventurer doesn't count of the determination of his destined Heartmate, Glyssa Licorice. Few people on Celta are lucky enough to have a Heartmate and most wish for one. For their Heartmate completely complements them and even increases their magical abilities. But Glyssa has discovered that restless Jace does not seem to want her! However, Glyssa has decided that she will pursue him and finds a job on an important archaeological dig where Jace works. There she hopes to tempt him to open his heart and bond with her. But Jace is very resistant and cynical towards relationships and only when they are in danger does he face the choice to be with Glyssa or face the consequences of a life without her. Can he be brave enough to make himself vulnerable and see the possibilities before it is too late? Or will his stubborn pride hurt him and those he has come to love?
As with all of the book in the author’s series, the characters are very human and it it their imperfections that complement each other and make their relationship all the more sweet and interesting. It is rare for Heartmates to avoid each other. Reading Jace give up on love was often frustrating and even bittersweet. Jace had a hard head and maybe a harder heart. For Glyssa is a kind, loving woman and nothing like his despised mother. As Glyssa courageously tries to tempt him Jace he must face his fears and the potential of a life that he never expected. Their relationship is poignant to read and sometimes I felt that Jace wasn't quite good enough for Glyssa. The highlight (as always) with this series are the mischievous Fam animals who can communicate telepathically with their owners. Glyssa find a wily, young and troublesome fox and Jace finds himself with a surprisingly practical bird. The Fams bring such joy to the story that I admit to rushing a bit to read their entertaining sections. They remind me of Jayne Castle’s cute yet terrifying dust bunnies! As both characters are pulled into the mystery behind a series of explosions on the site. Suspicions concerning Jace’s possible guilt heats up the story and adds a lot of suspense.
This magical fantasy world of mischievous pets and destined soulmates is perfect for the dreamy romantic!!

Caught Up in You by Roni Loren
Contemporary Romance –Aug. 6th, 2013

Caught Up in You is part of the author’s erotic On the Edge series. As a woman who can’t submit finally finds a man to dominate her!
Kelsey LeBreck dreams of going to culinary school. But tuition is steep and working as a waitress won’t make her the money she needs. When she is threatened at work she decides to return to her more lucrative ‘old’ job… as a dominatrix. But to train others in the exclusive club where she works and make even more money she will have to find someone to dominate her so she knows what it is like to submit. However, Kelsey is scared of giving someone power over her, until she is given the option to be dominated by the man of her dreams. Ultra wealthy and sexy, Wyatt Austin!
Wyatt has always secreted admired and lusted over Kelsey and he used to go the café where she worked every morning just to see her. When she disappeared suddenly he tracked her down and was shocked to discover her at a private BDSM resort. As a dominant he is more that willing to show her the ropes!
Wyatt and Kelsey have a sizzling attraction that burns the pages. And as Kelsey finally lets herself go things really heat up. Kelsey has a troubled past and when Wyatt propositions her to help him at a big social event things get even more complicated. I really liked that Wyatt doesn’t care what Kelsey has done in the past. He sees her as the strong person she has become. I also enjoyed that Wyatt also must face personal issues with his over-bearing father and find his own freedom. In this book, Kelsey comes into her own. I liked her honesty with Wyatt and her willingness to change. Both of these characters appear opposites but it is their ability to transform, support each other and put their past behind them which make them perfect for each other. While I expected more steamy scenes this book still packs a lot of heat!

Midnight by Ellen Connor
Paranormal Romance –Aug. 6th, 2013
4 stars
Midnight is the second in the Dark Age Dawning series. It is an exciting apocalyptic romance that reminded me of the movie Mad Max. The world the author has created is untamed and so are the fearless characters. I thought this series would follow the characters from the first book but it actually only includes one of the characters from a prior book and does not need to be read in order.
Rosa is trying to keep her small community thriving. But after the Change, the world has become a barren wasteland. When a handsome and mysterious stranger named Chris arrives, she has a feeling that he is hiding something. But even worse, an outside gang is intent on taking over her town and have been attacking the community. Rosa is proud of her home and her role as leader or `jefa' but even her second in command seems to want more power than she is willing to give. Beset on all sides, will having the stranger Chris in the community cause more harm than aid? She does not trust his willingness to accept shifters who are dangerous and killed her brother.
Chris is running away. He no longer cares about his life and drifts from place to place. When he finds Valle de Bravo, he is curious and attracted to the fiery leader Rosa. But he senses this small oasis will not last long with the violence that surrounds it. However, he still decides to stay for the comfort of lodging and food. Soon he finds himself becoming alarmingly attracted to Rosa and wanting her, but can he trust her with his darkest secrets?
If I hadn't known that Ann Aguirre was the author of series, I would definitely like it. But knowing she wrote it made it fall a bit short. The writing and characters are solid but it lacks the complexity of her Grimspace series. This series is definitely less dense and a lighter read. I would say this is in between her other books written under Ava Gray, which are more heavily romance. I definitely liked this book better than the first book, Nightfall. It was exciting to read the infighting within the community and the attacks from the outside gang. Everyone seems somewhat suspicious. The romance between the two main characters was convincing, and I really liked how the hero wants to assert himself but respects Rosa and doesn't try to control her or take over her leadership role. The heroine was particularly strong and clever and I liked that she had the guts to lead but still was feminine.
Ultimately this story is about hope and humanity's resilience to survive. The paranormal elements were more peripheral as the small community tries to sustain itself. Definitely for those who enjoy movies like Terminator or the futuristic, post-apocalyptic genre.

Fast-paced and exciting, this hot new Bad Boys has some surprises!
Olivia is a sweet girl but she has a terrible history of hooking up with 'bad boys.' And sexy Cash, is no exception. But this time her latest boyfriend seems to really care for her and actually seems responsible! The problem is that Cash's father is in jail and he is being threatened by the Russian mob. As Cash's newest girl, Olivia is being targeted, too. To keep her safe Cash must act suspicious if he wants to protect the woman he has come to love. But with Olivia's already fragile trust issues can they find a true relationship? Especially when an unexpected stranger from Cash's past returns and causes major havoc.
This book was a quick, beach read. Although it is part of a series it can easily be read as a stand alone. The story is told in the first person and I found it a bit disconcerting since each chapter switches between Olivia's point of view and then Cash's point of view. Although I liked the insight of reading each person's feelings and motivations it made the book flow less smoothly. I also expected a lot more sex scenes so this book seemed a bit 'tamer.' However, the attraction between the two main characters is very apparent and there was no doubt that they belonged together! Cash doesn't really seem like a 'bad boy' at all. Although he is sexy, and has an edge I always felt Olivia was safe with him. He truly cares for her and doesn't want to mess on their relationship... like everything else in his life. I particularity liked reading Cash's story seeing insights into her behavior. In fact, I wouldn't have minded if most of the book is centered around Cash, he is a fascinating character. Olivia also has issues. But they were less dramatic and mostly with her stern mother who puts her down. It was nice to see Olivia stand up for herself and her relationship with Cash. I am still confused about the Russian Mob and how Cash could maintain his double identity but overall this was a satisfying read.

Allison Kent's latest Unforgettable is part of her Dalton Gang series. This book will draw her readers in with its steamy sex and brooding but very honorable bad boy Boone!
Boone Mitchell has been by turns disgusted and secretly envious of his two friends finding love. He is happy for them but frustrated that they have less attention to help him maintain the run down farm they all inherited together. Trying to keep up with repairs and never having a break are taking their toll on Boone. And with their lack of funds, he may have to make sacrifices to keep the ranch going. When he is hoodwinked into attending a dance by his sister, Boone finds the delicious company of the local reporter Everly Grant. A big time city girl who transplanted to the area. She is a close friend of his sister and when she finds Boone drunk as a skunk after the dance, she decides to take pity on him. She takes him to her home and lets him sleep it off. But when Boone wakes up the attraction between him and Everly heats up and soon they find themselves hot and heavy! But Everly has a past with an abusive ex. and this is the reason she ran to Crow Hill. To hide and lick her wounds. Plus Boone isn't sold on a exclusive relationship. When Everly 's boss asks her to write an expose about the infamous Dalton gang (which Boone was a part of in his wild youth), they are soon finding ways to interview in very close and personal ways. But will Boone's notorious past and Everly’s difficulty trusting men get in the way of love?
This was one hot and sexy romance! Allison Kent sure knows how to write a winner. And reader will love Boone if they didn't already. Boone's quiet honor and tough strength make him perfect for Everly. I also liked how he let he take control in the bedroom sometimes! There is plenty of steamy sex and the characters are smokin' together. The back story behind Everly’s abusive past make Everly very sympathetic and you will want her to finally find someone she can feel safe and happy with. Boone is still tortured by some of his deeds from his wild youth even though they were most good-natured pranks. When he meets someone from his past he is finally able to resolve issues he didn't know he had. And this wouldn't have been possible with out Everly! I loved how the both of them grew together and helped each other.
If you love hot cowboys and a good yarn this book will not disappoint!

Maggie's Man by Lisa Gardner
Contemporary Romance –Aug. 6th, 2013
4 stars
Maggie's Man a re-print of the author's Family Secrets Trilogy written under her pseudonym, Alicia Scott. This book focuses more on the romance and suspense rather than mystery. As a desperate con breaks out, kidnaps an innocent young woman and seeks revenge against his unjust sentencing.
Cain Cannon's only thoughts have been of revenge. He want to punish his extremist brother for killing his ex-girlfriend and framing him for the murder. When he gets the chance to free himself he decides to take a mousy woman as a hostage. But Cain under estimates Maggie. Maggie does have a soft heart and timid nature so even she knows she should be easy to control. However, Maggie finds a deep inner strength and resilience and gives Cain lots of trouble. She won't stand for other people being hurt and slowly lets her feelings be known. As they grow to know each other Maggie becomes more convinced of Cain's innocent and so does her need to help him. But Cain's dangerous brother and Cain's troublesome reputation make any hope of them having a real future together difficult.
Cain is a hard, desperate man. I really felt that Maggie wasn't safe with him. At first, I really questioned that they could have a relationship at all! They felt like complete opposites. However, as Cain relaxes and opens up I saw him for the man behind the mask. His extremist family and the false conviction have marred his life. But with gentle, kind Maggie he is able to be human again. She sees him as a individual and he really starts to shine. I slowly warmed up to him. In contrast, Maggie becomes stronger and more able to stand up for herself as the story progresses. She finds a side of herself even she didn't know she had! I really liked how each of the character transformed and became the best of the characteristics of other person! As they evade the police and try to hunt down Cain's brother the tension mounts and makes this book even more exciting!
Close quarters with a desperate and sexy man on a mission of vengeance make for steamy and thrilling reading.

Once Upon a Tartan by Grace Burrowes

Once Upon a Tartan is the second in the author's MacGregor Triology. As a spunky little girl who is at the heart of the plot drives the story and makes it fun to read!
Tiberius Flynn is on a mission to steal his niece for his father. In return, his hard-hearted father will give his sisters more freedom to choose their destiny. But when he meets his previously unknown niece he never expected to be captivated by Fee's precocious charm and lively nature. Or as fascinated by Fee's scandalous and beautiful aunt, Hester.
With Fee's stepfather and mother on their honeymoon, Hester has been appointed to care for Fee. And Fee is a lively handful! But Hester is suspicious of the sudden interest of Fee's charming 'new' uncle. She questions Tiberius's motives for suddenly visiting Fee. Soon Hester and Tiberius form a tentative bond and then a smoldering attraction. But what happens when Tiberius’s plans to forcefully take Fee from her home is realized? Will Hester forgive him or will Tiberius have a change of heart?
Tiberius is a solid hero who loves his sisters. He is caught between helping them and his father's machinations. Already feeling guilty, as he grows to care for Fee and Hester. Tiberius is torn. If he takes Fee his sister will be free from their father but Fee will struggle living with his cold, manipulative father. His growing love for Hester further complicates matters. Hester is a sweet enduring heroine and Tiberius’s betrayal (especially with her terrible past with men) makes her a sympathetic character. The brightest spot in the story is the charming niece, Fee. I also loved how her Scottish family cares for her and each other. Tiberius and his father are villains and at first I didn't like either! But as the story progressed and I came to know Tiberius and his father I began to care for them and actually feel sad for them. This richly, characterized and complex romance is surprisingly deep and sweet!
A charming romance where the villain becomes the hero.

Heartfelt romance and sympathetic characters make for a book to remember.
Evan Kincaid couldn't wait to shake the dust off of his miserable childhood in his hometown. Now a successful financial advisor in New York, he is living the ‘dream.’ With a smart and beautiful fiancée and a job that affords him the money to do whatever he wants, he has blocked out his troubled past. But when one of his top clients wants him to visit his home town to check out a prospective investment and insists that Evan visit it personally.
Evan is irritated and reluctant, especially when he discovers it is in his own hometown! He doesn't want any reminders of his past and evaluating a ranch, the complete opposite of his city life makes him cringe. When Evan visits he wants to keep his visit low profile but immediately stumbles into his once best friend, Jessica Bly. Evan loved Jess as a friend but before they left they had a night of young passion and he cowardly emailed her when he left. But Evan soon discovers that the prospective business that he is supposed to evaluate is one that Jess wants to run. Evan feels conflicted by his past, a friend he never forgot and a serious conflict of interest.
Jess loves the country. She dreams of setting up her own business and doing something she loves. Her life is comfortable if not completely happy. But her peaceful life is shredded when the young man she loved suddenly arrives. Their one night together haunts her and she knows she never let Evan out of her heart. As she and Evan reconcile their difference and become more 'friendly' trouble looms as Jesse’s secrets and Evan true reasons for visiting break a fragile trust.
This book really builds on its' characters more than any Susan Fox book I have read before. I felt that I knew them inside and out. Each them have issues that they must work though and their vulnerabilities make them absorbing to read. At first, I thought Evan was a bit of a spoiled child. He didn't want to face his mother or ever return to his hometown. But this story gave him a big kick in the pants that transformed him and made him a better and more honorable person. The author doesn't try to give pat answers which were very realistic. I felt a little bad for Jess because she so obviously loved Evan and Evan couldn't see or acknowledge it. But she was a woman of great depth and strength who is not afraid to love and take risks. I also liked how Jess is very comfortable being herself (the opposite of Evan) and won't change who she is to please Evan. This book is filled with tragedy, hope, inspiration and redemption.
The characters will make you love them and I hope that Jess's ex gets a second chance at love if Susan Fox writes another book in this series.

Jaguar Fever by Terry Spear
Paranormal Romance -Aug. 6th, 2013
4 stars
In this book, Terry Spear departs from her wolf shifter romances and delves into her sexy, new alpha jaguar shifters.
Maya Anderson and her brother are jaguar shifters. Earlier, in Savage Hunger, they met another jaguar who helped them save her brother's new wife Kat. Maya was highly attracted to the new jaguar but she knew he was only interested in Kat... or so she thought. When they unexpectedly meet in a shifter bar.
Maya instantly recognizes the scent of the unknown jaguar whose name is Wade Patterson. She finds she is again attracted to him and he has an equally sexy brother David. Both men work for the military and are at the bar trying to find deadly hunters that capture endangered animals such as jaguars and sell them to people who like to use them for game. They have been commanded to fly to Belize where the animals have gone missing. Wade discovers that Maya has plans a vacation there with her brother and sister-in-law. He tries to deter her for her safely but she refuses. As Maya and Wade meet again in Belize they also find their sexual chemistry flaring out of control, especially since Maya realizes that Wade was always attracted to her, too!
However, Belize turns deadly when they discover that the hunters are shifters, too. These remorseless shifter are bent on killing other shifters who dare to keep them from their prey. As danger mounts, Maya and Wade must work together to help each other.
This book was an exciting, untamed read. Maya is one sexy female and she knows her own worth. I really enjoyed that she doesn’t have insecurities about her attractiveness or sexuality. But because she and her brother lived outside of jaguar society they are not used to other jaguars and it is interesting to read how they meet other jaguars who have a more stable background/community. It was fun to read Maya meets her cousins and how the jaguar men are so protective of her even though they know that she is a strong female in her own right. Maya is very attracted to Wade but initially thinks he wants her sister-in-law Kat. However, Wade was always interested in Maya but thought she was her brother's wife! Now that they know the truth they have let their passions flare! I liked that Maya is no one's fool and she even protects and saves Wade! They make an unstoppable team. Wade is used to being in charge and having the handful that is Maya is almost more than he can handle. It was entertaining to read his confusion and frustration with her independence when he is only trying to protect her! I liked that he admires her strength, believes in her and respects her wishes even though he is a true alpha. I also enjoyed the deep and relationship between Maya and her brother. The addition of the hot, and sexy David and Maya's cousins adds a whole new dimension to the book. I can't wait for their books!
While I enjoyed reading the author's wolf series. This jaguar series is more intense and wild – a keeper!

Kavya or the ‘Sun’ wants peace and prosperity for her kind and is devastated when her deadly brother finds her followers and slaughters them. He has been guided to her stronghold by a violent Dragon named Tallis. Tallis claims to know her. He tells her that he is disgusted by her lies. But Kavya has never met Tallis before! She son realizes that her evil brother posed as her and used Tallis to create havoc in the Dragon world. But how can she prove it to a Dragon who refuses to believe her? Tallis only wants to punish her for misleading him. Can Kavya elicit his help before it is too late?
The mysterious and harsh Tallis is mentioned in the previous book, Caged Warrior. While I enjoyed this story his background was a bit of a let down. Kavya is young, strong and idealistic. Often I felt she was too good for Tallis. As they try to compromise their relationship strengthens but I never felt Tallis matched up to Kavya ‘goodness.’ I also expected them to have more interaction with the evil brother which would make the book more compelling. This book is a solid read but I felt it didn’t quite match up to the history, plot and magnetic attraction of the first book. I did enjoy the surprising ending which readers will find climatic and very exciting.

This magical read is a satisfying end to the Marriage to a Billionaire series as the last of the sister and the Ice Queen, Julietta finally thaws!
Julietta is a woman of power and intelligence. She always knew she would take over the business that her father started. Driven and successful she has never found a man who could fulfill her desires and concluded that she just wasn’t ‘responsive.’ But in reality no man has been strong enough or determined enough to give her satisfaction until she meets the handsome and enigmatic Sawyer Wells.
Sawyer is used to coming into a business and conquering. When he decides to open a chain of fashionable hotels he decides he wants to work with Julietta’s La Dolce Famiglia bakery to provide exclusive foods. When they meets to discuss terms Sawyer is blow away by the hidden fires within Julietta and is determined to find a way to have her as his own. But Julietta refuses to mix business and pleasure. Besides she knows that the ‘pleasures’ never work out for her even if she does find the man attractive. But Jullietta does not count on Sawyer’s determination. When Sawyer challenges her to a sexy wager she finally agrees and is shocked by how much she enjoys their steamy, erotic sex. But a relationship is something she never envisioned or thought she even wanted. As Sawyer and Julietta become closer. So does Sawyer’s mysterious past and Julietta’s doubts that she can have a ‘real’ relationship surface to cause tension. Can they find a lasting love or will it all be business in the end?
As the last in the series, I could not wait to read how the seemingly cold Julietta finds love and what type of man he would be. This book does not disappoint and what makes this series fun to read are the remarkably real and sympathetic characters. Julietta is a woman who is afraid of her feminine side. With Sawyer she can finally let go and not have to feel in control all the time. Julietta doesn’t regret the sacrifices she has made for the family business or the time she spends creating a stronger company. However, because of this she has no time to ‘play’ or enjoy the simple pleasures of life. It was fun to read Sawyer sweep into her life and turn it around. I enjoyed reading Julietta’s wonder and happiness when she has someone there to help and support her, too. However, the best sections of the story are when the delightfully meddlesome mother of Julietta takes the stage. A woman with a big heart and fantastic cooking skills, Julietta’s mother only wants her children to be happy. Now that she that has found mates for the rest of her children she is determined to engineer another happy marriage for Julietta As Julietta’s mother maneuvers Julietta into Sawyer’s company the reader is sure to be entertained.

The interactions between Matson and Amelia are very sweet. Matson's determined pursuit of Amelia is fun to read. He wants Amelia and having her as his wife is his sole focus. But as the story progresses I found myself more interested in the plot than the romance! As the discord between Matson and Amelia's guardian adds to the storyline and Amelia's secret behind her promise add tension.
This is a lighthearted romance with a fascinating storyline that will make you want to find out what will happen in the end.

Nightfall by Ellen Connor
Paranormal Romance -July 2nd, 2013 (Previously reviewed on June 7th, 2011)
4 stars
Nightfall is the first in a three futuristic romance book series by Ellen Connor (AKA Ann Aguirre). In this first book, magic has taken over technology and a deadly and mysterious illness creates bloodthirsty packs out for human food!
Jenna moved to a nice, quiet town. After growing up in an unstable family, she savors the peace, quiet and safety of her new world. When she was young, her crazy father tore her family apart with his wild conspiracy theories. He kept thinking that the world was ending and tried to prepare his young daughter for the apocalypse. When communication from the East stops and mysterious rumors circulated, Jenna is worried but not frightened until she is kidnapped by a mysterious man from her own home!
Mason was saved by Jenna's father, and he promised the man to take care of Jenna should danger threaten her. When he hears disturbing news, he kidnaps her to a cabin hideaway to hold out against the evil magic spreading throughout their world. To a man who only knows survival, Jenna's sassy spirit calls to him. But can he protect her from what is coming?
This was an intense book as the two main character fight for survival and learn to warily trust and then love each other. This is complicated by the addition of other survivors who seek their help and lean heavily upon them for aid. As they try to evade the hungry predators that eat human flesh, they must make some terrible decisions. This book is a gritty dark fantasy. Some of the details about how magic is taking over technology isn't fully explained by the author but it does make the hard and desperate choices they make to survive feel very real and vivid. Jenna is very relatable as her world is turned upside down, Mason takes a while longer to understand as he is a bit mysterious.
Dark, gritty and full of some very exciting situations, this is a solid book with a lot of potential. Once the paranormal aspects/world building are more fully developed, I think it will be even better. However, I still prefer Ann Aguirre's Grimspace futuristic series more.

No one does small hometowns with heart better than Jill Gregory. As the third in her Lonesome Way series, Blackbird Lake doesn’t disappoint!
Carly McKinnon’s young life consisted of being shuffled off to different places but never finding the perfect home of her heart. That is until she settles down in Lonesome Way, Montana. Now an adult with a young baby named Emma, Carly is finally content. That is until the love'em and leave'em rodeo star Jake Tanner comes back to town. Carly is in a panic because she never told Jake that she was pregnant from their hot one night stand! And although she is almost a hundred percent sure he won’t care for the responsibility of a child she doesn’t want him staking any claim on Emma.
But Jake is no dummy and he soon realizes that Emma’s age coincides with their tryst and soon confronts Carly about Emma's paternity. Although he never thought of having children or settling down cute little Emma and sweet Carly make him rethink his shiftless life. Soon he discovers he want to have a big part of their lives. If only he can get over his hurt of Carly’s betrayal and prove that he has 'staying' power.
This was a slow and gentle romance that readers will savor. Carly loves Emma and the town she has settled into and fears Jake’s return is only trouble. She just wants to avoid him and live her own life. Carly is a kind and vulnerable character. Her love for Emma and determination to build a new life will strike a chord with readers. Jake is the character that transforms. If not for Carly and Emma I have the feeling he would have stayed the roaming bachelor and never known the satisfaction of a family of his own. While Jake and Carly are very attracted to each other neither is in love with the other character, but they are certainly attracted! It is only as they get to know each other that they truly appreciate and open themselves up to love. I enjoyed reading their journey and so will readers! There is a also a secondary romance between two friends that way really sweet!

Urban Fantasy -July 2nd, 2013
5 stars
Vicious Moon is the third in the author's Earth Witches Urban Fantasy series. The heroine is kick a## and the action starts immediately. It is already my favorite in the series!!
Nyx is a witch with weak earth powers. She never fit in with the rest of her powerful family and left early to travel the world in the military. Now she has finally settled down as a PI in San Francisco when she is hunted down by deadly enforcer Sisters. They capture her and bring her back to her home where her grandmother seeks her help. Her powerful witch sister, Marisol is missing and her grandmother wants Nyx to find her. Nyx goes to a mysterious town where her sister was supposed to learn more magic but went missing instead! But finds it is haunted by a evil demon and a power hunger witch. To make things worse there is a sexy and enigmatic man named Etienne who is immune to magic. He doesn't wants her in the town and makes his feeling abundantly clear! But Nyx won't leave until she finds her sister and tempers flare. However, time is running out and Nyx can feel her sister fading away. Can she find her before it is too late or can she persuade Etienne to help her instead of getting in her way!
This was an amazing book! I couldn't stop reading it. Nyx is relentless, smart and very sassy. She will find her sister and nothing will stop her even a sexier than hell man named Etienne! As she investigates her sister's disappearance and find more mayhem I was enthralled. Etienne is a fascinating hero. He has a very shady past that had many layers. He and Nyx were very complex characters who were compelling to read. I never knew what either of them would do next. The mystery really propels the story and as do the rich characters. Nyx meets some old friends which added warmth and a sense of comrade that made this reader feel like she was part of the book. However, some of my favorite sections in the book involve Nyx's funny familiar. A dopey dog that seems to appear at mysterious times.
Entertaining, high suspense and a knock out heroine make for a stunning read!

Contemporary Suspense -July 2nd, 2013
4 1/2 stars
This is my new favorite in the series. Steele is all that and more!! Lucky, lucky Maren.
Maren is an unconventional doctor working to help people in other countries who don't have adequate medical help. One night she is surprised by the KGI team, led by Steele who ask for her help patching them up from physical injuries that occurred in their last mission. Maren is eager to help the company who saved her from danger in the past. But the enigmatic leader Steele, for some reason, doesn't like her. Or maybe it that he likes her too much!
Maren is shocked to return home to find Steele waiting for her and wanting a night of super, hot sex. Maren can't resist him and soon he is gone. Although both try to remind each other it is only physical they feel much more. And Maren discovers that she many be pregnant! But before she can tell Steele, she is kidnapped by a ruthless crime lord who wants her for himself. Can Steel find her and rescue her before it is too late?
This book was an adrenaline rush from the first page. Maren is a doctor with heart, passion and integrity. (I would love to have her as my doctor.) But she is unsure of her looks and sexuality. And amazed that Steele is attracted to her. I loved reading how she thinks Steele doesn't like her because he doesn't really talk to her or seem to want to be around her. But in reality, he can't keep himself for wanted to make her his, so stays away. When they have their first passionate night to try to get each other out of 'their systems' it only makes things worse. And when Maren discovers she might be pregnant and is taken away vulnerable and under the scary eyes of a deadly criminal the tension mounts. Steele is alpha-protective and ultra competent. No force will keep him from finding and claiming Maren. The best thing about this book is that Steele has always been somewhat mysterious and even cold character. One I wanted to know more about. So anticipating his 'fall' was something I really looked forward to. But usually books build up a hero and when his book finally comes out I feel disappointed that the hero wasn't as good as I imaged he would finally be! This is the rare book where the hero is exactly, if not better than I imagined. Kudos to Ms. Banks for writing such a hot blooded and stellar book that follows up on all it's promise. Steele is still tough as nails but only will make concession for his team or Maren. I loved reading how protective he is around her and almost becomes 'human' if it makes her happy!
The best book yet, Steele is better than I imagined.

Fangs for Nothing by Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love
Paranormal Romance -July 2nd, 2013
4 stars
Fangs for Nothing is the second in the authors funny paranormal series. In the first book, the Fangover, vampire band mates wake up and can't recall what happened to them. It is a funny take on the popular Hangover movies. In this book, the band is celebrating a wedding when they discover that the punch has been spiked. As a result they can't remember happened to them...again! Johnny the devil may care band leader finds himself handcuffed to a cold, by the book French vampire. While he finds her sexy, her starchy attitude makes him wondered how it is possible he could have 'hooked up' with her! Plus his fellow band mate Drake finds himself 'semi-clad' next to a very saucy human caterer who wants nothing to do with him. But how did they get drugged and who is responsible? As they all try to unravel the mystery they find that they might have more in common than they think. Loosing their inhibitions may have been just what they needed!
Johnny is known as the irresponsible yet charming vampire who never thinks of the consequences of his actions. In the first book, I found his behavior rather childish and wondered if he would ever take responsibility. Having the uptight French Lizette hurdle into his life sure shakes him up. Especially since she gets under his skin and he finds that he inexplicably can't keep away from her! On the other hand, Lizette needs structure. When her protector died when he was exposed as a vampire she has made it her mission to keep vampire safe. But the unruly Johnny threatens their exposure with his laissez-faire affair attitude she is steamed. They are like fire and water -but how the sparks fly! I liked how Johnny finally starts taking his life more seriously and wants a commitment from Lizette. I also liked how Johnny loosen Lizette up! The secondary romance between Drake and Josie is very sweet. Josie is a hardworking woman who can't seem to catch a break. When she meets the sexy Drake she likes him but has no time for his hijinks. But when she finds herself with him after taking a mind-numbing drink she realizes she needs to find out what happened or she might be implicated in the party being crashed!
Funny, irreverent and fun, this book is a fantastic beach book.

When a good girl gets tempted by a sexy cowboy all bets are off!
Kim Chang aspires to be an artist, but she is on borrowed time. Her conservative parents want her to join their stuffy and upstanding business. Their pressure is relentless. While they gave her some time to spread her wing and try to find an alternative income, Kim knows her time is quickly running out! Her friends think is would be fun to so to visit a rodeo and Kim feels obligated to go, too. She never expects to hit it off with the hot cowboy, Ty Ronan. Soon their hormones are out of control and she can't believe she has had a smoking, hot one-night stand. But a scandalized Kim runs away. However, Ty is not willing to let the sassy Asian go. He contacts her and soon they find themselves in what might be a real relationship! Kim finds herself alive with Ty but her parents are putting pressure on her, can she finally break free and make a life and business of her own?
I really liked how the author brings two supposed opposites together and shows that they have common ground. Ty is as sweet as he is sexy. He is a cowboy with a heart who believes in the woman he loves. Kim is a woman trying to break free. While reading this book I felt that if she didn't have the courage to do it now, once she went back to her parents she would never be able to express her true self again. I wanted Kim to be independent and strong, not bound by feelings of obligation. With her supportive friends and the sexy Ty she finally takes a real risk. As usual, the scenes between the two characters are hot, hot, hot!! But it is how they really seem to care for each other and struggle to find a life together that I enjoyed. Their romance isn't perfect and that made all the more real and touching. I also liked how the author spent time into Kim's Asian background which felt authentic. And how it clashed with more 'modern' ideals. Kim seems to be stuck in between them and is trying to find balance in her own life.
East meets west in this sexy romance of a woman who breaks the mold!

Caspian has a secret. He is half human and half Fairy. His father is the powerful Prince of the Fairy Court. He lives in the human world and with the guidance of his Fairy ‘godmother,’ he knows to stay clear of the tempting and seductive Fairy world. He makes money dealing with antiques since he has a gift that allows him to feel the past of objects. This talent has unfortunately also brought the notice of an evil outcast Fairy. This Fairy wants Caspian to find a powerful mirror that can bring destruction to the Fairy Court. And this Fairy isn’t playing nice.
As Caspian searches he has also been commissioned to help the beautiful and troubled Lydia Callaway. Her illustrious grandmother died and left her a grand but run-down Southern house and all the items to sell. Casper is attracted to Lydia but feels a dark presence in the Callaway estate and a feeling that the magic mirror may be on the premises. But a feeling is not good enough especially from a Fairy who means business and is used to getting whatever he wants….
Those who are fascinated with the Fae will find this book charming. As Caspian’s real heritage brings an interesting storyline. I only wish the author had spent time more on the Fairy court and Caspian’s father! Caspian has only minor magic and a human lifespan so he is very vulnerable. And he knows it. As he struggles to protect himself and the woman he is coming to love the tension rises. Sometimes I wished Caspian had more powers to defend himself. I really enjoyed reading about his snarky, Fairy Mentor Dylis. She is spunky and her lost love is fun to read about. The author gives snippets of the Fairy world but not nearly enough to satiate my appetite. Besides the main players most characters are briefly mentioned.
Entertaining paranormal but wish it included more magic and Fairy characters.

Powerful suspense and likeable characters drive this thrilling new installment of Laura Griffin’s Tracers series.
Maggie works as a professional photographer for crime scenes with the Delphi Center. But she also makes extra money taking photos for weddings and other venues. After a photo shot with an engaged couple she finds herself being attacked and her camera stolen! She discovers that she may have taken photos of a kidnapping that relates to an on going FBI investigation. Her assault makes this case personal and although sexy FBI agent Brian Beckmann tells her to keep her nose out, Maggie finds that she can’t. She never wants to feel powerless again and she uses her connection at Delphi to fast track the case. Soon Maggie must face demons from her past and the attention of the hunky and younger agent who pursues her. For a woman who has shut out life since the loss of her daughter Maggie will have to discover what is really important even if it kills her.
I really enjoyed the latest book in the Tracers series. Each book in the series seems to build upon the other -although it is not necessary to have read the prior books. Maggie is haunted by the loss of her daughter, something she has never been able to get past. She exists, neither finding real joy or heartache. But the introduction of the hot and youthful FBI agent Brian really shakes things up. He wants Maggie and not just for a fling. And Brian knows what he wants and isn’t used to not getting it –especially since he knows Maggie is also attracted to him. But to love Brian Maggie will have to open her heart again. This emotional ride with the heroine along with the investigation makes for intense and emotional reading. I also found the Dephi Crime Center fascinating. Every time I read the author’s books I feel the excitement of tracking down the killer using the smallest bit of information and am continuously amazed by what the experts can do- they feel that real.
If you love police procedural shows like CSI and emotional drama you can get your teeth into this book will definitely keep you entertained.

Caged Warrior by Lindsey Piper
Paranormal Romance –June 25th, 2013
5 stars
This amazing and gutsy paranormal will knock your socks off! Caged Warrior is a no holes barred adrenaline rush. This emotionally charged romance seamlessly combines the majesty of dragons and hunky gladiators into a vivid new series that is guaranteed to be a favorite. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Audrey MacLaren is not human, she comes from the ancient race of dragons. Although her dragon powers never manifested she is valuable because she gave birth to a dragon King child when she married a human. Because the dragon race has reproduction problems she and her child are coveted. Audrey thought she was safe until the terrible day when an evil and manipulative scientist killed her husband. The dragons under his control then stole her and her child for horrifying experimentation. But something happens in the lab and Audrey is thrown in to the dangerous underground cages where dragons and humans are pitted against each other for entertainment. The scientist makes her a deal, if she wins in the ‘games’ she will have her son back.
Audrey is given to a ruthless dragon King called Leto Garnis for training. He fights for his clan. If he wins the scientist promises to help his clan reproduce and shelter his comatose sister. But Leto is frustrated by the beautiful and rebellious Audrey. For Audrey has a deadly skill even she is not aware of, but to unlock it she will face a gruesome trauma. Can he and Audrey work as a team and find freedom? Or will their growing respect and tentative love die in the merciless cages?
This book is thrilling from finish to end. Brutal and even savage I could feel the desperation as the dragon warriors fight for honor or for their lives. Some will do anything they can and the cages are literally cut throat. It was mesmerizing to read the spunky Audrey fight her way in the cages even though you feel the odds are all stacked against her. She is the plucky underdog you want to win. Leto fights for his family with a desperation and love that gives him honor and cold determination. He does not want to care for Audrey and he believes what he has been told by the scientist.
The author cleverly twists the plot making the reader wonder what is true and what is fiction. I was particularly fascinated by Audrey’s dragon skills and why was she able to bear a child when everyone else has been unsuccessful? The atrocities in the lab will make readers horrified and want Audrey to win even more. Also the dragon council makes for interesting reading as they are unaware of what has befallen their race and are slow to bring aid. Readers will feel how old customs have hindered dragon society and that their leaders must make changes if they want their kind to survive. The romance between Audrey and Let is very realistic as they grow to believe, trust and finally love one another. Their passion as they fight and make love creates a very steamy book.
A spectacular romance filled with a sexy warrior, unimaginable power and powerful myth makes this book an impressive debut

Nalini Singh’s latest Psy-Changeling novel is better than ever.
Silence has ruled the powerful Psy. It is the only thing that keeps them from becoming mentally unstable. But now it is collapsing and the extremists working for Pure Psy want to cause further mayhem.
The only Psy strong enough to save their race is the coldly beautiful, Councilor Kaleb Krychek. But many distrust him and feel he only wants power for himself. Can the calculated and manipulative Psy be a true savior or does he have ulterior motives?
When Kaleb saves an unstable Psy named Sahara, his motivations become all the more complex. Who is Sahara? And what abilities does she have that she was abducted for years and kept as a prisoner? As Kaleb tries to rehabilitate her their past is revealed but will Sahara forgive him and help him when she discovers he is the reason she was tortured?!
Loved this book! Kaleb has always been a dark mystery. Is he good or bad? He certainly has his own game. He is playing by his own rules and everyone else in the book is scrambling to keep up! I liked that although the author shows his ‘human’ side he is definitely extraordinary and the emotions she reveals only make him all the more fascinating and charismatic. The heroine is also an enigma. Sahara is an important puzzle in his life and trying to figure out how she fits in kept this reader turning the pages and staying up into the early morning. The romance between Kaleb and Sahara is electrifying especially since the Psy are not supposed to have any emotions. So when their emotions pour out are they intense and almost obsessive. In fact, the passionate intensity of their love was one of the most moving that I have read in a long time. Sahara has secrets of her own and her unusually bright and warm, spirit is a soothing balm for the merciless Kaleb. As they battle to deal with Psy extremists and fight to keep their race sane this book comes to a spectacular climax which will gratify readers of this series…when the truth is unveiled.
This explosive book reveals a stunning hero, a courageous heroine and the fate of a race killing itself. Do not miss it!!

Abby King is a quiet librarian who has an unfulfilled wild side. She wants to live out her fantasies as a submissive but only with the darkly handsome and sinfully enigmatic Nathaniel West. So she applies to his inquiry for a new submissive. And she is shocked and anxious when he contacts her to ‘try out.’ Their weekend together is more than Abby imagines and she only wants more. But can she give one man that much control over her. Especially a man who is disconnected from his emotions?
This book had many surprises. Nathaniel is a bit of mystery. Nathaniel has secrets that Abby must accept. But it only makes him more seductive and elusive. I also liked that Nathanial had character flaws that will make readers sympathize with him. Especially since he maturely admits that he has issues and tries to rectify them instead of blaming others.
The sex scenes are many and varied. If readers are looking for something out of the ordinary this book will certainly satisfy! I liked that Nathaniel wants Abby all to himself. The best part was how the ‘submissive’ Abby ties Nathaniel in knots and makes a stand for herself!
Vanilla readers beware! Mesmerizing, extreme and with tons of sensual tension this book will not disappoint!

This erotic romance has surprisingly few erotic scenes but packs a lot of sexual tension! As the author builds the book to a climax, readers will be spellbound.
Sydney is an upcoming erotic artist who was discovered by her wealthy and faithless boyfriend, Max. But Max had a terrible accident and is permanently bound to a wheelchair. With his accident Max realizes how much he took Sydney for granted and that he loves her. But he can't stand knowing if she will leave him. So Max hires a high priced gigolo to test her fidelity.
Colm Hennessy's ‘latest assignment' is to seduce the surprisingly innocent Sydney. But soon finds himself making the fatal mistake of feeling actual affection for her! After the tragic death of his wife and the injuries to his sister Colm is driven by guilt and the need to make money to pay for his sister's medical bills. This latest seduction will garner him a lot of money, even if he finds it distasteful. But Colm doesn't bargain on falling for Sydney.
Sydney will always be grateful for her boyfriends help and support but the new man he has introduced as her next model is far too attractive. She tries to keep her mind on her work. Not the distracting and magnetic man in her studio. But she soon finds herself caught in a plot that she may not able to recover from. Can Sydney find true love and find her own independence?
This was a surprisingly deep book. The seduction of Sydney is one woman will love to read. The tension builds as the very experienced Colm uses his 'skills' to ply Sydney. I liked that Colm takes his time in tempting her. Colm also has hidden anguish that drives him to self destructive tendencies. He cannot forgive himself for the irreparable damage to his sister or the death of his wife. He lives in a pit of misery and his own self loathing. Prostituting himself as punishment. But Sydney's purity attracts him and makes him feel again. Can he finish his resolve to 'break’ Sydney and collect his payment? What will happen when Sydney finds out about his duplicity and that of her manipulative boyfriend?
Sydney's fragile past and lack of parental support have made her young life unstable. Her boyfriend has been her questionable anchor but his recent mind games have forced her to find the inner strength to rely on herself. I enjoyed reading Sydney's transformation and ability to forage a life for her own. Her ability to battle adversity and find love made this a novel that readers will enjoy!

When he is rescued and saved by other shifters he is grateful for his freedom but he does not know how to life in the world ‘outside.’ He is uncomfortable in his new life and stronger than other shifters. As a result, he is viewed suspiciously by other shifters. He exists but does not feel complete. That is until he meets the extraordinary and vibrant human female, Carly.
Carly can’t believe that her fiancée’s car broke down in the middle of no where. Thankfully, a handsome stranger comes to help her. When she decides to change her plans and drop of the car off, she surprised to discover her fiancée having sex with another woman! Carly feel betrayed and hurt but Carly realizes never loved him. However, this handsome stranger is another matter…! But Tiger’s mysterious past is filled with trouble as the humans who created him want him back and will do anything for his return. However, Tiger refuses to let Carly go, for she is his mate…
This was a solid romance and readers of the series will be thrilled to learn about the mysterious origins of Tiger and his past. But even while reading this book I felt Tiger was inscrutable. On the other hand, Carly is very human and vulnerable. She has tried to find a life of security with her handsome fiancée. Maybe he isn’t perfect or she doesn’t quite love him but he represents all that she never had. Tiger totally disrupts her plans and brings her passion. Carly must realize that life is more than being safe and the love she finds with the fierce Tiger makes her stronger. As mentioned earlier, even after reading this book, Tiger was still an enigma. His past is also still somewhat unclear. So my only real quibble is I never felt I got to know Tiger and therefore, connect with his character. Although the author tries to give Tiger more ‘humanity,’ he seemed a bit one dimensional compared to the other heroes in her past books. As a result, while this was an entertaining read I didn’t feel as interested in him. I did enjoy reading about prior characters and revisiting this series. I hope the author reveals more in future books.
A must read for fans of shifters or Jennifer Ashley.

Mary Wine has created a wonderful new world that captured my imagination and my heart. It reminded me of the idealism of Star Trek with sparkling bits of Jayne Castle's entertaining Harmony series.
Sophia Stevenson is a rare Navigator in training. As such, she is very coveted in the world of space travel. As a Navigator she has the ability to guide ships. However, she was not born a Navigator but was exposed to a Root Ball which is transforming her. Her trainer is the stoic and restrained Captain Bion Donkova. His austere and by the book demeanor continuously and frustrates Sophia. As she tries to learn but maintain her own independence she clashes with the sexy Captain. But other factions are aware of Sophia's budding powers and want her skills for their own. She is kidnapped and it is up to Bion to find her! As they get closer, so does their repressed passion for each other.
This was a hugely entertaining book to read. Sophia is plucky and wants learn but is unused to the Illuminist society. I liked how she tries to fit in and finds she is stronger than she thinks. Bion is the perfect hero. Sexy and dependable. He is someone Sophia can lean on and who won't let her down. When he discovers her disappearance he won't stop until he finds her and keeps her for his own! I loved the idea of the Illuminists. Men and women who work towards a better world. Their entire world -societal structure and people were fascinating. I liked that Sophia was not originally an Illuminist but joined after she was exposed to the Root Ball. I enjoyed seeing the new world she finds herself caught up in. The only thing that didn't quite flow was how quickly Sophia and Bion 'got together.' (I wish the relationship had been built up a little slower.) Otherwise, this story was a perfect blend of suspense, fantasy and adventure. I especially liked the devious villains who are vying for power and Sophia. I would also like to read more about the mysterious Guardian, Decima.
An amazingly vivid and creative new world with character you won't forget. This is fresh and innovative readers will quickly become addicted!

This was a heartwarming romance that readers will enjoy. Although it does take Foster a while to realize what is really important to him the rest of the cast is endearingly quirky, welcoming and utterly charming. Shelby and her daughter have found a real home filled with love and acceptance. I was particularly drawn to Shelby’s courage. She loves her daughter and must not only think of herself. Her food quickly gets her the job plus a place to stay! But she also finds the new manager, Logan, a big distraction. Logan is polished, charming and too good-looking. A lethal combination that she refuses to become entangled with! Plus she knows his flashy type. He also has a high maintenance, clingy, and rich fiancée. But knowing and doing are two different things. When Logan dumps his fiancée and starts purses Skye all bets are off. But what will happen when her true identity is revealed?
This was a heartwarming romance. Skye must strike out on her own and break free of the bonds and expectations of her family. She becomes a woman of true independence. But this book is really about Logan who makes drastic changes in his life. He finds real love and a daughter he can love. A new, fresh start that gives him meaning. He doesn’t even realize until he comes back ‘home’ that his life is shallow and all façade. As Logan strips himself of what he thought he wanted and what he finds is real, he opens himself to an entirely new world of love and promise. I liked that the romance between Logan and Skye felt very authentic. I could feel the intensity between them and how meeting each other changes each of their lives for the better. They are two deeply talented and worthwhile people who just need the ‘right’ environment and acceptance to find themselves. I was very happy for them!! Plus, the food descried in the story also made me hungry. I only thought the ending was a bit predictable with the manipulative ex-fiancée.
This is a quick and breezy read that will have readers completely satisfied.

One Sweet Ride by Jaci Burton
Contemporary Romance -June 4th, 2013
4 ½ stars
This one Hot ride!! One Sweet Ride is part of the sport series about friend and relatives who work in the sports field. In this book, the rich, handsome Gray Preston bucks his parents’ expectations and instead invests his money and talents in speed racing. He has built a solid and successful race car company and is almost content with his life. He just wants to win. But he is surprised by a visit from a beautiful and smart woman named Evelyn. However, she happens to work for his estranged father. A man who chooses his political ambitions over his family and his son. Gray is bitter over his father’s callous treatment of his poor mother and his repeated ego and negligence. When he meets Evelyn, Gray is angry when she asks him to use his popularly as a race car driver to help his father’s campaign. Only the pleading of his mother makes Gray grudgingly agree. The problem is the annoyingly and beautiful Evelyn has been assigned to stay with him to help promote his father. Evelyn gets under his skin and soon they find themselves in heated contact! But can Gray reconcile with his father a man Evelyn admires? And what about their ‘relationship?’ They haven’t made any promises is this only a one way ticket to heartbreak
This smart and sassy romance will appeal to contemporary romance readers who love great characters, hot men and some very sexy scenes! Gray and Evelyn have a lot of chemistry. From the beginning, they are at odds and do the sparks fly in and out of the bedroom! Gray also has to deal with his misconceptions of his father. I also liked how the author introduced Gray’s hot friends who must have a book of their own!! Evelyn is a bit straight-laced and by the book and Gray sure had her in twists and questioning herself, too. Both characters helped each other grow and I enjoyed reading how they changed and supported each other. As usual, the scenes between them are very intimate and intense.
This book is a winner, two very appealing characters and steamy romance make for a satisfying read.
