Body Heat by Susan Fox
Contemporary Romance Nov 27th, 2012
4 stars
A no-nonsense, straight-laced heroine finds herself tempted by a young and sexy ‘bad-boy’ with a record.
Dull, by-the-book Maura Mahoney has just turned thirty. Raised by her emotionally distant aunt and uncle when her parents died Maura has experienced little real affection. While they do care for Maura they lead lives as academics and brought her up in a strict and cold environment driven by professional success. Both worry she won’t find someone so they continuously throw conservative if boring men at her. But Maura can’t seem to find the energy to get interested in any. In contrast, her work at the senior home thrills her more. Although she loves her job, Maura feels that she should be more successful and wants to apply to be the new director. But that means working with people and overseeing the demands of the center. When her co-worker goes on leave and asks Maura to take charge of their newest volunteer. Maura agrees. But she doesn’t realize that this new volunteer is a sexy madman on a motorcycle with a record. Nor does she expect her heated response to the Latin Lothario! Jesse Blue is younger and just not her type at al?! He is volunteering his services in exchange for not going to jail. But wild Jesse has a heart of gold he hides behind his swagger and when he starts to build a new garden for the seniors and befriends them he melts Maura heart and fires her dormant libido. But what happens when Jesses is accused of thievery and the conservative Maura is his only alibi? Will she sacrifice her job and reputation for him?
This charming and sexy story about two people who are drawn together even as they feel they are worlds apart. But what they don’t realize is how much compassion and love they have. I loved how the senior center brought them together and how they bonded wanting to help others. Both hide behind their masks. Maura with her distant professional manner that prevents her from risking her heart and her dreams and Jesse’s bad boy personal which keeps people away from his surprisingly tender and generous heart. I really grew to like and sympathize with Jesse, he is too good-looking for his own good. And his previous relationships have soured him. He has had a string of woman who only wanted him for his bedroom skills but never took to time to know him. They tried to ‘keep him’ or hide him as their dirty secret. Maura has never ventured outside her sheltered world and Jesse pushed boundaries which scared her. Jesse is also younger than Maura which also makes her feel uncomfortable and makes you root for her to let loose! This is a uplifting book as both characters help the other grow and found a meaningful love and purpose.
Two unlikely characters find love and their own self-worth in a sexy romance that is heartwarming and real.

Angel in Chains is the third in the thrilling Fallen series about angels who have lost their wings and seek to find redemption but find an eternal love instead. This book can be easily read by itself.
Azrael is and Angel of Death an immortal whose mere touch can kill. He has recently lost his wings and is stuck in the ‘hellish’ human world. His holy hope is redemption. But in a back alley thought of redemption change when a woman is being attacked by shifters and dares Az to save her! A beautiful green eyed human who tempts into mortal sin with hot and steamy sex!
But Jade is cunning as well as gorgeous and Az’s strength is just what she needs if she wants to free herself from her deadly stalker ex boyfriend Brandt. The problem? Jade finds that her soft heart can’t let Az hurt himself to protect her. But the big dumb stud won’t leave her alone. But his company makes him a target for her jealous ex and soon the powerful Az finds that he might not be on top of the food chain because Brandy has powers and secrets that are lethal even for an angel.
Jade is a fascinating character. She has had a hard life and is just trying to survive she cares but tries to hide her weakness which only makes her more loveable. But Jade is also reckless and a bit wild she wants to prevent Az from being hurt while protecting her but finds Az determined to stay with her despite her attempts to push him away. Az is one supr Hot angel. I think he is my favorite in this series so far. He is arrogant and a bit too self confident but how I love it when Jade confuses him and surprises him. And when he finds himself addicted to a ‘mere’ human! I liked Jade courage to fight fore herself and later Az. Jade is tough a filled with moxie. Az doesn’t’ know what to make of her. She is human dynamite and readying their roller coaster of a ‘courtship’ is highly entertaining.
This was an exciting fast faced quick read. Angels shifters and one sassy human…oh my!

Contemporary Romance Nov.6th, 2012

Sensual and well written this book won’t let you go! When a young girl’s crush finally becomes something much more. This book is part of a series about the powerful Conte family but can easily be read and enjoyed by itself!
Carina Conte has always loved her older brother’s devastatingly handsome best friend Max Gray. But Max has only ever seen Carina a younger sister. Carina is finally sick of waiting and if the rakish playboy Max doesn’t want to give her the time of day she is going to have some fun on her own! After graduating with her MBA Carina is more confident, polished, and sophisticated. With curves men drool over she wants to relieve herself of her virginity and no one, not even Max or her traditional family are going to stop her from finally have a good time. Max and her brother (before her married) have their fun. Why shouldn’t she?! But Carina doesn’t count on Max finally (and inconveniently) seeing her has a woman and his unexpected jealousy of the men she wants to date. Is he being over protective or does he really want her for herself? After throwing herself at Max for years she thought she had finally put her school girl crush behind her… or has she? But trouble brews when a matchmaking and very devious mother enters the picture! Will Carina’s plans to ‘sow her oats’ ever take fruition?
This was a lighthearted and sensual read. What I enjoyed most is how natural this book reads. Carina and Max are characters that are easy to care for and while the reader knows they are meant for each other. They need to discover it themselves and the journey there was a pure pleasure to read. I thought is was funny that Carina has finally given up on getting Max to finally notice her and as a result he finds that he can’t keep his eyes or hands off her. The trouble is Max is torn. He doesn’t feel worthy of her and she is his best friend’s little sister. But Max can’t seem to help himself from being jealous once he sees Caring with another man. And if she is determined to have a fling he feels he should be the one to show her what she has been missing. When they are thrown together on a business trip they soon find themselves in each others arms. Only the next morning Max finds himself confronted by Carina’s strictly traditional mother. And they are forced into a marriage before either are ready. This series is largely driven by the devious matchmaking schemes of Carina’s devious mother. She is a hoot! In this case mother really does know best. Because their marriage pushes them to really become closer and find love sooner than it would have if both had been left to their own devices.
This is a deliciously sexy and lighthearted romp. A book sure to keep you on your toes and entertain you -highly recommended!

Miss Liviana Mayeux is a lycan. She has been shipped off to her grandfather in England for a proper lady-like education. But her grandfather is at a loss. He cannot rein in the headstrong Livi from trying to find her way back to New Orleans! In desperation he asks the help from his neighbor, the Viscountess Radhourne. But he never suspects she will bring her rascally son, Grayson Hadley. For Gray is also a shapeshifting lycan and Livi can’t help herself from teasing him. Soon he and Livi hit it off but Livi only wants to return home and Gray has no prospects. But when Gray’s amorous actions may ruin Livi’s chances for a good marriage he finds himself asking her hand for marriage instead. Just when he thinks he may have a chance, the arrival of her very protective Lycan brothers cause more trouble!
This enchanting book is funny and audacious! I was immediately charmed by the heroine and the colorful secondary characters. Livi instantly captivated me. Her vivid character and engaging character steal the story. I really wanted her to be happy. I could feel the genuine attraction and affection between the two main characters and felt they had to be together. Not only did I enjoy their romance but the antics of the secondary characters made this book a delightfully comedy of errors that kept me constantly entertained. I only wished the author had brought up more of the paranormal aspects such as the characters shapeshifting.
The heroine in this fun paranormal romance is full of pluck as she sparkles off the page and into your heart.

Joy Hightower is a quiet and unassuming artist. When her uncle, a famous special effects man asks her to help transform an actor for a movie, Joy agrees to finish his character’s appearance. What she doesn’t realize is that Everett feels he has found the woman of his dreams in Joy. If only he could find her! When he finally discovers her in Chicago he is determined to let her know his true emotions. However, Joy has secrets. But watch out Joy, for Everett intends to strip them from her -in and out of the bedroom!
This was such a fun and sexy read! I think what I liked most is that both characters are very decent people who really care for each other and don’t play games. Both are genuine people without any extra drama. The only thing is that Joy is reluctant to talk about her cancer and is a bit inhibited in the bedroom. However, Everett soon takes care of that! And Joy finds this other side of herself intoxicating. The scenes between them are very steamy and the secondary characters made this book more than just one dimensional book.
The author does a fabulous job- a scorching read with a good story and characters you will care for!

Fun, fun, fun! This is a lighthearted and sexy read that fans of these authors will adore! As a group of vampires have a wild night they can’t remember and must try to connect the pieces.
The Impalers are a famous rock band made of vampires. When their singer Johnny Malone commits suicide, his sister (and the band manager), Stella Malone finds herself feeling scared and alone. As a result, she jumps on the unsuspecting guitar player Wyatt for comfort! Embarrassed, Stella leaves Wyatt abandoned and longing for more. For Wyatt has secretly been in love with Stella for years.
But trouble is lurking around the corner when the entire band discovers themselves disoriented and unable to remember anything that happened after Johnny’s wake. One of the band members finds he may be married and another has a burn of the cross on his forehead. But what worries Wyatt is that he can’t find Stella! When he does finally finds her, she can’t remember what happened either. And so starts a journey that is surprising and hilarious.
This book is a tweek on the movie the Hangover. As all the members of the band try to retrace their steps. I liked how uptight Stella finally lets go and find love with the worthy Wyatt. Their romance was very sweet. At first, I was skeptical when I learned that there were two co-authors even if I do enjoy each of their writing. But the book flowed very smoothly and I found that I could stop reading! I wanted to find out what happened to each of the band members. As the authors effortlessly guided me through the story I was captivated by the ongoing and increasingly outrageous mishaps. This book also has another secondary romance about another band member that was equally entertaining and charming. What a riot! I hope these two authors write another book together.
If you are looking for a lighthearted, outrageous read to tickle your funny bone this book will not disappoint!

Juliet Lamprey runs a bakery and is content with her life. But in comes the sexy Gideon Carter and does he like how ‘sweet’ Juliet is! The problem is that her friend Cal Whaley has always had a crush on Juliet and Gideon’s interest has him worried. Especially since Juliet doesn’t seem to mind Gideon’s attention. When Cal lets Juliet know he is interested in being more than friends Juliet is stunned. She has always wanted a relationship with Cal but doesn’t want to loose what she has with Gideon. She rebuffs Cal. Has poor Cal waited too long? But when Juliet tells Gideon about Cal’s interest she is shocked when he suggests that they all ‘share!’
Wow, what an unexpected story. Gideon and Cal are great heroes that are very sexy. However, I found the premise of how they become a threesome a bit hard to believe. But aside from this, the characters are very believable. I liked that they are all comfortable with themselves and happy. Juliet particularly stands out. She is a bold and independent woman who is confident in her sexuality. Although she is daunted by making love with two men, she soon takes loving them in stride. It doesn’t hurt that the author certainly writes some ultra hot scenes.
While not exactly realistic, this is a fun and erotic fantasy that is super steamy.

Lord’s Fall by Thea Harrison
Paranormal Romance –Nov. 6th 2012
4 ½ stars
Lord’s Fall is a fantastic continuation to an addictive paranormal series. This book is one you won’t regret purchasing! Ever wondered what happened after happily ever after? Well, this book is extraordinary because it continues the romance between the ruthless leader Dragos, and his mate Pia from the first book in the series.
In this book, the main characters are tested as Dragos’s power structure is threatened and Pia must leave him for a diplomatic mission with bodyguards who don’t take her seriously. As they are parted a sinister force seeks to use a deadly, magical artifact to change the world. Dragos find himself helping his old rivals, the Elves and trying to protect Pia and his unborn son from danger.
This was a fantastic return to the two main characters that started this series. Fans of this series won’t want to miss this book. (While it is not necessary to have read the prior books, it does helps.) I liked how this book explores the complications of a new relationship. How Pia and Dragos must deal with conflict and how they realize they can weather any storm together. I really felt how much they deeply loved and cared for each other and were willing to make big compromises. Another great thing about this story is how Pia acclimates to her new position. She gains the trust of some of Dragos’s employees and shows her feisty side. The author also delves into the mystery of Pia’s mother. But the very best part is that Pia is pregnant and her son has powers and he somehow he communicates with his Pia. He is utterly adorable even if he is not yet born.
This book is must have for loyal readers of the series and anyone who loves a good paranormal yarn.

Colorado Heart is the second in the author’s Angel’s End western series. It is not necessary to have read the first book but after reading this one you will definitely want to read the first book about Cade and Leah.
Cassie Parker has inherited land at Angel’s End from her grandfather. But she comes with painful secrets and shattered dreams. In Angel’s End, she hopes to begin a new start with her friends, paralyzed mother, and flock of sheep. But she is trying to settle in the middle of cattle territory and many feel the sheep are polluting the water. They want Cassie to leave and terrorize her sheep and the people with her. However, Cassie has found an unlikely savior in the rancher Jake Reece. Jake finds he can’t help himself from wanting to aid Cassie. Her sassiness draws him as well as her fierce independence that hides a wounded soul. But can he convince a scared and defensive Cassie to open her heart and life to him?
Sweet, affecting and deeply romantic. Jake is a knight in shining armor. Cassie is like a sleeping beauty. She no longer believes in romance or love. She just wants to survive and find shelter with her mother and friends. But in reality, she is beginning to heal after tragedy and Jake is the perfect man to bring her back to life. I loved the feisty interplay between them as they fight like cats and mouse. The sparks that fly between them kept me turning the pages. I also liked how the author deftly brings in the other characters of the town and makes the reader eager to more about them and future books?!
This quiet and moving western will pull at your heart strings and make you believe in the power of love.

Amelia Darcy is young, impetuous and intensely curious. When her inventor father dies in a freak accident she rebels against her mother who wants her to conform to Victorian standards and marry well. Amelia has plans to recoup her family’s honor. When her family gets an invitation from a mysterious benefactor to hunt for a historical invention of great importance and win a fabulous prize, Amelia is inspired to trek out on her own. She has decides to hunt for an invention by da Vinci- the ornithopter. However, her plans go awry when she crashes on her journey. But luckily she is saved by a sky cowboy named Tucker Gentry. A man wanted by the law but with a heart of gold and a crew of misfits who quickly adopt Amelia as one of their own. Together they soon the find themselves helping Amelia on her search but others want Amelia’s secrets, too.
This was a lighthearted steampunk romance. I liked how the author mixes Victorian times with a touch of the west and the highly imaginative world of fascinating mechanisms. The villain, who is actually looking to find the means to recreate a time machine is devilishly evil and sinister. The hero, Tucker, has been falsely accused of murder and I liked how Amelia believes in him and gives him a reason to believe in himself again. This book has a great spirit of adventure. The main characters are original and appealing, I only felt that the heroine was sometime a bit too naive and impetuous. She was very fortunate that she met Tucker who watches out for her and loves her. This series will continue with Amelia’s two brothers who also want to find a worthy invention and will each have their own book.
Her Sky Cowboy is filled with untamed adventure, zany characters and outrageous fun.

Gobs of sexual tension flare as a shapeshifter unused to revealing his emotions tries to claim his mate. Although part of a series this book can easily be read by itself.
William Fleury is a proper lawyer and a full blooded Amoveo shapeshifter. He represents his race and uses all he can to protect them from extinction from a human faction that wants them all dead. William is serious, independent and analytical. But when he discovers he has a half-Amoveo mate, his world is thrown off kilter. For William is unused to feelings and he very much wants Layla Nickelsen. The problem is his clumsy attempts to court her have had her running away, not towards him. Layla is more a free spirit and their personalities clash. But William is unwilling to let Layla go despite her fears of a Amoveo heritage she does not understand. In an attempt to let her know him he visits her where she grew up and is invited by the owner, Rosie, to stay. Soon Layla’s and William’s mutual attraction draws them closer and Layla appears to gain trust in him. But a mysterious accident injures Rosie, suspicious human interests and evil Amoveos intent on keeping their race pure threaten them all.
Hot passions sizzles off the page as the studly William pursues Layla. Their courtship is entertaining and filled with chemistry. The author has many layers to this story as many subplots are occurring. I especially liked that one of the villainesses is actually misunderstood. As Layla is slowly introduced to the Amoveo culture, so is the reader. I was fascinated to learn more about their culture and their leader Richard. Layla has many doubts about her heritage and her abilities and I liked reading her explore these with William. The secondary characters such as Rosie and Layla’s brother also gave this book more depth as each has secrets about Layla’s past which kept me engrossed. But what blew me away was the steamy relationship between Layla and William. William is so single minded in her determination to make Layla his. Well, any woman would love his devotion. Since he lacks certain social skills it makes the reader appreciate how much he has to work to win Layla and I found this made al the more charming.

Enslaved is part of the author’s dynamic Greek paranormal series Eternal Guardians. While it can be read by itself it helps having read at least one of the prior books.
Gryphon exemplified all that was the best in a Guardian but when he was brought back to life he changed dramatically. Now he has been caged and deemed a threat to those around him. For Gryphon is slowly going mad. He hears the voice of an evil goddess, one that he made a terrible pact with. And now she wants him do her bidding and find a magical orb. But getting her what she wants will be the end of the life he knew. Gryphon plans to escape and kill the goddess who will not let him rest. But during his escape he spies the lovely and beautiful Malea.
Malea has been underestimated all her life. Her powerful mother Persephone sees her as a nuisance until she feels she can use her. But Malea just want to gain entrance to Olympus where she feels she can be safe and find peace. Malea was brought to this community for her safety by Gryphon’s brother. But she knows she must leave for the safety of people she has come for care. Because she is being hunted a deadly foe. Unfortunately, her plans to sneak out in the night are foiled when she is captured and used as a bargaining tool for freedom by the hardened Gryphon. But Gryphon also discovers that when Malea his near the voices of the goddess no longer bother him. However, Malea is also a big distraction to his libido! He is totally aware of her as a desirable woman but is she trustworthy and what secrets does she hide?
I really liked that Malea is an underdog but she changes and comes into her own in this book. Gryphon also must realize that he can find happiness and forgive himself. It was enjoyable to read how the sexy and misunderstood Gryphon challenges Malea and makes her think she may want something more…. The problem? He is often hostile towards her and on a mission that may end his life. Not exactly a secure relationship. But the passion between them makes for intense reading as each does not know how to trust the other but yearns for something deeper. I loved reading their growing trust and eventual love. This was spectacular read.

As a consequence he was very lonely and bullied. He missed his mother dreadfully but she never asked him to return home for Christmas. Instead he was sent to his cousins… then and every year until he was an adult. But when his controlling father died his mother suddenly wanted him to visit her. But Pierce found he could not forgive or forget her neglect when he needed it most.
Miss Camilla Stuart is the companion to the Dowager Countess of Devonmont. And she has seen how the poor woman suffers from the lack of affection from her son Pierce. Upset and fed up, Camilla sends the Countess’s undutiful and neglectful son a note informing him that his mother is dying. She is soon gratified when he comes to visit. Only to discover that he intends to leave the very next day! When Camilla lectures him on his duties to his mother she gets no where until he makes her an indecent proposal. Stay the night with him and he will stay another day. Can Camilla play fast and loose with her affection and what happens when one night becomes many more?
This was heartwarming Christmas romance. Pierce longs for his mother but is afraid of rejection and is angry at his abandonment when he was a child. His mother clearly cares for him despite her neglect but why did she send him away? The mystery was a bit anticlimactic. The romance takes most of the story. Camilla is a very gutsy and I enjoyed that she had a precocious son, too! But it took me a little while to warm up to her. On the other hand, I really felt for poor Pierce. He deserved to finally find love and the end was very satisfying.
Sweet, cheerful, and entertaining. While not may favorite of her books it is a heartwarming romance to curl up on a cold night and get into the Christmas spirit.

Matthew is the perfect passionate, first lover and every scene with them together was scorching. Octavia doesn’t want anyone else but Matthew but once she discovers she has to have sex to stay alive, the sparks fly! Matthew desires the innocent seductress he has unleashed and vows to keep her for himself alone. But the notorious rake must come to terms with a woman who might just be his match. At first I felt Octavia was too young, impetuous and out-of her-league with Matthew but she soon caught him by surprise and I loved how they grew to care for each other. When their daughter is taken I wanted them to get together and find the baby. I liked how Octavia finds that she has new and deadly powers and is willing to use them to save her child. Both the hero and heroine change dramatically from the first chapter and the addition of more paranormal elements made this book hard to put down. I also loved how the author resolved the dilemma of Octavia’s ‘sex drive’ slowly killing Matthew!

Under this guise Christiana grows to bond with a new stranger named Chase who has become a recent member of her brother’s army. But can they escape the long reach of her brother’s evil before it is too late?
For anyone who loves Scottish romance and time travel, this book is a must have. This story is sweet, magical and utterly charming. Both characters are easy to like and are truly fated to be together. Torquil is an evil villain and I couldn’t bear for Christiana to stay under his thumb a minute longer. This book does move rather slowly which is good since it builds the characters but this also means they don’t actually meet for a while! I loved Christiana’s courage and selflessness as she helps others escape but stays behind because her visions show her that by doing so there may be a way of defeating her brother. Chase is like many people, he is looking for something other than himself. He wants a great journey and to find his one love. I found him to be a very heroic character and I liked how strong, reliable and gentle he was with Christiana. They made a wonderful couple! There are many secondary characters that return from the series but this adds to the story and the prior books do not need to be read before this one. Although I have to say I am intrigued by the lovely Fae, Syrie, who is responsible for bringing Chase to the past. Ms. Mayhue, I would dearly like to know more about her!

Lady Harriet Devere loved her brother but is shocked to discover that he did not die on the battlefield. He was assassinated by another agent! Although she helped her brother with his work she is not a professional spy. But when the government comes to her and asks her to help find her brother’s murderer she readily agrees. The man they suspect might be responsible for her brother’s death and being a double agent is an old friend of the family named Julius Forsythe, the Earl of Marbury. And it happens that he has been invited to her grandfather’s estate for Christmas. Although she has not previously met Julius until arriving at her grandfather’s estate, Harriet immediately works on investigating him. But Julius is a seasoned spy and quickly realizes that Harriet is up to something. Soon Harriet finds that she is attracted to the kind and debonair Earl and hopes he is not a murderer. But what happens when she discovers him meeting a suspicious Frenchman in the dead of night….
This book was a well written and appealing romance that historical readers will enjoy. Harriet is an admirable heroine who has good intentions and uses her intelligence wisely. I really felt how she mourned her brother’s death. I admired her courage as she carries on and her ability to take responsibility of her younger siblings while also trying to find her brother’s murderer. Harriet was such a worthy and honorable woman that I didn’t want her to find love with a man who might break her heart if he was a traitor. The tension as Harriet is torn between her heart and the memory of her beloved brother makes this book very tense. Julius feels responsible for his friend’s death and finds it difficult to forgive himself. At first I didn’t think he was good enough for Harriet but he proves his worthiness.
An honorable and courageous heroine and a gallant hero make for a sweet and suspenseful romance that historical readers will love.

As they are pursued by a determined a deadly villain they become closer and find that passion is not a problem. But what happens when real life interrupts? Do they have chance at a real relationship or will the murderer find them first?
Laura Griffin writes another amazing suspense novel as two people who really do love each other must fight against a cold blooded killer and the realities of their broken relationship. Readers who enjoy mystery and forensic science will be find this novel interesting as it delves into aspects of crime solving that are fascinating. And followers of this series will enjoy the return of characters from prior books although it is not necessary to have read one in the series before reading this book. I really enjoyed Kelsey’s feisty spirit and her independence. Even when she is pursued she still fights and fearlessly tries to unravel the mystery behind her ex-fiancée’s death. Gage is all man and he will not stop until Kelsey is safe. I liked that although he did chose his career over her before, when she is in danger he is willing to put it on the line to save her! He really misses her and the author makes the reader feel how much not having Kelsey in his life has left a large hole in his heart.
Tons of hot passion, a strong alpha hero, and riveting suspense make this book another winner!

Historical Romance –Oct 16th, 2012
4 stars
Several years ago Camille did her duty and married a much older and richer man. And gave up a young love in the process. But her young beau never quite left her thoughts. Even though he never fought for her love when she became engaged. Now her wealthy husband is dead and Camille wants a real romance and thinks she has found her man in an obscure prince. She wants the fairy tale romance she never got and the prince seems perfect! The problem is her long lost love Grayson Elliot has returned from America and wants her back. Grey discovers the Camille has concocted a hair-brained scheme to ensure a marriage proposal from the prince by setting the scene and giving him warm, traditional English Christmas. However, Camille’s real family is absent (and frankly a bit embarrassing and eccentric) so Camille hires actors to create a ‘normal’ holiday season. Grey sees a opportunity and tells the prince he is Camille’s cousin come to stay for the season. While there, he hopes to change Camille’s mind and win back her love. But the problem is Camille doesn’t trust him.
This fun, frolic is full of mayhem. As unexpected surprises such as the return of Camille’s real mother poses great difficulties and laughter. This story also introduces her younger more prudish and practical sister Delilah (Can’t wait to read her romance?!) that is estranged with Camille. The hero makes further mischief as he tries to break up the romance between the prince and Camille. Camille is a bit lightweight and seemed a bit clueless concerning the prince but this was entertaining read
Lively, farcical, and lighthearted this is a fun Regency romance.

4 stars
Sweet, poignant, and perfect for the holidays. Grace Burrowes has written yet another hit!
Lady Louisa is the daughter of a Duke and knows her mind. She is very intelligent, practical, and most importantly tired of the Season! She has given up on marriage and love. She decides to ask her parents let her sit out the next Season so her younger sisters can find husbands. But her devious and mischievous father has other plans. He has composed a list of prospective husbands. Unfortunately, Louisa finds them all boring as ditch water. All of them except a retired soldier and farmer named Sir Joseph Carrington. Sir Joseph really likes Louisa but her title makes her too far above him. Yet when her brothers ask him to keep and eye on her, he happily agrees. But when scandal erupts due a lecherous suitor Sir Joseph offers to marry her for her protection and is stunned when she agrees! Soon both find a quiet and enduring love. But all this is threatened by a blackmailer.
Perfectly wonderful describes this tender Christmas romance. I enjoyed that both characters are mature and know their own minds. Their ‘courtship’ was realistically slow and sweet as each grows to admire and care for the other person upon more acquaintance. I liked that each are very honorable people with warm, caring hearts. And I felt that both had found an unexpected haven in each others arms. I also enjoyed the addition of Sir Joseph’s little girls. The other secondary characters like the so-called fluffy dandy and Louisa’s sister made the book more intriguing. I hope to read more about them, too.
Slow, thoughtful, and romantic…this is a holiday treat!

When her mother asks her to find her rebellious sister, Beth Ann dutifully goes to a drunken party. And soon she discovers herself lost in the woods! And both can’t seem to get enough of each other! But Beth Ann’s devious and cheating ex-fiancée wants her back and he will do anything he can to try to break them up.
Beth Ann is a heroine that readers will soon care for. She has lived her life by everybody’s rules and in the process made herself miserable. In this book, she decides to break free and try to open her own beauty salon, find a man who she can trust and just explore being herself. I was so happy for her! The problem is that the town and her family conspire against her. They feel Colt is white trash and they like her being the perfect town daughter –opposed to a real woman who wants her independence and identity. Colt and Beth Ann go a bit wild as she lets free and finally enjoys sex. Colt really loves Beth Ann but doesn’t know how to express it sometimes and this brought some conflict but also demonstrated how strong their relationship had become.

Tempting the Bride by Sherry Thomas
Historical Romance – Oct. 2nd, 2012
4 stars
Unrequited love and an independent beauty make for a moving romance.
David Hillsborough, Viscount Hastings, has always loved his best friend’s daughter Helena. But she as always thought of him as a pest. So instead of being ignored he annoys her, because any attention from the beauty is better than none at all. But this unfortunately makes Helena greatly dislike David and when she finds a man she does want and causes scandal David is there to try to save her with marriage. But Helena still wants nothing to do with David even if it does protect her reputation. In despair, he is resigned to a life without her love. However, an accident takes away Helena’s memory and David has the chance to start from scratch and show her his real love without it being disparaged. But what happens when Helena’s memory returns and she is tempted by the man who first won her heart. Who will she choose? And can David be big enough to let her go?
This was an emotional read. I reveled in David’s anguish and despair. Usually it is the heroine who longs for the hero and it was nice to read the exact opposite! David really cares for Helena but can’t seem to stop himself from aggravating her even when he knows it will make her dislike him even more. He just craves her attention that much. I was happy when he finally had the chance to show Helena his true colors. When Helena regains her memory the author really show how the tension can mount as the reader roots for David but realizes that Helena is very stubborn and doesn’t want to own that she may have been wrong. I did find that Helena could be frustrating to read as she keeps pushing David away. When Helena finally realizes the true and noble nature of a man she has vilified and the man she thought she had loved it was satisfying. I just wished the ending had been a bit prolonged.
A second chance at love and a worthy if misunderstood hero make for an emotionally charged romance.

Eric Warden is the alpha of the feline and bear pack in Shiftertown. As shifters they are feared and sequestered in town to keep them ‘safely’ away from innocent humans. But trouble looms ahead as the human government is forcing Eric’s town to merge with a wild lupine pack and both wants dominance in this small town. To complicate matters Eric is attracted to a half shifter feline named Iona Duncan. The trouble is Iona has successfully hid her shifter half and likes masquerading as a human –she wants no part of shifters or Eric! But her shifter half is trying to take over and the only person she thinks can help her control it is the super sexy Eric. However, he wants more than just friendship. And when the leader of the lupine pack expresses an interest her all bets are off….
Lovers of the series will find this book especially enjoyable as the deliciously sexy Eric finds he can’t help himself from wanting to claim the feisty and stubborn Iona. While Iona finds Eric annoying –he is cutting into her independence. But she has to admit she feels safe in his presence. I enjoyed the lively interaction as they both fight for dominance. Eric is the perfect hero. He wants Iona but tries to give her space. He must fight the need to claim her his own but when another shifter expresses his interest the gloves are off. And an alpha Eric is extremely hot -which Iona definitely notices! I also liked that characters from the prior books make significant appearances (but it is not necessary to have read the prior books) that will no doubt give loyal readers a satisfying feeling of coming home.

Plus his good friend and another fallen angel has gone missing. And the missing angel may be one of the Guardians protecting a vial that could bring unspoken horrors. When he finds that his friend was murdered and the vial goes missing he knows he will do all he can to prevent Armageddon. But when he visits the morgue he finds a spectacular medical doctor named Morgan Sterling. She has been trying to find the cure for the zombie plague and does she frustrates him to no end. And for an angel who has denied his sexual nature the result is explosive!
This new fantasy series will delight fans who enjoy deep and multifaceted characters. Lune is pure alpha male whose lives for duty. But Morgan brings out the tender side of him that was poignant to read. When Morgan becomes infected it starts a new chain of events that made this book all the more fascinating. Morgan is also a crusader she wants to make the world a better place but does not hide it like Lune. I loved her courage and willingness to believe the good in others- even if it causes her problems! I also enjoyed reading about the other Tainted angels especially Dash, the leader who has a huge chip on his shoulder and the handsome Japheth who seems to come into his own and has a mysterious past with the mythical angel Michael. These angels are really different because they are not the ‘angelic’ personalities that readers would expect especially the ‘good’ angel Michael who is extremely brutal and devious.

Fury’s Kiss starts out fast and furious as the heroine half vampire (dhampir) Dorina Basarab finds herself without her memory and being attacked. When she comes back to reality she realizes that she can’t remember anything about her latest assignment. An assignment which resulted in the death of a very powerful first order vampire. Why was she saved and what did the people who killed her partner want with her? As Dory tries to regain her memory she is aided by a wisecracking vampire named Ray and the totally hot vampire Louise-Cesare. When is it discovered that her vampire half may hold the key to unlock crucial memories things get more hairy. As a dhampir she is very unstable as her human and vampire war with each other. Most dhampirs are immediately killed or go mad. Can she risk her sanity? Vampire politics and Dory being at the very bottom of the totem pole make for exciting reading as Dory feels impelled to find out the truth even if there is no safety net in sight.
This book was disorienting at first, as the reader and heroine have no idea what is going on. Dory’s new sidekick Ray makes this book lighter and even funny at times. I liked that the author brings more of the relationship between Dory and Louise-Cesare into the story and gives it more ‘romance’ and complexity. As Dory journeys to try to find answers and instead finds a full on attack there seems no end to the action. Although I found the first half of the book a little slow the second half more than makes up for it as I could not stop turning the pages turning! Thrilling and totally cool -enemies are blown away as Dory gets back her groove. This was a mesmerizing read and while not my favorite in the series, the strong writing, plus the intense/tight writing style make it a must read.
Intense, high octane, and utterly ruthless this is series urban fantasy readers will crave more of!

Things are getting strange in the Zone where unchecked chemicals are causing strange things to its residents. Justine (Tina) Clancy is merely working in the Zone. She is trying to make ends meets while going to law school since no regular employer will hire her due to an unfair arrest in her past. But strange things start to happen when her boyfriend tries to kill her and she wishes him to hell. And apparently her wish is granted. Now strange messages in mirrors and hallucinations of her boyfriends are making her wonder at her sanity. Is he haunting her? Plus Tina seems to be causing explosions and mayhem and finding her looks improving as well. What is going on and why does her sleazy (if sexy) boss want it kept secret and protected?
Tina was content. Not exactly happy but trying her best. It was great to read the heroine come into her own. I loved that the mousy and non-descript Tina finally finds her mojo and super powers! But where do they come from? The author alludes to Tina being a daughter of Saturn and a dispenser of justice. I can’t wait to read more and find where these powers actually originate and how Tina will use them now that she has more confidence in herself. There were also surprises concerning her boyfriend who may not be quite dead. Plus her mysterious boss seems to have many intriguing secrets and a hidden passion for Tina….
Complex and wickedly twisted. This fresh urban fantasy will excite new readers!

He is a wolf shifter and immediately knows that Gea and Quilliam are his mates and sets out to prove it.
Super sexy, I found myself immediately involved in this story. I also liked how her case seamlessly segue ways into the next story. he Curse by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love
Paranormal Romance –Sept. 18th 2012
4 stars
The Curse is the third in the Belador series by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love. In this paranormal/urban fantasy series the heroine, Evalle, is caught between her loyalty to her friends and helping those like herself.
Evalle is an Alternant, a being of mixed heritage, which often are deemed unstable. Their monstrous sides create fear and they are often caged or killed…. Evalle has just been able to free herself from imprisonment but for a price. She is supposed to find other Alternants like herself and help build a deadly army for a Goddess. But others want to use Evalle, too. And when it is revealed that one of her closest friends may be a traitor Evalle doesn’t know what to believe. Plus, the man she cares for has been missing and mysteriously returns after being cared for by another woman. Who can Evalle trust?
In this third installment, the authors are writing full throttle as the intrigue and action never stop. The first part of book actually centers around Storm, Evalle’s love interest. Storm is a shapeshifter. He was wounded while trying to save Evalle. I liked that the authors finally reveal his thoughts. He has hidden depths and I found him a very noble hero. I only wished he and Evalle were together more in the story. Evalle is a head-strong heroine trying to redeem herself for unfortunately being born an Alternant. Her bravery and integrity make for a likeable underdog. I also liked the storyline of the star-crossed lovers Brina and Tzader. Brina and Tzader love each other but can’t even touch! While I enjoyed the twists and turns in this book sometimes I did wish it would slow down a bit so I could enjoy each character more – there is a lot going on. This book ends at a bit of a cliffhanger as Evalle finds herself on another quest. I would like to know more about the Alternants, especially their leader Tristan.
Readers of urban fantasy will enjoy this action packed novel.

Battling shifters and a powerful stone of destiny make for an enthralling paranormal romance.
Ciara is a wolf shifter with a touch of the sight. She is plagued by prophetic dreams. When she dreams of a magical stone of untold power she innocently tells her brother. But her brother craves its abilities. He vows to find it and exploit its magic. While searching for the stone with her brother’s friends, they come across young bird shifters and try to kill them in their prejudice and hatred. But before Ciara can try to save them a magnificent dragon comes and incinerates her brother and his friend! Devastated by the loss of her brother she is still relieved that the young shifters are safe but is haunted by the terrible dragon.
It is years later and the dragon shifter is secretly revealed as the true bird king. His name is Eirik, and his duty is to his people. Although he is the rightful king he succeeds his position to a wolf clan. For the bird race is dying and to have and chance of survival they must merge with the more prolific wolf clan led by Laird Talorc. However, Liard Talorc adopted Ciara when she became an orphan. Now Eirik and Ciara meet again. This time a grown up Ciara and Eirik feel an instant attraction. Ciara’s prophetic dreams endanger her health. But Eirik’s dragon is the only thing strong enough to protect her dreams and Ciara realizes they have a deeper connection. However, her dreams of the elusive stone will not let her completely rest and she is sent on a quest to bring it back to her clan. But others want the stone for themselves….
Dragon’s Moon is the latest in the Children of the Moon series and the world the author created keeps getting better. While it helps having read the prior books, this book can easily be read by itself. This book actually has two romances and the tension as they try to find the stone, plus the inner conflict between the clans as prejudice against the wolves and birds intensifies. I like that Eirik is a rare dragon and how his destiny is tied with Ciara who is from a line of kings. Their love seems predestined. I enjoyed how they at first fought against loving one another but ended up slowly appreciate each other. But, while I enjoyed the romance between Ciara and Eirik, the secondary romance concerning a tortured healer and an abused woman who is also a seer fascinated me more! These two characters were so tortured and worthy that I was happy they found love together. The author also delves into the ancient history behind the stone and some of the origins of the conflict between the birds and wolves. I am particularly interested in reading about the third set of shifters who have not made an appearance, the mysterious griffin shifters. I really hope they make an appearance in an upcoming book!
This book is filled with fascinating lore, passionate story telling, and sweet romance. It is definitely my favorite in the series and one you will not want to miss!

Astrid is pledged with finding if Zarek is guilty of unconscious able murders. When Astrid finds Zarek she is surprised by his innocent and even kind character. She soon finds herself in love but will the fates and Zarek’s wretchedly bad luck conspire against them?
Dance With the Devil has to be my all time favorite in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. Zarek is the epitome of the dark, tortured hero. His life has been filled with injustice after injustice. Betrayed by those he trusts, he blames himself for atrocities he did not commit. When he finds an honorable woman she happens to be a goddess his luck has finally changed. She sees through his rough exterior to the lovable and valiant man beneath I cried. Zarek is probably the most deserving hero I have ever read. He has been misjudged all his life. Lonely and expecting only pain from others he accepts his life. She is disgraced when she tells her mentor that Marcus cannot be helped, she is fired. Discouraged, Rachel decides to move to Rainbow Island, a small population of misfits where her aunts used to live. There in her specialized tea house/bookstore she finds peace. But this is soon disrupted with the appearance of a very determined and deadly hunter named Harry Sebastian.
Harry wants Rachel and blackmails her into helping him with a deadly investigation on the island. But as a consequence of his ‘staying the night’ at her place, the small community brands them as a couple. With her special powers, Harry hopes he can locate the problem. But Harry has secrets of his own, his powers are especially dark and led to an unheard of and terrible divorce. But Rachel has secrets about her powers, ones that may match his own. To complicate matter further, Marcus wants Rachel as is plotting to get her, plus strange psi occurrences on the island may mean mass evacuation. Will an unwanted attraction and a race to save the island bond these two unlikely people?
Fun-filled, light and quick to read. I finished this book in record time. Readers who adore the dust bunnies will find it packs a lot of charm as a budding romance between two precocious dust bunnies ratchets up the cuteness factor! I really liked that Harry and Rachel felt unsure about themselves since their powers could be destructive. Although both are deemed unmatchable due to their odd powers they were uniquely perfect for each other. I sympathized for each as they felt like outsiders or misfits because other people could no understand them. The mystery in the story was fascinating but I kept expecting more action and was hoping to see Rachel use her martial art skills. While not my favorite in the series, this was book was immensely enjoyable.

Not Proper Enough is unexpectedly engrossing as the heroine’s ‘villain’ becomes the ardent pursuer and she discovers the real man behind the cold mask. Those who enjoy second chance at love romances will find this book a pure pleasure!
Lady Eugenia was country girl when she first met her husband but his best friend, the cold Marques of Fenris disapproved of her. Even though eventually she became Lady Eugenia when her brother became a Duke she still felt Fenris’s poor regard of her person. When her husband died Eugenia was bereft and closeted herself from society. But unbeknownst to her the Marquess had a secret passion for her and wished that she had been his wife. He deeply regrets his rash words when they first met. Now that Lady Eugenia has come out again to try to marry off one of her friends the gloves are off. And what the Marques wants he often gets and Lady Eugenia is in his sights!
This was a fresh and entertaining romance because Lady Eugenia genuinely loved her first husband and thinks that is ‘it’ for her. When the Marquess begins to pursue her she does not realize that he wants her and secretly loves her. In fact, she is very hostile toward him. She believes that he disapproved of her marriage to his best friend and that she was not ‘good enough.’ I liked how Eugenia transforms in this story. Before her husband’s death she was full of laughter -spontaneous and carefree. Now she has become a shadow of her old self. But the Marquess’s pursuit challenges her and Eugenia slowly changes as she becomes passionate about life again. The interplay between the two as Eugenia at first tries to distance herself from Fenris and finds she cannot is fun to read! The Marquess is relentless and very sexy! Poor Eugenia didn’t stand a chance.
This was a deep, thoughtful and engrossing romance that I could not stop reading!

Kalla was unjustly exiled when she claimed responsibility for an action that Annika really perpetrated. Feeling guilty and responsible she tells her village of her actions and they agree to let Annika go to find Kalla and bring her back to the fold. But even after years of searching from port to port, Annika has not found her sister.
Discouraged but still determined to find Kalla her plans are thrown in chaos when a mysterious man pursues her. He is intent on finding her origin for he believes that Annika comes from the same village as his mother. His mother never told David where she was from but asked him on her deathbed to bury her sacred things in her homeland. However, what David does not realize is that Annika’s village is a secret for a reason. It is comprised only of women. Although Annika likes David, she refuses to help him even though she understands his plight. But David won’t give up and soon Annika may realize that she needs him!
This was an involving romance as Annika and David are both very original characters that never quite fit in. Annika because of her mysterious origins and David because of scars of his infection and his mechanical prosthetics. While Annika doesn’t care, David feels his appearance keenly -people are generally turned off by his appearance. I enjoyed reading David’s fascination with the lively Annika and how he begins to care for her, David is an incredibly sweet hero who vows he will wait for Annika until she is ready. He loves her free spirit and colorful attitude, plus she does not cringe when she sees him. While I enjoyed the wild and intriguing world the author created I loved most the tender and tentative romance between the two main characters as they find love for the first time.

While Playing to Win, is part of a series, it can easily be read by itself. I found this a sexy and superbly satisfying read. Cole has tons of devil may care charm but he is so used to having his own way! In contrast, Savannah is the responsible one. She knows what she wants and it is security and a home. Savannah has worked hard to get where she is and doesn’t want anything to do with Cole. A man who seems to be born with a silver spoon. Reading these two contrasts in personalities adds a lot of spice to the story and makes it super fun to read. The sparks fly between Savannah and Cole as Cole is set on pursuing Savannah. It was entertaining to read their steamy scenes as Savannah tries to keep her distance from Cole but can’t resist his magnetic appeal. While she will admit to herself that she likes the Major, mixing work with pleasure is unethical. And Sophie is tried of having a relationship with a military man who is never there. But the friendship of their children keeps throwing them together and the attraction between them seems inevitable. And things only get even more heated when Sophie is threatened and they must work together to solve a mystery behind a traitor.
Sophie and David are mature characters who love their children and want the best for them. Each of their past marriages has scarred them and I liked that they know themselves. Both have an intense attraction for each other but Sophie wants no part of David because he similar to her dead husband and a marriage that went wrong. She doesn’t want anything to do with him. But the attraction between them is too much to deny and before she knows it Sophie and David find themselves falling in love. The threat against Sophie makes the story more intense. But strangely enough I found myself liking the secondary romance between David’s sister and a younger man more.
A strong, independent heroine and a sexy military hero make for suspenseful reading.

Primal Possession by Katie Rues
Paranormal Romance – Sept. 4th, 2012
4 ½ stars
Primal Possession is the second in the author’s Moon Shifter series. In this book, the stakes only get higher as more innocent humans are target by an anti paranormal extremist group.
Liam is the second in command to a power shifter group. They live on the outskirts of town in a ranch. But when Liam visits the town he meets the alluring sister of the local sheriff and knows she is his mate! However, December fears shifters even as she is attracted to Liam. She also does not want to get involved with them since her inadvertent friendship caused the death of her brother. A guilt that she still carries. Plus her brother doesn’t trust shifters and makes any time with Liam uncomfortable. But Liam is determined to make December see how much they belong together. When rashly December decides to go out on a date with another human to dissuade Liam her plans backfire when her date tries to kidnap her. December barely escapes but it discovers her date is part of an extremist group, the APL (Antiparanormanl League). The APL wants to use her as a hostage against Liam and his pack. In addition, December’s friend Kat is also being targeted because she has ties to a shifter enforcer and the APL also wants her! Can Liam convince December staying with him is worth the risk?
This was a spectacular second book, the author delves even further into the shifter society so I felt that it was a real community with issues and loyalties that made it more emotionally jarring. I liked how all the people were interconnected and the devious ALP members brought tons of suspense. December is a very likeable heroine who wants Liam badly but feel so much guilt and fear that it is difficult for her to accept her instincts- that Liam is the man for her. Liam, on the other hand, is driven and so focused on December that it was fun to read him chase her. Every scene between them was intense; I could literally feel the burning attraction that December tried to ignore. The plot where the APL tries to frame the shifters and undermine them plus kidnap their ‘love interests’ ratchets up the tension and makes for a suspenseful ride that had me tearing through the pages. I also liked that the author also spends plenty of time on Kat and her estranged shifter boyfriend. (I believe their relationship will conclude in the next book!) I found myself actually more interested in Kat’s history - her father is a crime lord and her past with and an enforcer who clearly has issues.
The world of the shifters is colorful, vivid and utterly fascinating. Readers looking for a fresh take on shifters will devour this series and quickly become addicted like me.

Archangel’s Storm by Nalini Singh
Paranormal Romance – Sept. 4th, 2012
4 stars
Archangel’s Storm is the author latest dark fantasy in her Guild Hunter series. It revolves around the Archangel Raphael and his cadre of seven who protect him.
In this book, Rapheal’s spymaster, Jason is asked to investigate a killing in the court of the powerful Archangel Neha. This is very personal because Neha’s consort, Eris, has been murdered. To ensure Jason’s trustworthiness he is commanded to bind himself to one of the angel’s at Neha’s court. Neha picks one of the ’ornamental’ angels of the court named Mahiya.
Mahiya lives in constant fear at court. For she is the product of an illicit affair between Neha’s twin sisiter and Eris. Her very existence is repugnant to the powerful archangel who holds dominion. And Neha is vengeful. When Neha discovered her mother’s affair with Eris she killed her sister, then imprisoned her Eris for hundreds of years. To live in the dangerous court of her aunt, Mahiya has had to suppress her intelligence. But when she is assigned to aid Jason, he sees to the real woman beneath. They soon find a commonality and his notorious cold heart begins to melt. However, the enemy who killed Eris is still out there and wants vengeance. Can they find the killer before catastrophe occurs?
Dark and intense, this compelling paranormal romance is not to be missed. The mysterious spymaster has long been an enigma and the author does him justice in her latest book. Jason is devious and even a bit scary in his goals to protect his Archangel. I like how this story shows snippets of Jason’s past and what has shaped him. It also reveals that he actually has some compassion! But with Mahiya, he opens up further and sees her as a person, not someone he needs to manipulate for his own ends. When
Mahiya’s life may be in jeopardy his alpha side comes out in full force and the storyline takes a surprising turn. Mahiya has navigated the treacherous court of her aunt for centuries and is used to being alone. When she is assigned to work with Jason she is attracted to his deadly beauty but wary of him, too. But although she has been raised in a fearful place she still maintains an innocence that is very endearing. She has not been corrupted and I very much wanted her happy. I loved how these two characters found each other and complemented each other.
Complex, dark, and passionate this book of intrigue and deception has many surprises.
