The Lady Hellion by Joanna Shupe
Historical Romance -May 26th, 2015
4 stars
Lady Sophia Barnes has it all. The respect of society, wealth, beauty and a powerful father that dots on her. But despite society’s demands, she refuses to wed. Only one man has truly touched her heart and she foolishly refused him. His name is Lord Quint and since he was shot and nearly died he has closed himself off from society. But Sophia will have not have any of his excused and wickedly visits his home unescorted and uninvited. There she finds a man changed. But she is resolved to ask him for help and hopes by asking it will engage him in life once more. For Quint is a genius and she needs his aid with her current investigation to help another woman in need. Sophia started to help women without wealth or status when she was successful helping her maid. And although it puts her in danger she dearly wants to stop a deadly serial killer of young, innocent women. Quint knows he can’t stop Sophia but he can’t leave his house either so he settles on helping her and setting guards to protect her. However, their unexpected closeness during Sophia’s case puts them in increasingly intimate contact. But Quint no longer thinks himself worthy. The reason he is staying a recluse is because he believe he is going mad. To make matters worse, although Sophia loves Quint she has had and unfortunate tragedy that makes her feels she could not have a successful relationship with a man. But as they race to solve the case Sophia’s life is put in increasing danger and Quint must face his fears to save her and persuade her to take a chance on them both.
This book is perhaps the most exciting in the series. The mystery drives the story. And it is suitably gruesome for those who enjoy a bit darker edge. Lady Sophia is impetuous, charming and good-hearted. Just the type of woman to get the book-worm Quint a kick in the pants. However, the story is a bit improbable. As Sophia visits regularly and is not caught or faces repercussions for her actions. She seems a bit fast and loose with her reputation. Thankfully she has friends and a father who care and protect her. However, Sophia once made a mistake and this has shadowed her views on marriage and trust. Quint, like the previous heroes in the series does not seem as likeable or quite good enough for his heroine. I was disappointed that it took him soooo long to leave his residence even though he knew Sophia was in danger. I respected that he had to face his fears but somehow he didn’t seem as strong or have as much integrity as Sophia. But I still enjoyed the surprising ending. The secondary characters are sly and know more than they seem.
A good mystery and a daring heroine made this a worthwhile read.

Thankfully, he has Felicia. Although seemingly meek Felicia comes to love Talyn and becomes a more assertive and self-assured woman on her quest to save Talyn and their love. I liked that they were so devoted to each other and saw the real person behind th mask. Talyn gives so much. I love hoe he tried to provide everything he could for Felicia no matter the cost. And instead of taking advantage of his devotion Felicia tries to protect him and puts her own life in jeopardy trying to save him. The political intrigue they both get dragged into makes for exciting reading even as they try to save each other from the fall out. Her Wild Hero by Paige Tyler
Paranormal Romance May 5th, 2015
4 stars
Her Wild Hero is part of the author's X-Ops series. However, it can easily be read as a stand alone although you will want to know about the other characters once you start this addicting new paranormal series! This series is special because it is primarily composed of shifters that are a secret branch of the government.
Kendra Carlsen is tired of being at her desk job. She wants to be out there with the other team members facing danger and saving lives. So when her boss finally gives her an assignment in the field she is ecstatic. But this new mission isn't for sissies. From the get go everything seems to go wrong.
First off, she is assigned to a team that includes Declan Macbride. A bear shifter that used to like her a lot. But she thought he was boring. As a result of so many rejections, he seems to find being in her company now repugnant. Secondly, when they arrive in Costa Rica their team is ambushed. In an attempt to escape, all the team is scattered and running for their lives. Except Kendra finds herself stuck with Declan as her only teammate. Talk about awkward. But close proximity shows how unboring Delcan really is and how wrong Kendra was to brush him off. Only now that she’s interested and he's not! But maybe Delcan is still interested but doesn't want to take the chance on being rejected again? It will be up to Kendra to make a move, if they can survive being hunted.
This book is a bit of a continuation of the storyline from the previous books. There are born shifters and Declan is one but now the government wants to make super-soldiers and is trying to develop a process to change regular human into shifters. Only there are complications and they want to experiment on born shifters like Declan to refine their process. As Kendra and Declan try to stay alive they are obviously targeting Delcan. Afraid they want to experiment on him they frantically try to get out of Costa Rica but with limited resources it seems hopeless. Fortunately some of the team from back home are coming to the rescue. Readers of this series will definitely enjoy reading about Ivy and the rest of the shifter team. I really enjoyed reading Kendra’s point of view. How she realizes how stupid she was to brush off Delcan and how she feels remorseful. Declan is a solid and somewhat shy guy and Kendra hurt him big time. But you get the feeling that Kendra really is the only one for him. Thank goodness she finally reciprocates. I really felt the hero was deserving and worthy. He is like a big teddy bear -tough and strong but sweet and thoughtful, too. Lucky Kendra!
Great storyline and a worthy hero make this read worthwhile!

The Shattered Court by M.J. Scott
Fantasy/Paranormal Romance -April 28th, 2015
4 stars
This amazing new series by M.J. Scott has me completely and utterly addicted.
Sophie Kendall is thirty-second in line to the throne. But although she is a distance relation to the king her blood line is important. The women of the royal blood line have been known to be particularly strong if they manifest their witchy powers at the age of twenty-one. But on the eve of her twenty first birthday she is taken by the dashing Lieutenant Cameron Mackenzie, to go shopping. On their trip, the unthinkable occurs and the castle is attacked. In fear of her life the honorable lieutenant takes Sophie away to a safe have far from the capitol until it is safe for her to return. Soon instead of observing ritual and being sheltered and taken to the goddess on her birthday she is in the lieutenant’s care when her powers manifest.
Sophie is mesmerized by the magic she sees around her and becomes caught up in a dangerous ley line. In an attempt to save her, Cameron pulls her away only to find himself and Sophie caught in a thunderstorm of uncontrollable desire. This moment puts then in very real danger when they return to the capitol and find themselves caught up in a vicious intrigue. For Sophie is now a huge prize or a liability. No longer chaste, she has caused unforseen damage. In addition, she has certainly been targeted. As Sophie and Cameron navigate the court their loyalties are tested. Especially since, the esteemed lieutenant was once the queen-to-be’s lover. Sophie’s powers are constantly under suspicion as virtually everyone wants to use her. Can she trust Cameron and stay alive in the treacherous court of jealousy and lies?
This was an exhilarating read. The author has created a fully-fleshed word that is original and utterly fascinating. Sophie’s kingdom keeps their witchs in the dark concerning their powers -so they can use them as they wish. A prize to use to secure their own power. But when she inadvertently releases her powers and disrupts their carefully constructed society she becomes something that is feared. Her powers are different and she has no allies except the dubious ones of Cameron. Who can she trust? Does the man who is supposed to protect her have ulterior motives? The chemistry between Sophie and Cameron is off the charts. This book simmers and definitely had steamy romance. I enjoyed reading Cameron trying to fight his attraction and the tension between since Sophie isn’t sure she can believe in him. I liked that Sophie seems timid but thinks for herself and questions the world around her. Cameron is dutiful and honorable but very much the straight arrow (except for his affair with the princess). As he comes to care for Sophie and realizes that he must protect her he starts seeing that things at court are not as he once thought them to be. I really enjoyed them together and their conflicts as they both grow and become stronger individuals and a great team. I can’t wait for the next book since both are thrown into uncharted territory and this will really test their mettle.
Bravo, M.J. Scott, you have created a series to be remembered and re-read again and again. I can’t wait for more, please!

The Harlot Countess by Joanna Shupe
Historical Romance -April 28th, 2015
4 stars
I couldn’t wait to read the second in the author new Wicked Deceptions Regency series. Simon, the Earl of Winchester is the hero. A handsome and kind lord that melted this reader’s heart in the first book, the Courtesan Duchess.
Simon is the best of friends and the sweetest of lovers. Yet he has never settled down with one woman. But when half-Irish hellion Maggie Lemarc returns to England, the cool and reserved Simon is admittedly out of sorts. His friends can’t believe his behavior or notice how much attention he gives to a woman that he turned his back on years before. Maggie loved Simon with a wild tempestuous heart. But when she was falsely accused of improper behavior the man she thought loved her left her to face scandal and ruin alone. Tossed from society in shame she is quietly forced to marry and elderly gentleman despite her innocence. Now she embraces her wild side. Known as the Harlot Countess she dares society to turn its back on her. She throws lavish parities and uses her artistic talents to secretly caricature the man that broke her heart. Unfortunately, Simon won’t leave her alone. He wants to find out who is humiliating him in the papers and demands she help him but sometimes she can’t quite shake the feeling he just wants to annoy her! Soon Simon is discovering all her secrets and making her heart race for him. But is it in panic or something more? All Maggie knows it that she learned the hard way not to trust him. What is Simon willing to do to regain her trust again?
I adored Simon from the first book int the series and wished he had been the hero, so I was eager to read his story. I also wanted to know who the author would match him up with and if she would be ‘good enough’ for him. Well, the heroine, Maggie is all that and more!! She has suffered greatly and despite her best efforts cannot seem to get Simon out of her heart. As a great artist she has been nurtured with friends she met since she married. Now a widow, she doesn’t want Simon in her life making her feel things again. Using her skills she supports herself and her younger sister. My heart felt for her pain. And although I loved Simon in the first book because he did not stand by her when she was cast from society, he fell in my esteem. I didn’t like how easily he believed her supposed loose morals. But once he realized his mistakes he quickly tried to make amends. In this romance I really felt that Simon and Maggie were meant for each other. No other person could give the happiness or heartbreak they suffered together. This book was emotional since Maggie has had to triumph to overcome so much. But it also demonstrated how strong she has become due to her trials.
Readers who enjoy substance and passion will love this Regency romance

Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep
Paranormal Romance -April 28th, 2015
4 1/2 stars
Cold Burn of Magic is the first in the Jennifer Estep’s new Black Blade series. This thrilling YA series kicks off to a roaring start with the street smart teenager, named Lila Merriweather.
Lila is living alone in an abandoned library since her mother was murdered. She longs for revenge while stealing and using her Talent magic to stay alive and under the radar of the two feuding and powerful magical families. Families that would use and discard her like they did her mother. Her mother was once a loyal body guard to the Sinclair family until a bitter argument left Lila and her mother on the streets. However, the Sinclairs and the Draconis in particular are vying for supremacy and will use anyone in their pursuit of power. When Lila suddenly finds herself caught up in their feud and she saves the heir to the Sinclair clan she finds herself blackmailed into becoming his bodyguard. Resentful and unsure she grudgingly accepts. And finds the heir is more than he seems. His too goody shoes ways irritate her even as she starts to believe he may be the real thing. But if she starts to care for him and his family her fate may be the same as her mother’s.
This book has it all! A smart, sassy and snarky girl with powers that can tip the balance between the Sinclairs and the Draconis family feud. However, Lila has no hero complex and although she loved and admired her noble mom she has no plans on sticking out her neck for anyone herself. This book is a bit similar to the author’s Mythos Academy series, in that Lila doesn’t know as much as she thinks. Her mother didn’t tell her everything and she finds herself trying to stay ahead of many secrets and lies. The heir to the Sinclair’s, seems to be the opposite of all typical vicious and power hungry talents and trusting someone is difficult for Lila. Lila pretends to be tough and she is pretty good at it. But deep down she wants to find goodness around her and finds herself protecting others just like her mother. This was a fun read, I loved learning about Lila’s talent and discovering the talents of others in the story. The villains in the story are suitably evil which only makes you root for Lila more.
This new world has a lot to explore and the plucky heroine will definitely keep it lively and entertaining.

All four of them are all drunk on their successes and intent on having fun. But Stanton has an sweetheart at home named Jenny and a child with her. They have an arrangement. When he returns home he and Jenny are exclusive. But outside of their hometown, Stanton and Jenny have an understanding. When they are apart they can do as they please -hence Sofia. But Stanton’s life is thrown in chaos when Jenny suddenly calls and tells him that she is getting married! Stanton can’t believe it and immediately wants to prevent the wedding. Jenny has always been his. To complicate matters he convinces Sofia to come with him since he feels he needs her female perspective to convince Jenny to come back to him. But coming back home is not what he expects!
This was an amusing and sex-filled read. All the group of lawyers are likeable - you want to be part of their club. I enjoyed how they teased each other and were supportive of each other. But while Stanton is a great team player, lover and lawyer he has the morals of an alley cat. And he doesn’t see how his actions hurt anyone. While the sex scenes are hot and heavy the hero in the story is a bit difficult to actually like. When he drags his current lover, poor Sofia into the awkward position of trying to get his old girlfriend back. Well, I couldn’t believe he could be so thoughtless to another person’s feelings. Stanton may be a great friend but he is also selfish and pretty dumb when it comes to personal matters. Readers will sympathize with his lover Sofia and his childhood sweetheart Jenny. This book is interesting as it alternates from Stanton’s point of view and them Sofia’s point of view. As Stanton slowly realizes who he really loves and finally grows up a bit I felt it was very late in the book.
This was a fast an entertaining read I just wish the hero was more likeable and honorable.

A man so powerful he plays and then stalks his prey until they are completely beaten. His real name is Ray. Ray is actually a P.I. that deals with shady cases and lives for the next fight. He has a hidden anger that burns but Sia is surprised when Ray appears attracted to her and wants to protect her. Sia is torn by her extreme desire for Ray and the warnings of her past. A past that has haunted her when she let her wild side out. When her over protective brother warns her away from Ray she must decide if taking a chance on Ray is worth the risk.
Sarah Castille brings the underworld of MMA fighting into view. By creating an edgy and sexy world that brims with passion and testosterone. Sia is a wounded doe that is over protected by her well meaning brother. She has not recovered from being raped. As she struggles to find self-confidence and be her own woman. She must trust her sexuality. Ray has been featured in the previous book and he was a heart throb even then. In this book Ray shows his even darker side and shows a raw sexuality that attracts Sia like no other. This story is really about Sia journey to womanhood and finding herself. My only quibble with this book is that sometimes Sia seemed too fragile for Ray. But readers will be sure to fall in love with Ray. He is supportive, possessive and very a protective alpha hero that woman would love to rescue them!
Readers that love their books smokin’ hot and full of banked passion will adore Full Contact.

The Duke’s Disaster by Grace Burrowes
Historical Romance -April 7th, 2015
4 ½ stars
This new Regency romance has a hero that fans will be sure to fall in love with. Sweet, affectionate, upstanding and completely commanding. Noah Winters, the Duke of Amselm finds himself drawn to the eminently capable companion, Lady Araminthea Collins.
But Lady Thea has a past. Thea’s family has fallen on hard times and she has to work as a paid companion to save money for her younger sister, while her wastrel brother gambles away his inheritance. But working as a companion leaves her with little protection. As a young and beautiful woman she is prey to the subterfuges of those with more wealth and status. Especially those of the supposed ‘gentlemen-ly’ type that try to bed her.
When the Duke unexpectedly proposes to her Thea is surprised and cautious. Can she trust him? When he generously offers to take care of her and her sister financially with a written agreement. She finally agrees. The duke is absurdly pleased with his choice of a wife. He knows she is agreeable, competent and respectable. It is a business arrangement, pure and simple except he finds himself wanting more... but of what? Trouble quickly brews when he discovers that Thea is not a maiden on their wedding night. The stoic Duke is unusually upset. And must deal with his feeling of betrayal. But Thea will not reveal the name of her lover. But despite that they soon find a gentle and even affectionate companionship. However, Noah’s feelings of jealously bother him until he suspects that Thea was taken against her will. When her past catches up to her, Thea’s virtue is vilified and Noah must decide how he will protect the woman who has slowly won his heart.
This was a slow and blindingly beautiful romance. The clear affection that Thea and Noah share is so sweet to read. They are considerate and tender with each other. I simply loved Noah. He is strong and extremely capable. His family adores him and he cares for them all. When he was thrown into the Dukedom at a tender age he immediately had to repair the damage that his father has wrecked on the family estates. Since then he cares for everyone in the family and doesn’t believe how much he is cared for in return. I liked that Noah doesn’t think that he is special (besides being titled) or that he is extraordinary in how he takes care of those he loves. He is a hero that tries and is actually affectionate! When someone he cares for needs something he does his best to give them what they need. I wish I had been in Thea’s shoes! I liked Thea, she also cares too much and that makes them perfect together. The only problem is that Thea doesn’t take care of herself or trust the Duke with her secrets even though he repeatedly shows his worthiness to her. While I enjoyed everything thing in this book from the Duke siblings to their tender romance I was vastly disappointed that Thea withheld her secret. Instead of telling the Duke she waits until the situation gets out of hand. While Noah nobly doesn’t blame her once he recovers from his discovery. As a side note, I have noticed that the author consistently has the heroine have a terrible secret and the heroine never owns up and trusts the hero. This repeated situation gets sort of tiring reading and shows the lack of courage on the heroine’s part and makes the storyline seem a little improbable. Besides this one quibble, The Duke’s Disaster is nearly pitch perfect.
Readers will find this romance addictively charming and the utterly devastating hero will completely win their hearts.

The Courtesan Duchess is the first in the author’s Wicked Deceptions historical series.
Julia, the Duchess of Colton is desperate. Since her shotgun wedding to the scandalous Duke she has been firmly cast aside in England while he tramps Europe whoring and gambling. She has not seen him since their marriage. But all that is going to change. For Julia needs money. Her monthly stipend has been slowly reduced until there is hardly anything to live on. She needs a male heir to survive. And she would love a baby to cherish. So she has hired a infamous courtesan to teach her the means to seduce her unsuspecting husband an beget an heir. Julia dyes her hair red and asks her friend Simon to help her ambush the carousing Duke.
Nick is immediately mesmerized by the brash and seductive beauty on his friend Simon’s arm. Her name is the elusive Mrs. Juliet Leighton. And Juliet seems to be attracted to him, too. When she falls into his bed he wants more! But he soon realizes that she is actually his wife. Bitter and angry he wants to punish her. However, Simon tells him of Julia’s plight since Nick has neglected her. Now angry with himself he vows to make up for her treatment and put the estates back to rights. But the most difficult challenge is winning the woman that he so thoughtlessly gave up.
This was a well-written story. But I found myself very disappointed in the hero. I felt terrible for poor Julia. I loved how daring she was but did not like how much she had to push down her pride and whore herself for financial security. It was not until two-thirds through the book that I felt Nick might be somewhat worthy of her. The real hero on the book was Simon. He is noble and kind. Trying to protect Julia and help her even though he is against her plans. I liked their easy affection and wished they had been the couple instead. (However, the author’s next book will feature Simon as the hero. Hurray!) Nick had two redeeming qualities. One was his ruthlessness the other his prowess in the bedroom. I enjoyed when he finally decides that Julia and their child are worth everything. When he finally feels remorse and atones for his actions...wow! This book also has a surprising betrayal that will make this book all the more interesting as Nick discovers dark secrets from his past.
A tortured hero and a desperate wife make this a romance to remember.

Historical Romance -March 24th, 2015
4 stars
High-spirited highland healer Meg Munro is respected by the villagers and lives in a small cottage. She comes from a long line of female healers that are fierce and independent. On one of her visits she meets the newly arrived Earl of Mardoun. Damon is captivated by Meg and vows to have her for his own. And while Meg admittedly finds him attractive she is not piece of fluff to be bought by any man. She chooses who she wants to bed with. Rebuffed and disappointed Damon tries to forget her but discovers he cannot. When Meg comes to take care of his ill daughter he is grateful and finds himself having very tender feeling for the brass Scottish lass. But complication arise that block their love. For there is unexpected intrigue and deception in Damon’s household. Plus a past mystery of a missing treasure puts both in danger.
This was a highly enjoyable read. Readers that love a good Scottish romance will adore the ferry Meg and how she turns Damon’s life upside down. Meg’s brother Coll is true highland warrior there to protect his sister and those of his friend’s. (The author will have another book with him featured as the hero called Enraptured!) I liked that Meg can take care of herself financially and has a good support system of family and friends that adore her. It is nice switch from the poor waif that is very dependent on the hero even if she is charmingly sweet. Meg is not naive and has a lot of spunk. I enjoyed that she choose when she wanted to be with Damon and did not feel impelled to accept advances she did not want. Damon is a typical male of his times before he meets Meg. He sees her and assumes that his title will convince her to have a fling with him. Her denial of his request shocks his views and he slowly beings to changes his behavior. When Meg comes to help him and does not ask for anything in return he admires her more.
This story is a book about a daring woman who lives her own life and changes those around her.

Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs
Urban Fantasy -March 3rd, 2015
4 ½ stars
Dead Heat continues Patricia Briggs popular Alpha and Omega series. It mainly highlights Charles past with some suspense thrown in for some serious action.
In most of the books in this series. Charles is sent out to take care of business by his father the alpha and Anna is there to aid Charles. But in Dead Heat, Charles has decided to take Anna on a mini vacation. It is her birthday and he wants to purchase her a special gift -a horse from a friend that is dying. When the arrive at the old ranch, they are faced with the difference between humans and werewolves. Prejudices and friendships. But trouble lurks, soon after they settle in the son of Charles’s friend finds his family in serious danger. The wife has been place under a terrible geas. She is compelled to murder her children and then kill herself. As a witch she is able to fight the compulsion but at the near cost of her life. The decision to save her by changing her into a werewolf haunts the family. As a werewolf she is stronger but she will also outlive her children. As the family tries to recover from its attack and the change in their mother, Charles and Anna are in pursuit of the fae responsible. And find themselves joined by Special Agent Leslie Fisher. They discover the same fae has been targeting young girls and slowing draining them. They must focus all their resources on finding him and the most recent girl he had kidnaped. But time is running out for the young girl and what happens when a innocent close them may be the next victim? Can they stop him in time or will a trail of more helpless girls continue?
First of all, this is the slowest paced of all the books in the series. For one, Charles and Anna are on vacation and meeting old friends of Charles. There they meet old grudges and heartbreaks. This book primarily showcases Charles -how he has become the man/wolf he is. To recap -Charles is his father menacing law enforcement for the werewolf packs. He has done terrible things in order to keep peace. But finding a balance between the horrors he may have to commit and a soul that becomes increasingly dark are difficult. He allows few close -until he meets Anna. Anna is an omega wolf and his mate. She can soothe other wolves and stand on her own. She will not cow under the pressure of other alpha werewolves and she loves Charles. She brings light to Charles’s life. But Charles’s past is shrouded in mystery for Anna. When they visit his old friends, the author takes time to introduce the characters and reveal more about Charles besides the cold-blooded killer. It is interesting to read how Charles reacts to his friends eminent death. His friend has declined the offer of being a werewolf - with long life and the promise of youth. As he is dying and his family and Charles are in mourning for him. This book makes Charles more human and explains what a good match Anna is for him versus a human female. It is only as the book reaches midway or even a bit further does the tension from finding the villain become more highlighted. While the relationship between Anna and Charles has been the main focus of the prior books, the mystery or assignments they have been sent to deal with are a close second. However, in this book the mystery seems to take a back seat to learning more about Charles -his complexity.
My feelings about this book are a bit mixed. I loved learning about Charles and seeing Charles and Anna together. However, the first half of the book lacks its usual punch of suspense and action that make it so edgy. This book was more contemplative and serious than the previous books. It is just different, still an excellent read but not exactly what I expected or I think other readers of the series expect. But I do think the author needed to write this book in order show how her characters grow and move forward. Static characters often make boring characters.
Dead Heat is a slower paced story but a brilliantly told novel that reveals secrets in Charles’s past.

Vampires Never Cry Wolf by Sara Humphreys
Paranormal Romance - March 3rd, 2015
4 stars
This is part of the author’s funny and sassy Dead in the City series. But new readers will easily be able to dive into this charming book.
Sadie Pemberton is an old vampire that dislikes responsibility. But when her maker becomes a vampire leader she gives the ownership and running of her vampire club to Sadie. While Sadie doesn’t enjoy management, she does love being a vampire. The problem is there has been a recent infestation of werewolves at the club and they are cramping her vampire life style! The big trouble lurks in a very sexy werewolf prince named, Killian Bane. His constant attention is definitely getting under her skin. But this prince is out of luck, Sadie doesn't trust werewolves and certainly not a prince! However, there is something about him and his persistence that makes her yearn for more.....
Killian has had dreams of the woman who will be his mate. He longs for this woman and can’t believe he has become obsessed by the forbidden vampire Sadie. Historically relations between werewolves and vampires have been strained if not violent. Can he convince the delectable Sadie to take a chance on him. And what happens when she discovers a past where werewolves may have murdered her family?
This surprising romance was a fun, fun romp. Sadie is one saucy minx and she isn't afraid of any werewolf. But she is bothered by her attraction to Killian. Sadie has always known what she has wanted in life -and a serious relationship isn't one of them. She enjoys her carefree lifestyle and Killian is seriously messing it up! Killian is sexy and I could understand why Sadie found herself falling for him. The only drawback is that I often didn’t feel he wasn't good enough for her. He wasn’t willing to fight/defend her in the beginning of the story. The tentativeness of his pursuit was not full out alpha. Because of this, it took me a little time to warm up to him. I liked that there are a lot of complications in the story that give it interesting plots twists. The main one is the animosity between vampires and werewolves. Figuring out how their relationship could possibly work without causing outrage from both sides was a sticky situation. Also, Sadie has memories from her past that shock her and have huge ramifications for the vampire and werewolf communities. As both Sadie and Killian deal with these obstacles they became closer and even better together!
Vampires Never Cry Wolf is a light-hearted and highly enjoyable paranormal romance with zany characters.

Dark Debt by Chloe Neill
Urban Fantasy -March 3rd, 2015
4 stars
Dark Debt is the eleventh in the author’s popular Chicagoland vampires series. But can easy be read by itself.
Merit is a human that has been turned by one sexy and powerful vampire named Ethan Sullivan. Now romantically involved, they try to find time for themselves and protect their vampire House. However, scheming vampires and humans want their power and wealth. When Merit’s father asks her to attend a gala event she and Ethan are surprised when one of the guests is target by rogue vampires from another House. As she and Ethan fight and save the human from death, they also have to deal with the fall out. They find themselves trying to combat vampire backlash from the negative publicity. If things weren’t bad enough, Ethan is visited by a mysterious vampire from his past. An evil vampire that claims to be Ethan sire. And one that wants to take Ethan’s power base. In addition, the vampire wants Merit for himself - a trophy against Ethan and a plaything he can mesmerize. Can they debunk the vampire villain, protect vampire honor and save time for themselves?
This urban fantasy will definitely keep loyal readers engaged. Ethan and Merit have a deep, and caring relationship that is enjoyable to read. I loved knowing they had each other backs. (Unlike other stories that make the main characters doubt each other all the time.) Even when mayhem is surrounding them they still can count on each other and their friends. Ethan continues to exude suave charm while being undeniably sexy and totally kick ass. While Merit’s tough sword welding skills make her a menace in her own right. The cast of supporting characters gives this series its charm especially Merit’s witchy friend and the other vampires Merit has love/hate relationships within the House. I liked how the author has expanded the books to give it great world building. It was interesting to read about the other Houses and how they are different from Ethan’s leadership. And what Ethan and Merit have to watch out for. There are also a couple of twists and turns especially a surprise from Merit’s cold, money hunger father. While not as dark as most urban fantasies I liked that it has light-hearted moments between the characters. Sort of similar to Jennifer Estep’s assassin series. This world has plenty of books to grow and main characters that will continue to keep Chicagoland fans coming back for more.
Great cast, deep intrigue and a smoldering, sexy vampire leader make this a worthwhile read.

Bring on the Dusk by M.L. Buchman
Contemporary Romance -March 3rd, 2015
4 1/2 stars
This book is another spectacular SOAR military romance. Bring on the Dust will quickly engage readers with it’s thrilling plot and even more fascinating main characters.
Captain Claudia Casperson, is a beautiful blond bombshell with brains and the ingenuity to be the top of her field. As a helicopter pilot she has been in the field and been promoted to the prestigious SOAR team. The best of the best of the helicopter piolets. And she can’t wait. But before she can even start she is pulled from days in the field to rescue a dark-ops Delta team. There she meets the enigmatic Michael Gibson. A colonel on the top of his game. Michael has only ever wanted to do what he does. He loves making the impossible possible. As part of dark-ops he pushes himself to be the best. But this quiet man feels incredibly out of his depth with Claudia. Never has he been so distracted by a woman. When they are both given a mission by the President of the United States, Michael finds himself worrying about Claudia and not the assignment. He realizes that his thoughts are affecting his performance on the job. The job has become personal. Fearing he could be losing his edge and panicked about his dreams of building a relationship with Claudia, Michael hurts himself and Claudia. Can she forgive him or will she decide she is better off without him?
This was a deeply emotional book because both characters are so outwardly unemotional to others. Claudia has been dubbed the Ice Queen and even Michael’s friends don’t know what to make of the man of few words. When they are together it feels as if they have found a deep understanding that transcends words. Michael keeps to himself and even though others care for him, they never got him or his strange jumps in thoughts. But Claudia somehow does and with her he finds someone he can actually be close to and love. Michael has always thought he would die young on his job. He never imagined a life with a woman -having children and growing old together. And it scares him to his soul. But soon he finds living without her is even worse. Michael is one of the most interesting heroes I have read in years. His way of thinking and his quiet competence make him utterly fascinating. Claudia has never met anyone like Michael and soon she finds herself falling head over heels in love. But after their last mission together she finds Michael distancing himself. Hurt and feeling alone Claudia must discover if she wants to take a chance on a man that will never be easy to love. I felt fo Claudia, she doesn’t open her heart easily either. And that is because she has such a compassionate and caring nature she must choose her inner circle wisely. Both these characters and the depth of emotion make this a book to remember.

Lady Aramina is the Duke of Casavian’s only daughter. But her father was destroyed by the power hungry and devious Duke of Caine. Now the Duchess of Casavian, she plots her revenge. Only her mortal enemy has a dangerously sexy son named Leo Barrons. A man that wants her for his own. Mina intends to seduce and use Leo (Leo is the Duke of Caine’s heir.) to land a terrible a blow against the Duke of Caine.). But Mina’s treacherous heart finds itself liking Leo! When Mina discovers Leo’s supposed hatred for his father she is distrustful of him. Especially when he proposes a plan to uncover his father’s nefarious misdeeds. When Mina is threatened by her actions while aiding the Queen she finds her life in danger as well as her that of her sovereign. Can she trust Leo not to betray her?
This was a complex and well developed world based on Victorian England. Mina is an intelligent woman that works to help her Queen and find vengeance against the man responsible for her father’s death. Intrigue fills the pages. Mina must carefully help her Queen (A woman being drugged by her husband the prince. ) and country, which makes this a fast-paced read. Leo is an amazing hero. Although he has been largely ignored and abused by his despicable father he has become a man of integrity. In the beginning is very much a shadowy figure, which makes him intriguing. Even when Mina distrusts him he tries to worms his way into her heart and her bed. I liked how he fights to protect her even when he knows she doesn’t quite believe in him. This was a strong novel that is surprisingly thick. Readers will find this a thrilling ride they won’t want to leave.
This was an exciting romance that paranormal lovers that enjoy steam punk will enjoy.
