The Witch's Handbook of Kisses and Curses by Molly Harper
Paranormal Romance –May 28th, 2013
4 ½ stars
Funny, zany and totally entertaining. This amusing paranormal romance will keep you spellbound from the first page!
Nola Leary is now the head of her family's magical clan. A position she inherited when her powerful grandmother died. Although she wants no part of the responsibility her untapped powers make her the natural lead. But there is a big problem, or rather two! Her powers have been bound and are really unreliable! And a rival clan that her family stripped powers from wants revenge and their powers back. Nola must journey to America to find four artifacts which she needs to continue the powers of her family. However, she must be careful of the rival clan who could use the artifacts against her family! But her grandmother gave the artifacts to an old lover who owns an antique shop in Kentucky for safe keeping! When Nola arrives in the 'wilds' of Kentucky she discovers she must share a house with a hunky contractor named Jed Jameson. A man who is a bit of a mystery himself. To add to her difficulties the man who owned the antique shop died! Now Nola must figure out how to befriend the new owner and track down the artifacts because there is a time limit!
Nola is funny, good-natured witch who seems to keep finding herself in one pickle after another. Finding the artifacts is not an easy task and sometimes she feels she can’t get a break. Characters from the author’s prior books appear and add enjoyment and laughs to the storyline although it is not necessary to have read them. The hot neighbor next door has his own secrets and keeps Nola on her toes. He always seems to have his shirt off and Nola’s heart racing! He tempts Nola although she has an on and off boyfriend back home. But Jed is a bit of a mystery for he seems to like her then runs away! Jed is certainly the charmer, he really is a nice guy trying to do his best. He and Nola really connect and the sexual tension between they is very steamy.
For a lively, joyful and entertaining read you can’t beat the engaging heroine and warm cast of characters. The Witch's Handbook of Kisses and Curses is another hit, readers of this author will not be disappointed!

Darkness Avenged by Alexandra Ivy
Paranormal Romance –May 28th, 2013
4 ½ stars
Santiago is a dangerous vampire who is extremely unhappy. After helping saving the world he should be ecstatic instead of thinking about the impossibly beautiful Nefri. Nefri is a vampire of vast years and unparalleled powers. But she deserted him and returned to her hidden world beyond the veil to take care of her clan.
But both are destined to meet again and their unrealized passion for each other will soon collide. For Nefri is ‘asked’ by the omniscient Commission to find a powerful rogue vampire named Gaius and retrieve a medallion. Little does she realize that Santiago has also been ordered by his leader to find his maker, Gaius and find the medallion, too.
Gaius was responsible for the near annihilation of their world. As Gaius’s child, Santiago can track Gaius. As Nefri and Santiago fight against their attraction and find themselves on hunt for Gaius their affection grows. But Gaius has opened a gateway for a deadly and malevolent sprit that cannot be controlled. Can they admit their love and find a way to contain the evil Gaius has unleashed before it is too late?
Darkness Avenged is one of my favorites if not my favorite in the Guardians of Eternity series. Nefri is a powerful ancient vampire who is also humble. I liked that although she has vast powers she chooses not to flaunt them and does not see herself as being better than others. Her humility and kindness made her one of the best heroine’s I have ever read! She is a real person! I enjoyed reading her conflicted feelings toward the sexy Santiago, especially when the younger vampire keeps pursing her!
Santiago is super hot! Brooding, dark and dangerous. He is the intense alpha hero and has Nefri in his sights He is determined not to loose her again. Especially since he knows she wants him, too. I also liked that he respects her and doesn’t take her for granted. He realizes what a prize she is and wants them to find a way to be together. Although finding Gaius moved the plot I found the heated dynamic between the two main characters is what really made this book. I also enjoyed reading how another vampire discovers that his mate is a witch! He is not at all pleased and do the sparks fly there. I hope the author writes a book about him soon!
This book was a dark pleasure to be savored. Readers of edgy paranormal romance will devour every page!

Lover Be Mine by Nicole Jordan
Historical Romance – May 28th, 2013
4 stars
Lover Be Mine is the second in the author’s Legendary Lover series which is based on famous lovers throughout history. This story is based on the Romeo and Juliet theme.
Lord Jack Wilde is the ultimate carefree rake. He enjoys his life as it is but his cousin and adopted sister has an idea that everyone in the family should find love and get married. And she thinks she has found the perfect woman for him! The problem is that Jack isn’t interested and the woman they have in mind is Miss Sophie Fortin. Sophie’s family blames the Wilde family for their poor position in society and financial reversals. After being hounded by them Jack finally agrees to meet Sophie at a masked ball. He is instantly attracted and intrigued by her and steals a kiss!
Sophie is resigned to a married of social standing with a Duke. It is her duty to increase the family’s status and finances. Meeting Jack at a masked ball is one of the most exciting and daring things she has experienced in her life. However, while Sophie may like Jack and even be flattered by his attentions she is determined to do her duty.
But Jack finds he can’t get Sophie out of his mind and is willing to kidnap her to make her see reason and discover real love.
This was a fun, sweet romance. Jack seems at first a devil make care rake but he is haunted by his past and resentful towards father that he believes is responsible for his beloved mother’s death. I particularly liked how Jack must confront his father. Jack must face his past if he wants to have a future with Sophie and I loved that he was willing to change and grow. Sophie loves her family and she must discover that she must make her own happiness and live her full potential. Each find love and must make difficult decisions. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure if Jack and Sophie really would make a good couple since their meeting seemed contrived. But as the author developed each of them and I read more about their characters I grew to care for them. And the steamier the book got!
This was a satisfying book that readers who love dashing heroes and great writing will enjoy.

A sweet heroine and two sexy brothers make for scorching romance!
Javier has been demoralized by his awful, dead ex-wife. Now his company is in danger and his life is spiraling out of control. His playboy brother, Xander is concerned. But when Javier visits the Sexy Sirens he spies the delectable London. London is sweet and vunerable. He hires her and she turns his whole life around. London is trying to start a new life after tragedy strikes her. She wants to show others and herself that she can stand on her own two feet and create a life of purpose. She can't believe that these two sexy men want her. But can she handle them both?
Shayla Black writes another super hot romance. Javier and Xander are into BDSM and 'threesomes.' So readers beware! This book covers more than just sex scenes. I liked how the characters change and grow. London is very naive, innocent and self-conscious. She has not been exposed to her sensual side and these two men are more than willing to introduce her to their life style. At first, I wasn't sure why the experienced brothers would be so spellbound by London. But it is her courage and passion for life that attracts them. London's fire for life recharges Javier. After having such a terrible wife, he sees a fresh woman with depth and courage. I liked how Javier changes his life and takes control of his company again. Xander is the ultra sexy hunk that is perfect in and out of bed. He slowly seduces the shy London and will make reader love this steamy book.
If you love hot ménage scenes, sexy brothers and a woman coming into her own, this book will reel you in!

Predatory by Alexandra Ivy, Nina Bangs, Diane Duvall, and Hannah Jayne
Paranormal Romance -May 7th, 2013
4 ½ stars
Predatory is a thrilling, hot-blooded anthology featuring four solid stories but my favorite was by Hannah Jayne!
In Alexandra Ivy's novella, Out of Control, 'freaks' or high-bloods with unusual powers are locked away from normal humans. But a powerful one with deadly powers has escaped. A special sentinel named Niko has been assigned to hunt her down before she kills more humans. But the rogue high blood has plans. She wants a scientist named Angela Locke to manipulate her DNA so she can pass as human but still keep her powers. But Angela doesn't realize that she is also a mutant/freak and as Niko tries to protect Angela passions flare.
This was a solid read. Niko was deadly, sexy and falls immediately for the plucky Angela. Perhaps the best sections that add to the tension were the truly evil villain who really makes this story have a feeling of danger. 4 stars
Ties that Bind by Nina Bangs features and an unsuspecting young woman named Cassie. She is called by her friend to help her cover for her job when she has to leave. But while waiting for Felicity to return Cassie stumbles on more trouble than she can handle. While waiting for her Felicity, two ugly men decide to kill her! Apparently Felicity found out about their `side business' and they want to clean up loose ends. And Cassie is next on their list. For they are capturing vampires and selling them. When Cassie sees the bound vampire Ethan she is appalled. When the two men try to kill her, Evan frees himself and he and Cassie escape. As they try to save the other vampires, Cassie and Ethan find an unexpected attraction.
This was a good read. I really liked Ethan. Cassie was a normal everyday woman caught up in danger. The problem for me was that I couldn't buy that the powerful and really old Ethan could be attracted to her so fast. I didn't see what he saw in her. But the story itself was fun to read. 3 1/2 stars
In Still Darkness by Diane Duvall, Richart is an Immortal Guardian. His current mission is to find a vampire who is independently creating new vampires which are a threat to the population. While saving a beautiful woman from two newbie vampires he rewards himself with a passionate kiss with the damsel in distress named Jenna and takes her to her home. But Jenna doesn't remember their first meeting. While Richart is smitten. Richart visits her work and gets to know her and her young son.
This was an intriguing book because Jenna had surprises even she didn't know about and I also loved reading about Richart's past. They both made a good couple that seemed realistic. 4 stars
High Stakes by Hannah Jayne is the funniest and most entertaining of the four shorts. It is part of the author's Urban Fantasy series, the Underworld Detection Agency. But this short highlights a secondary character, a vampire friend named Nina LaShay. Nina is a fashion designer and finds herself in N.Y. She is competing in a high profile fashion contest. But the problem is that all the contestants keep being murdered! She decides to do some investigating on her own and finds the mysterious and sexy Pike doing the same. But how does Pike fit in? He is an enigma that seem to run hot and cold. As they try to solve the mystery Pike has surprises of his own that are revealed!
Nina was a sassy, smart mouthed and a pretty devious character. This made for amusing reading especially since the object of her affection was also a bit devious, too! They made the perfect pair and I loved the mystery. I really hope the author writes more just about Nina in future books!!! 5 stars

Paranormal Romance -May 7th, 2013
4 stars
Undone is the part of the author's Amoveo series. About a powerful race of shifters with long lives and ancient powers.
The Amoveo are a proud race but they are dying out. Only by mating with humans who have strong extra ordinary powers have they really been able to reproduce. The problem is that they Purists in their race want to keep their lines untainted by humans. And they are vicious. The current leader of the Amoveo is mated to a half human. And his full blooded sister named Marianna Coltari has recently been targeted. The Purist are kidnapping all females of pure Amoveo blood. To protect Marianna her brother has assigned a physic human named Pete Castro to guard her. But the problem is that Marianna resents being taken care of and she also realizes Pete is her mate. As her mate, only he can give her children. But when they mate they also share powers and since Pete is human she will most likely have a human lifespan! But Pete is determined to protect Marianna even as she fights him. He discovers a powder which will strip her of her powers for a while and also protect her from being found. It also makes her human-like and Pete wants payback for all the times Marianna has run away from him!
Pete and Marianna make a strong couple. As first I wondered how a human could match Marianna who is part of the bear clan! But when Pete deviously uses the powder all bets are off and it puts then on a level play fields which Marianna doesn't like at all. But being `just' human slows her down and forces her to live with Pete and love him for who he is. I liked how she is confronted by her lack of powers and lets herself be vulnerable for the first time. Pete can be a bit high handed but he loves Marianna and only wants her safe. And it was a bit sexy to see his alpha side as he focuses and wins Marianna's heart. The mystery behind the missing full blooded females and what happens to them adds to the story especially since Marianna's missing friend turns out pregnant!
A hot alpha hero and strong headed shifter butt heads and find flaming passion!

This sizzling BDSM romance takes it slow, building to a climax!
Maddy Stowe is hiding from life. She lives on the edge as a waitress in a diner in Las Vegas. But that is all about to change when her therapist challenges her to get out and live! She ventures into a Casino and unknowingly meets the owner. An attractive and assured man named Alex Fraser. Alex is captivated by the doe-like fragility in Maddy and introduces himself. But Alex is also a sexual dominant that sees a beautiful submissive in making with Maddy!
But Maddy is living a half life in Vegas for a reason. She is haunted by her past and she isn't sure that Alex's forceful and dynamic presence is something she can handle -even as she finds herself thinking of him constantly! As Alex tries to lure Maddy into an exclusive 'relationship' things only get hotter. But can Maddy build a real relationship when she is still trying to recover from her losses?
This book packs heat. It includes BDSM but isn't over the top. Rather the author relies on building the relationship between the two characters. Instead of immediately having her characters hot and heavy the slow build up gave this book tons of sexual tension. As I kept wondering when Maddy would finally surrender to Alex and how she would be able to hold her own against the strong personality in Alex. This book has substance since Maddy and Alex actually seem to build a relationship as the author slowly and naturally builds their sexual tension and caring for each other. Alex is considerate and protective. And Maddy needs someone who cares and believes in her.

But the strict owner of the Baltimore Blaze team isn't pleased by his irresponsible past. Shane realizes he has to shape up or he will be shipped out! The problem is that the woman who has been assigned to help him with his PR is the utterly gorgeous Carly March. But Carly disapproves of jocks and fame -even if their attraction is off the charts.
But Shane is also running away from his past. A lonely childhood and a dead beat alcoholic father whose spectacular career haunt him. His only oasis is the sweet Carly. But Carly has her reasons for wanting to be out of the spotlight and doesn't fully trust Shane. Can they make it work or will their budding love die under public scrutiny and an unexpected death?
This was a surprisingly deep romance. At first, Shane seems like the typical jock. Uncaring and arrogant. But this story show how Shane transforms himself and takes responsibility. This story is really about Shane. Although Carly plays a significant role she somehow seems more of a supportive character. Carly is sweet and a bit of a doormat. In this book she learns to stands up for herself and take a risk on a man who could give her heartbreak. Sometimes it felt like Carly was too good to be true and because of this I didn't connect to her character as much as Shane's. I did like Carly's family and how all the characters felt very real. Carly also has an unexpected stalker and a traumatic death in the story throw hurdles that they must confront and overcome. The chemistry between them was fast and heated and also added to the story.
An irresponsible jock must prove that he has what it takes in this steamy contemporary romance.

Paranormal Romance -May 7th 2013

Nightbound continues Lynn Viehl's paranormal vampire series, Lords of the Darkyn. As a monkish Darkyn is sent to find magical but dangerous emeralds.
The mysterious and powerful green emeralds are purported to give the owner immortality. But the Darkyn fear they may be dangerous in the wrong hands. As a result, they have funded a project to find them before anyone else. Beaumaris is the vampire that has been chosen as an agent to manage the dig and keep a close eye on the archaeologist Dr. Alys Stuart.
Aly is young, brilliant, and beautiful. Her work is her life. She has never longed for romance or love. However, the sudden appearance of a sexy overseer has her unexpectedly tongue tied. But they are not the only ones looking for the emeralds and a deep and tangled game of secrets and lies will prove deadly.
Readers of this series will enjoy discovering the secrets behind the mysterious emeralds. Finding the emeralds drove this story. I wanted to find out what the emeralds did where they came from! The author skillfully creates a story that seems disconnected and combines them into a thrilling end. My favorite character surprisingly is the enigmatic and too good to be true Mr. Leeds. He is an impeccable human with astonishing skills. And a man who knows more than he appears to.... I wish the author had expanded on this fascinating character. On the other hand, the hero, still seems a puzzle. I was intrigued by the snippets of Beaumaris's past but by the end of the book I did not feel as polarized by his character as Mr. Leeds. Alys is a `young' character. As a human in her twenties her past is very underdeveloped compared to the rich history of the rest of the characters. For her meeting Beau is startling and new. I liked how she was still able to challenge Beau and used her intelligence to solve the mystery of the emeralds.
A skillful mystery, an incomparable human, and darkly sexy vampires make this a exciting read.

This story that loyal readers will love. Cruen is a truly evil villain but his secrets have always been shrouded in mystery. This story delves into how he gets his powers and created other powerful vampire such as Erion. I also enjoyed the two main characters. Erion is totally driven and intense. He has never known real love and to discover he has a young and defenseless child drives him harder. But he unwillingly finds himself attracted to the sexy Hellen. Hellen is unlike any woman he has ever known. She also has secrets and powers that fascinate and open his hardened heart. Hellen has never known a man who drives her libido or her heart more. She is used to being the strong one and having someone who wants to help her is strange and unreal. Although she wants to depend on him she is afraid of being vunerable. Not only are the passion between the two characters spellbinding but their quest to fight against the marriage set for Hellen and find Erion's son will immediately draw the reader.
The sparks between these two passionate and determined characters makes for riveting reading and unparalleled excitement.

One that feels that they are above humans called the Olympians and the other that wants to live peacefully with humans. In the last book, the leader of the Olympians, Konstantin, went into hiding and his conniving and slimy son took his place. Nikki lives with the other group led by Anderson. Anderson is a mysterious God who wants revenge against Konstantin in revenge for torturing his wife. And he and wants Nikki to hunt Konstantin down. Although the Olympians cannot kill her family they can destroy what they own. The massive destruction angers Nikki she finds herself trying to find the deposed leader despite warnings from his son to keep away from his father and his promises that her someone else is causing the damage. As Nikki tries to figure out the truth she discovers herself in a devious plot that may end her life!
This series keeps getting better as Nikki must discover who is trying to intimidate her and why. The plot twists and turns. While the reader has clues as to the mastermind, the reasons are not so clear cut. The devious and manipulative villain is one that readers will love to hate! I particularly liked that Nikki’s fellow companions are further revealed in this book. Nikki has never really befriended them and learning about their skills and their personalities as they begin to work with her and warm up to her makes for fascinating reading. In addition, there is also the drama between Nikki and an unstable colleague plus the possibility that their leader Anderson may have ‘feelings’ for Nikki which heat up the story. The ending was unexpected as the villain gets the last laugh. Although a tease the story itself was resolved. But I wonder how that will play out in the next book!

Wicked As She Wants by Delilah Dawson
Paranormal Romance -April 30th, 3013
4 stars
Unexpectedly mesmerizing, I could not stop reading this book. This original steampunk book is mix of the fantastical, historical (based on the Russian Czar and his assassinated family) and edgy paranormal.
Princess Ahnastasia finds herself thirsting for blood. She has been trapped in a suitcase for who knows how long and she needs to feed. She smells her unsuspecting victim but due to her weakened state he easily overpowers her….
Casper made a mistake and he is paying for it. Now his once successful musical career has been ruined and he is bound by physical changes that he can barely keep under control. When he finds the lost princess of Freesia he feels pity for her but also an unexpected need to help her regain the throne of Freesia from an evil sorceress. On this difficult journey through the cold and merciless streets to England to the unforgiving and harsh lands of Freesia both characters find surprising affection and inner strength.
This unique book captured my imagination. Ahnastasia is a bit of a spoiled brat. She feels as a high bred ‘vampire’ that everyone’s purpose is to serve her. She does not see humans as anything but servants or food. She must learn humility and respect for humans while struggling to journey towards her home. At first, I didn’t like the haughty princess but I found her totally fascinating. She knows her purpose and her cold-blooded resolve to free her people. I really enjoyed how she transforms and sees others beside herself and her aspirations. And even cares for a troublesome, little human brat! The hero, Casper, has secrets of his own. Secrets that sympathize with Ahnastasia and make him very compassionate towards her even when she is at her arrogant best. Their relationship gradually builds from grudging practicality to respect and finally love. If you are looking for a completely fresh, stand out read you won’t regret trying this book.
Original and surprising, this book is a must read.

Dark Wolf by Kate Douglas
Paranormal Romance –April 30th, 2013
4 stars
Dark Wolf is a new series based on the characters in her Wolf Tales series. As with her prior books this book pushes the envelope with ménage, F/F, and M/M scenes.
In this book, Lily Cheval is a Chanku shifter with a long life. A natural leader, she is the CEO of her father’s company, Cheval International. But her life and the lives of other Chanku are severely disrupted with a series of terrible murders that point to the Chanku. Extremely worried, she trusts her kind but is also concerned about the public backlash to her kind. Lily suspects the evil Aldo Xenakis a power hunger man with dark magic. When she meets his son Sebastian, she can’t believe her unparalleled attraction to the man. He represents everything that she vilifies.
But Sebastian is the illegitimate son of Aldo and his own man. He wants to learn about his father and is unerringly attracted to Lily. His mother warned him about his dangerous father but Sebastian’s curiously only got the better of him. As a result, Sebastian treads carefully around Aldo and is suspicious of his father’s reason for pushing him towards Lily -even as he finds he can’t stay away. But the murders cause difficulties between them as Lily becomes suspicious of Sebastian, especially since he can’t always control his magic. Could he be responsible for the deaths, not his father?
Those who enjoy Kate Douglas’s books will find this a light and sensual read. This is certainly not a vanilla read and those who prefer conventionally romances may not enjoy this book. The main characters are easy to like and the murders did bring tension to the story. Aldo is truly an evil character and he is probably the most fascinating of the characters. He is manipulative, amoral but very charismatic. The reader knows he is the ‘devil’ and wonders how he is connected to the murders. However, my favorite sections of the book include the sweet, secondary romance between two Chanku lovers.
This is a racy summer read that has a little bit of something for everyone

Paranormal Romance –April 2nd, 2013
4 ½ stars
Allegiance Sworn is the third in the author’s Light Blade fantasy series. In this book, a tough female warrior must show a hot-headed soldier the true meaning of compassion and light.
Arek Barial is a Light Warrior. A human with magical skills who lives to slay the demons that hunt down his kind and drain them of blood. Unfortunately, Arek has been caught and is being transported to be sold as a slave to the merciless demons. But not all of those with demons blood are evil. And Arek is lucky to be taken in by an unusual Na’Reish leader named Imhara Kaal. Imhara is the only female leader and she secretly buys humans not to enslave them but to save them! In her land, humans and demons live in harmony. However, her freedom and leadership may be cut short when her leader orders her to marry a demon of his choosing. But Imhara plays a dangerous game for she will use her upcoming marriage to get closer to the leader and man responsible for her father’s death. Imhara lives for revenge. But Imhara also knows without her leadership her clan will be exposed. Humans and those of mixed blood will loose their freedom, too. So she hopes to befriend Arek and reach an alliance with humans. But Arek does not believe her -even as she tempts him with her promises and her beauty.
This is one fascinating world. The author really explores prejudice and how destructive both humans and demons are to the well being of both their kinds. While demons do need the help of human blood they do not need to bleed them dry. But many demons disrespect human lives, killing them with their blood craving. And most do not want to live in harmony with humans like Imhara. In addition, most humans want nothing to do with demons even if they could be their salvation. This book brings hope, especially since Arek is well grounded in his hatred for demons and actually changes his attitude and beings to care for one! But it seems there will be another book that will delve further into the uneasy demon and human alliance. I liked the resourceful and self-sacrificing Imhara. I really admired her courage, compassion and determination. Her nobility of character carried this book and I wish there was another book just on her climb to leadership of her clan.
Anyone who love fantasy, passion and a well thought out story will love this amazing fantasy.

Paranormal Romance -April 2nd, 2013
4 ½ stars
Assassin Gambit is unlike any romance I've read. The hero and the heroine are completely original and utterly fascinating. Those who love Game of Thrones will enjoy this new series.
Vitala Salonius is the first female winner of the game Caturanga. A strategy game that is a favorite hobby of the current King. But Vitala is an assassin in disguise. Taken from her Riorcan family because she looks like a Kjallan, she was raised with the sole purpose of undermining the current Kjallan regimen and freeing her Riorcan people from their oppression. Because she is half Kjallan and half Riorcan she has felt prejudice of her Kajallan half by Riorcans who have been subjugated by Kajallans. The Kjallan emperor has used her Riorcan people as slaves and levied heavy taxes on them. As part of the secret Riorcan Obsidian Circle, Vitala works to undermine the current King, Lucien. Because she can pass as a Kjallan. She uses her status as winner of the Caturanga competition to befriend the emperor Lucien and assassinate him. Since the emperor loves the game she is invited to meet him. But Vitala grows to respect and even like the emperor as she gets to know him. When one of his staff tries to assassinate him Vitala finds herself saving his life instead of ending it! On the run the emperor and Vitala reconcile their growing love and political differences while bringing new hope. But the man responsible for trying to assassinate Lucien has taken Lucien's younger sister as his wife. How will they save his sister and find a way to take back control while also finding a to give Riorcans more freedom?
This was a complex and totally immersing fantasy. Neither of the two main characters are perfect and because of this they are exactly perfect together! Both have struggled and been ostracized. Vital because of her heritage and Lucien because of his lost leg. Lucien is also perceived as being weak because he is not as bloodthirsty as his older brothers. Vitala is certainly the more `damaged' of the two. She feels her only purpose is to kill for Riorcan freedom and her feelings and the physical abuse she have endured in her training are sometimes difficult to read. I liked how she finally comes to see her own worth. She is more than a tool and I was impressed by her intelligence. Both have good reasons to have prejudices against each other and despite this they come to love each other. I felt this story was a little like Romeo and Juliet especially since Vitala's job has psychological side effects which she must come to terms with.
Savvy smart and imaginative. This book has action, intrigue and two lovers who desperately need each other. Simply amazing!

Rising Darkness by Thea Harrison
Paranormal Romance -April 2nd, 2013
3 1/2 stars
Rising Darkness is a new series with a much darker tone than her Elder Race series. This story almost seems mystical as two beings finally find love again after having suffered greatly. This story has an epic feel -good versus evil tale as two opposing forces. There is much sacrifice.
Mary and Michael are two lost souls with powers that can help defeat the evil Deceiver. But Mary has no idea of her past and Michael cannot find her. When Mary is being hunted by strange voices she thinks she may be going mad and calls for help. A physic call that broadcasts her position to both Michael and the Deceiver. Michael runs to rescue her since her powers are fractured. But Michael becomes injured and Mary's splintered power is a beacon for hunters who want her. Can they save themselves before it is too late or will the Deceiver find Mary again?
The one word that comes to my mind after reading this book is mystical. Forces from long ago came to Earth to try to defeat the Deceiver. But when they came to earth they did not remember their past and were limited by their human life span.
This book has a feeling of other worldliness that makes it sometimes hard to get invested in. The best part about this book is the real love that Mary and Michael have for each other. Even when they first meet after eons of separation the reader can feel the depth of emotion that flows between them and the unexplained yearning they haveto be together. Mary fights their attraction at first (since she does not recall their past). When they both surrender to their love it is beautiful to read. After centuries of not having anyone to finally find their beloved is heady, passionate and touching stuff! The Deceiver is a villain that is evil but is more of a background character. Since Michael and Mary are still learning about themselves there is also a feeling of a lot being left unsaid. I think the author wants to keep secrets for the next installment but this made the plot feel somewhat unresolved. So while I definitely got into the book on the emotional, romance level. The story was more lack luster. But I am sure the next book in the Game of Shadows will add more depth.
The author has a lot up her sleeve as the next book in the series will shed light on many questions as winner takes all in this dramatic storyline.

However, trouble lurks as Darius’s past lovers want back and will sink to blackmail and trickery. In addition, Vivian’s salacious stepfather will do anything to get Vivian for himself. Will they be exposed?
Grace Burrowes’s storytelling only gets more refined and engaging as the sweet romance between Vivian and Darius comes to fruition. Neither has known the softer intimacy of love and I enjoyed reading them explore each other before finally succumbing to their passion. I could feel the pull they had for each other and their tentative and new feelings as they discover the wonder of new love. The anguish they feel when they are torn apart, since the real parentage of her child could be revealed was very Romeo and Juliet. Vivian also feels guilt because she also feels disloyal since she is still married to Lord Longstreet. However, she can’t help wanting Darius. After their affair, he sees how tawdry his life has been and seeks to find a way to regain his self worth.
Wonderful book about romantic new love and redemption.

Fever by Maya Banks
Contemporary Romance –April 2nd, 2013
4 stars
Fever marks the second in the author’s extra steamy Breathless trilogy. As three buddies with big ‘appetites’ find love.
In this book the powerful and wealthy Jace Crestwell finds unexpected obsession, passion and love with an unlikely and atypical heroine. At his sister’s wedding Jace spies a beautiful and almost fragile woman named Bethany who is working at the service. He and his best friend Ash want her for the night. This isn’t unusual since Jace and Ash have often shared women. But what is unusual is that Jace finds one night isn’t enough and he doesn’t want to share her with Ash again! But when he wakes up he finds Bethany gone with just a note of thanks. Frustrated he tries to find Bethany but is shocked to discover that Bethany is actually homeless. He asks the homeless shelter to call him if she shows up again.
Bethany found extreme pleasure with Ash and Jace but real life isn’t all pleasure. Much later she finds herself bruised and beaten because her best friend, Jack owed money and the men took it from her instead! That night her only life line is to find shelter for the night. But when she get there she is soon surprised to find Jace whisking her away like a white knight to rescue her! But their differences cause conflict particularly with Jace’s best friend Ash. Ash sees Bethany as a bad influence on Jace. Plus Bethany doesn’t want to owe Jace. But Jace is a master at getting what he wants!
Those who love scorching hot romance with will devour this book. The scenes between Jace and Bethany will not disappoint Maya Banks readers. Jace is very dominant. He is merciless in the bedroom and out. He is sometimes likes rough sex and is crazy protective of Bethany. But Bethany’s best friend Jack causes heartache since he is missed up in drugs and Jace want Bethany wants to give Jack up. When Jack visits her Jace explodes especially when he finds Jack left drugs with her. But Bethany refuses to see Jack isn’t good and she won’t choose between him and Jace. Jace’s good friend Ash is worried about Bethany’s background and puts a strain on their relationship and their business. While this book is very steamy, I felt that Jace often dominates the story and Bethany. Her personality is often over shadowed by Jace’s at times. She is damsel in distress but especially in the beginning I didn’t see the connection between them because of the imbalance of ‘power’ in their realtionship.
Edgy BDSM romance with a dominate hero who saves the sweet heroine. Good fantasy with a dominate lover and lots of steamy sex.

Lush by Lauren Dane
Contemporary Romance – April 2nd, 2013
4 stars
Lush is the third in the Delicious series by Lauren Dane. It also loosely features characters from her Brown siblings’ series who are rock stars.
Mary Whaley has a successful catering company. She is loving her life and everything is going well. While overseeing her friend Gillian’s wedding she meets the super hot friend of the groom. Damien Hurley is a famous drummer and a known love’em and leave’em playboy and party animal. But no one has attracted him more than Mary. Soon then are all over each other. And while Mary has always been the goody two shoes type she doesn’t want anything deeper than a fling. The surprise is that Damien wants more! Convincing Mary of his true intentions is a hard sell especially due to his checkered past. It also doesn’t help that groupies are always all over him. Will Mary take the chance on Damien?
This is one fun read. I particularly liked the references to food which made me pretty hungry. I also enjoyed the feeling of family and camaraderie between Mary’s friends and the Brown family. The romance between Damien and Mary is extremely hot, readers will find their scenes will not be disappointed and may find themselves a bit hot under the collar! Mary has a lot of spunk and self confidence and I liked how she gives Damien a run for his money! One of the best things is that their relationship is slow and realistic. I also enjoyed that this book doesn’t throw in obligatory tragedy or a stalker but focuses on the building relationship between the main characters. Although I did love all the friends and family in the story it could be slightly confusing with all the extra characters if readers are not familiar with her other books. As they get more serious and Mary realizes this could be something beautiful she gets scared. Damien popularity makes her feel a little insecure and being with him is not all what she had planned for her life. His fame will affect her life and test her love.
Heartwarming and scorching romance makes this is a sure fire hit!

Bite Me, Your Grace by Brooklyn Ann
Historical Romance- April 2nd, 2013
3 1/2 stars
This lighthearted and fluffy historical romance will be sure to entertain readers.
Angelica Winthrop is beautiful and headstrong. She believes in female equality and does not want a marriage to a pompous lord that her mother is foisting upon her. But she finds herself fascinated by Ian Ashton. He and his mysterious estate captivate her. As Angelica investigates his estate she is discovered and bitten by him! With rumors of vampire being real being gossiped throughout society, she finds herself in a real life mystery and delighted when Ian bites her. As they start to fall for each other the mischief of another vampire complicates matters as well as vampire hunters who may cause everyone irrevocable harm.
Angelica is a very naïve and impetuous handful. As a result it took me a while to warm up to her character because I didn’t take her as seriously. As the book progressed Angelica’s character development made her more interesting and I could understand why Ian fell in love with her. Ian is a strong character and Angelica didn’t seem quite a match for him. I actually found another storyline featuring a rogue vampire who falls in love with a human and tries to protect him from the powerful Ian more interesting. Overall, this was a highly entertaining romance that was fun to read.

Wrecked by Shiloh Walker
Contemporary Romance -April 2nd, 2013

This gentle, sweet contemporary romance will put a smile face and in your heart.
Zach and Abigale have always been friends. They worked together as popular child stars. But Abigale never liked that life and she left. But her famous past haunts her. Even her recent ex wants her to return to Hollywood and become a star again. The only one who understands her is her best friend Zach. Frustrated with life Abigale decides to live life differently and that begins with finding a hot fling! When Zach hears about this he volunteers. Because Zach has always loved Abigale and this might finally be his chance... But the problem is convincing Abigale for the long term.
Although Shiloh Walker is known for her sexy and edgy romances this book proves she can also write a deep heartfelt one, too! Zach has always loved Abigale and it shows with his every action. Although he is a beta hero he also he is no doormat and has his alpha moments, too. I liked Abigale but have to admit I did get frustrated with her slow realization that Zach is the one for her. Their moments together feel very real and genuine and I really wanted Zach to be happy. The best sections about this book are the moments of caring between them and the everyday things. There is not real big drama although one does sort of appear that wakes Abigale up. Most of the time the reader can appreciate how much these two people are meant for each other.
